Fighting GOP establishment, Ron Paul backers seek support from Idaho lawmakers

Bonner County Commissioner Cornel Rasor is leading the effort to line up endorsements from GOP legislators in advance of Idaho's first-ever Republican presidential
caucus on March 6.

So far, four lawmakers are in the Paul camp: Sen. Shirley McKague, R-Meridian, Rep. Pete Nielsen, R-Mountain Home, Rep. Phil Hart, R-Athol, and Rep. Vito Barbieri, R-Dalton Gardens.

That quartet is featured in a
four-page e-flier from Rasor dated Monday, along with Coeur d'Alene City Councilman Steve Adams. Many Paul supporters hold precinct committee posts that give him substantial influence on the Idaho Republican Central Committee.

Still, most of Idaho's Republican establishment is supporting former Gov. Mitt Romney, including: Gov. Butch Otter, U.S. Sen. Jim Risch, U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson, Lt. Gov. Brad Little, Secretary of State Ben Ysursa, Superintendent of Public Schools Tom Luna, State Controller Donna Jones, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, Senate Pro Tem Brent Hill, R-Rexburg, House Speaker Lawerence Denney, R-Midvale, Senate Majority Leader Bart Davis, R-Idaho Falls, Assistant Senate Majority Leader Chuck Winder, R-Boise, Assistant House Majority Leader Scott Bedke, R-Oakley, and House Majority Caucus Chairman Ken Roberts, R-Donnelly.

But Rasor is urging legislators "to take a closer look at Ron Paul and why he is the only choice that makes sense."

Among Paul's attributes cited by Rasor:

# He has the "most conservative voting record of any member of Congress since 1937."

# "He has received more military donations than ALL other presidential candidates COMBINED!"

# As a physician, Dr. Paul "routinely lowered fees or worked for free and refused to accept Medicaid or Medicare payments. He continued to deliver babies on Mondays and Saturdays" while in Congress.

# In 24 years in Congress, Paul has never voted to raised taxes, for an unbalanced budget, to restrict gun ownership, raise congressional pay, increase presidential power, to regulate the Internet, or for the Iraq War.

Paul also proposed cutting presidential pay from $400,000 a year to $39,336, to mirror the "median personal income of the American worker."

"He is certainly the only candidate that will offer substantial government reform," writes Rasor.

Oh you mean the Europeans

who provide health care for all their citizens, who have essentially been at peace since WWII, that provides affordable education, has higher standards of living and more time off for workers, better retirement benefits and less crime that we? That Europe?

You mean the peaceful NATO from Europe....the same Europe that now is about to collapse financially and needs the USA to bail-out talking that europe?

Crackpots & Racists

The more one studies the philosophies of Ron Paul and his loyal followers, to more disturbing they become. "You are known by the company you keep" is a wise adage, and Ron Paul's association with White Supremacists, States Rightists, and other radicals makes him a very dangerous choice for America. Fortunately, his base is very noisy but very small.

We haven't really leaned towards Ron Paul thus far, but, after hearing your opinion, that may change! There may be hope yet!

I quit reading when I got to

I quit reading when I got to Phil Hart. Need I say more?

And McKague too. Her motto is 'I don't know what it is, but

whatever it is I'm agin it'. (She easily channels Grumpy from the 7 dwarves)
