The State Board of Education on Thursday approved several tweaks to Boise State football coach Chris Petersen’s contract.
The vote was 6-0 with two board members absent.
Petersen’s automatic one-year extensions for every season in which the Broncos win eight games now will include a $100,000 raise, double the previous contracted amount.
His bonus for a Bowl Championship Series berth (now $150,000) or a conference championship (now $100,000) has been increased by $25,000.
Petersen’s total compensation, including longevity bonuses and supplemental retirement contributions, will be $1.525 million this year. That amount increases by $100,000 every subsequent year, to $1.925 million in 2015. With two more wins, he will be guaranteed $2.025 million in 2016.
The first year in which Thursday’s action increases Petersen’s salary is 2015, the year added to his contract when the Broncos won eight games last year.
Petersen’s buyout is $650,000.
The State Board also reviewed some technical changes to the contract.
Boise State has released 200 tickets for Saturday's game against Air Force. They're available at idahotickets.com.
We're giving away a pair of tickets to the Boise State-Air Force game. To enter, follow me on Twitter (@IDS_BroncoBeat). If you already follow me, send me a tweet. The deadline is noon MT Friday. We'll pick one winner.
Four F-15Es from Mountain Home Air Force Base will provide the flyover at the game.
A stat correction has changed the Broncos’ tackles chart. Junior linebacker J.C. Percy is now tied with cornerback Jamar Taylor for the lead with 24 tackles.
Last week, I asked Percy about Taylor and cornerback Quaylon Ewing-Burton leading the team in tackles.
“They’ve been playing well,” he said. “That’s good for them. But we’re going to catch up to them.”
He didn’t waste any time getting there.
Boise State left tackle Nate Potter made another midseason All-America team — this one from SI.com. He’s on the first team. Defensive tackle Billy Winn made the second team.
The way it’s looking, Potter could be a consensus All-American at season’s end.
