The Boise State defense and special teams dominated Nevada on Saturday at Bronco Stadium as the No. 4 Broncos cruised to a 30-10 victory.
Nevada, which had gained 500-plus yards against Oregon and Texas Tech, finished with 182 yards of offense — its worst output since a 2006 game against Boise State. Nevada’s total includes a 71-yard touchdown drive on the final possession.
The difference in field position was dramatic — the Broncos started, on average, at their own 40-yard line; the Wolf Pack started at their own 19. Only three of the Pack’s 15 drives started outside their own 20.
The Broncos recorded 12 tackles for loss, including 5.5 by the defensive line. End Shea McClellin finished with six tackles and one sack.
“The defense played tremendous. The special teams made plays. They really took care of business,” quarterback Kellen Moore said.
Offensively, tailback Doug Martin’s 126 rushing yards and two touchdowns made up for an ugly passing performance. Moore and his receivers were off throughout — with some bad passes and worse drops. Moore was 19-of-33 for 142 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions. He missed several wide-open touchdown passes and Mitch Burroughs dropped what would have been a 51-yard touchdown.
•••
Moore’s performance was, statistically, the worst of his career. His efficiency rating was 101.60, a career worst. His yardage also was a career low. He threw two interceptions in a game for the third time — he threw three in 2008 at Nevada and two in 2010 vs. Hawaii.
“It certainly didn’t feel like we were executing the way we want to,” Moore said. “We’ve just got to learn from it and move on.”
•••
A couple notable quotes:
LB J.C. Percy: “It wasn’t necessarily what we did today. It was more what we did last week in practice. The coaches were on us about details and being as perfect as we can in practice. It showed up today.”
Percy, on the Broncos practicing halftime every day in practice during the week: “That helped us a lot. Coach Pete, he showed us a slide Tuesday of how they’d been whupping our butts in the second half.”
Coach Chris Petersen: “Really proud of how hard really everybody played. Extremely happy with how good our defense played, to hold these guys to three points late in the fourth quarter. I don’t think anybody thought that would happen.”
Petersen on the pass game: “I don’t know. I really don’t know. I think some credit maybe goes to some of their defenders. … Fortunately our run game came to life a little bit.”
Petersen said he can’t remember Moore making so many bad throws: “It’s amazing that he hasn’t made more throws like that over his career. It’s always kind of surprising when something like that does happen because he’s such a good decision-maker. The turnovers are the ones that you really want to analyze.”
Petersen on the penalties: “Very frustrated with the penalties on our side. … There was some dumb, dumb play out there today, some foolish penalties that we will get fixed.”
•••
The injury update:
— Boise State senior cornerback Jerrell Gavins likely will miss the rest of the season and sophomore right guard Jake Broyles will miss the rest of the season, coach Chris Petersen said Saturday.
Gavins, who leads the team with three interceptions, sustained a serious knee injury during practice last week. It’s not a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Gavins can redshirt and return next year because he hasn’t redshirted in the past and has only played three games. If he had played one more game, he wouldn’t be able to redshirt.
“It’s a pretty extensive injury,” Petersen said. “(Redshirting) is what the plan looks like.”
Sophomore Quaylon Ewing-Burton replaced Gavins in the starting lineup. Sophomore Ebo Makinde, who was banged up and didn’t play, will compete for that job.
Broyles, meanwhile, has a toe injury that will sideline him for the rest of the year. He was replaced by senior Chuck Hayes. Broyles was injured in the Tulsa game.
— Senior center Thomas Byrd remains week to week. Sophomore backup Matt Paradis didn’t play but is making progress from his injury, Petersen said. Senior Cory Yriarte started for the first time since 2008. He didn’t play the past two seasons because of back-to-back torn ACLs.
“It really shows how hard-working the guy is, how dedicated he is,” quarterback Kellen Moore said. “He’s a positive guy. He was able to get through all those tough times he went through and now he’s getting the opportunity to play.”
— Wide receiver and punt returner Chris Potter missed the game but he isn’t expected to be out long.
— Fullback Dan Paul (groin) still hasn’t played this season. He does have a redshirt year available and Petersen wouldn’t rule out going that route.
— Defensive linemen Chase Baker and Tyler Horn returned to action after missing the Tulsa game.

Why bother putting him and weisberg down? They're posts may be one of the few things they have to look forward to.
We've all met negative people before. They spend all their energy and efforts saying negative things. They
attempt to spread negativity to all those around them. And if there isn't anybody around them, they turn to the internet, alone. Typing away. How sad.
ACL's
I would like to see the statistics on the number of torn ACL's (and repeat tears) for BSU as compared to the ramainder of the NCAA football programs.
It sure seems to me that there are an inordinate number of ACL tears. It makes you wonder about their training, surgical repairs, and rehab!
Heck, I read that DJ Harper even went out of state to have his last ACL repair.
You said basically the same thing last year.
Your wussy wolfpack just got beat by the Broncos who, imho, played lousy. But if you'd like to see those stats on torn acl's, do some research. Doctors (of which you claim to be) have the ability and intelligence to find this out. Bedpan nurses don't. If you don't report back, we'll all know your true medical vocation...Sunny...
First of all, I don't know
First of all, I don't know why you think that I am a wolfpack fan. I have no ties to them nor am I a fan of Nevada at all.
Secondly, the ISS/NCAA does track injuries of collegiate athletes, however, it is not exactly easy to attain this information and disseminate it into all of the categories that you would need for comparison. Also noteworthy, is the fact that most of these statistics would take time to be gathered and ultimately released to the public (or an entity requesting them for research purposes). By the time research is published the statistics are typically a couple of years old already.
Furthermore, I don't think that the head trainer/surgeon/AD would freely offer their specific injury statistics upon a random request. On top of this, some of the players have their surgeries performed elsewhere, in which case, you would have issues with HIPPA and need player's release of medical records.
So, to answer your question, it is not exactly easy to get the pertinent information such as the number of ACL tears, type of training, types of ACL grafts/repairs performed, numbers of graft failures etc. for BSU in 2010!
You are correct, however, in saying that the statistics could be gathered. If one had the time and resources available (research team/grants/funding) then anything is possible.
Boise State is going to fall
Boise State is going to fall so hard in the ranking. How can you guys even think you are a top 20 teams after the teams you play. The should be playing in the big sky. Shame on you Boise
Nothing original from lamesched
Yaaaawn.
Officiating was as sloppy as the play...
But for both teams. There was a flag somewhere on the field all day long...
Good things:
Doug ran hard
Defense was stout all day long
JC Nickel transfer Dex Simmons played fast
QEB was solid in his first start
Some really good grabs on the sideline by Wrs
A made FG
Great field position all day/bad fp for Pack all day
The Bad:
O Line and tight ends cannot sustain blocks (still.. and now in week 4)
Dropped balls
Wrong routes
Bad Jump ball by Kellen
Personal foul penalties (a few were questionable)
Sloppy personal groupings
UNR is terrible and should of been 55-3
And for tomato2, horrid play calling.
And for tfunk, still way unsold on Joe Southwick. Another bad pick (negated by 2 penalties)
officals
Chadd, Where were the officals from. ??? Lots of sour calls from them against us.
Officials
They were assigned by the Mountain West.
If it hadn't been for
Doug on offense and Shea on defense, we'd have been in a world of hurt. Worst game we've played in quite sometime. Very disappointing...Sunny...
Bronco's bungle a bit
When the kicking tee retriever headed for his kennel instead of the Boise State sidelines...Bronco Nation should have known it was in for a weird afternoon. I for one do not like the 12:30 starts, but that is a minor deal. The offense seems to be getting worse not better...injuries must be starting to change the complexion of the offensive execution. Even the coaches seemed confused the 3rd quarter...play calling was erratic and you could tell Kellen was frustrated by the indecision going on. Oh yeah the new scoreboard still SUCKS!
Wow...Bronco fans gotta be worried...
...30-10 at home against Nevada...Moore 19 completions for 142 yards and 2 picks...Two starters lost to season ending injuries...
I mean, yes, still undefeated, but hardly inspiring when you consider what Boise must do just to maintain the top 5 ranking and stay in the hunt for a BCS bowl...this being the last season they will contend for such a bowl, what with Moore and all those seniors gone after this season...
I'm wondering about the UCLA job and coach pete's long standing and well known desire to coach in the PAC12...hmmm, food for thought...
Don't mean to compare, but Oregon was up 41-7 at half against this same Nevada team...
Anyhoo, a win is a win right Broncos!! Bring on Fresno and Air Force...
bcluck
Offensive play was spotty for sure, but again, 30 points.....
Wouldn't LSU drop as well after their win today?
The last place Pete would ever go is LA
Oregon gave up 500+ yards to Nevada..... food for thought.
B43S42U
Not taking anything away from the win...LSU won't drop, why would they, they have beaten 3 ranked teams and todays win was over an SEC foe
Didn't know you were in Pete's inner circle...obviously you are not...it is well known that Pete would love to coach in the PAC12, his dream job is Oregon, but as that job won't be vacant for a decade or two, any other destination in the PAC would do...
Sure Oregon gave up 500+ yards...garbage yards...unlike todays game, they were never in the Oregon game...
9 senior starters lost on D plus Moore, Shu, martin and more on O spells trouble...Pete's a lookin...watch your team, your coach, how they play and respond, his body language, how he replies to questions...learn grasshopper!!!!
bcluck
LSU played a similar game today vs. Kentucky...if you think BSU will fall because of their play today, why wouldn't LSU also drop?
Not exactly in his inner circle, but closer than you, it's MORE than common knowledge LA is NOT in his plan for his family.
"Garbage yards"? take a look again.
bcluck, you have never been correct on any of your thoughts on BSU. You are clueless when it comes to BSU. You're better off sticking with Oregon because they will probably looking for a coach when the NCAA is done with them....
Wow, B43S42U...did you stop drinking coffee...
...or is Boise's sloppy and inconsistent play and imminent decline getting under your skin??
FYI, I didn't suggest at all that Boise would drop in the rankings after todays game...that was one of my peers on this blog making an intelligent observation.
What should I look at again regarding Oregons 69-20 (41-7 at halftime) win?? 500 yards mean nothing when you're behind by 35.
As far as Pete goes, I do not claim to have any personal knowledge, I just read the paper and listen to his interviews and watch his conduct and then compare it to past seasons...
Boise is still in good shape...they just need to take it up a notch, well, two or three notches...and by the way, dont look now, but one loss Oregon is creeping back into the picture...a one loss (LSU) Oregon is a sure thing over an undefeated Boise every time...
We'll just wait though and see how things play out...food for thought...
Position in the polls
Big Frog Small Pond. Poor play against high rated competition keeps you from dropping as much as poor play against low level competition.
It appears that my prediction is bearing fruit...
...What was it again...Oh yeah, that no non AQ team could join a BCS conference and waltz through it undefeated or be ranked high enough to go to a BCS bowl...
Utah, 8-0 last Nov 1st, in it's inagural BCS conference season, is 2-2 overall, both losses coming to conference foes USC and Washington and with no relief in sight as they play 8 games in 8 weeks against BCS teams...
Going to war week in and week out appears to have taken its toll. What was once a respectable goal of .500 no seems out of the question, although they do play in the weaker of the two divisions and escape games against Oregon and Stanford, its difficult to imaging Utah winning 3 more conference games.
Any thoughts or observations out there??
Here's One...
If your post was intended to include BSU in that unproveable assumption at this time (Oh yeah, that no non AQ team could join a BCS conference and waltz through it undefeated or be ranked high enough to go to a BCS bowl...) then your comparison with recent examples Utah/Colo do not hold any water. BSU is 4-0 vs Utah and 2-0 vs BYU...and they weren't really close..and that includes wins over Utah Teams that were better then than the product on the field this season, exception of course the Utah Team that dissected Alabama a few years ago...
Just a couple "factoids" there...
You're missing my point...
...its not what anyone has done in the past...its what has always been my point, that no non aq team could join a BCS conference and have the success they had as a non aq and Utah is proving my point as each week goes by.
It matters not what Boise's record has been in the past against Utah or BYU, they were both non aq's and BYU still is. By the way, Colorado doesn't figure into the discussion as they have always been a BCS conference member.
The only point I have...the only one I have ever had, is that the rigors of a BCS conference take its toll on non aq's who are not used to playing the high level of competition week in and week out...Look at Utah's schedule from last season...
UNLV, New Mex, San Jose St, Wyoming and Colo St are replaced with USC, Wash, Az St, Cal and UCLA...Last season Utah was 8-0 on Nov 1st, this season 0-2 after 2 conference games...
No reason under the sun to think Boise wouldn't experience the same results...Georgia and 11 non aq's are just not the same as 9 PAC12 foes. Because Boise has had some success against BCS teams at the rate of one per season in no way compares to what Utah is up against this season...that has been my point and it is being proven with each game that goes by...
Do you not agree somewhat?? I know Boise fans, like any fans are loyal to their team, but do you not at least see what I am saying and admit that until Boise faces a schedule like Utah's any other BCS conference team, they will always been seen they way they are seen now...a capable team of quality players and coaches who have not been tested at the same level as BCS conferences teams have...don't you want that...don't you want your team to really prove they belong, instead of the one and done, the one game and then 11 non aq's...
The Difference is BSU's
depth. Have you not noticed BSU is still cruising and has played 10 (now 11) offensive linemen? 9 in the WR position? 7 in the Dline slot? 7 at LB? 7 in the Secondary? Up until last year I would have bveen inclined to give your point more credit re BSU. The counts were very similar in the UGA game. UGA may not get physically handled again this year like BSU handled them. Many (including you) want to say the "ride" is over after this season. Look at their underclassmen and recruits...stronger than ever.
Why do you insist on harping on BSU and how they would do in an AQ conference? It's assumptive. You use Utah as an example and the fact is we dont know and will not know anytome soon re BSU. It's stale, moot, and very subjective. Neither one of us can win this arguement.-
if that is the only ponit you have.....
Then we all look forward to not seeing anything posted by you.
How does the grind of a BCS schedule come into play when we're 4 games into the schedule? And one of those was against a 1AA school (weak in and weak out, typical).
I AGREE....
That the PAC 12 has better teams top to bottom than non-BCS leagues but to assume no non-BCS team (like Boise State) could win the PAC 12 is both arrogant and inflammatory (which of course is probably your desire). Boise State has proven over the last 10 years generally and especially over the past 3 that they can play with anyone. I would not hesitate to bet on them against LSU or Alabama next week. They always rise to the occasion. I am not saying they would win but I wouldn't bet against them. Furthermore, you give BSU 3-4 years in a BCS conference with this coaching staff and we will get the recruits to play with anyone year in and year out!
Of course bcluck
and next year when TCU walks through the Big Least, you will come back and say how wrong you were.
You know, last year Oregon played all of 4 teams with a winning record, played only one team that finished the year in the top 25. So you are the last fan base that can talk about "wars week in week out".
B43S42U...the winning record...
...means nothing...its the quality...as we are seeing with Utah this season.
Dont hang your hat on TCU, they have already lost twice this season, one to a BCS team, the other to...well a non aq...they like Utah, BYU or Boise have shown flashes, but no staying power...
"Winning records mean nothing"
Only a PAC2 fan would have the gall to say something so ignorant.
BSU4342....Last year I thought BDucks criticism of
BSU was wrong....this year, alittle more right....
It really isn't the PAC2 this year, more like the PAC5 with
Oregon
Arizona State
USC
Stanford
Washington
playing good....and Arizona, even with lousy record would not be an easy win as compared to all of the MWC teams....
This is the Broncos best chance....it starts slipping next year....the Broncos need a 12-0, which they have an excellent team to do so....and they need help from their foes to have excellent records for their own SOS esp...Georgia, TCU, Toledo, SDSU, Air Force, Colorado State, and Nevada....those folks need to finish well above 50% wins....
If not, well then good luck at the Potato Bowl....
Tfunky...Rankings....What
happens this week?
- I've thought Neb was a fraud all season and correctly predicted Wisc would maul them. Wisc looked very good doing so.
- Stanford climbs while idle last week, struggles early with UCLA, then handles a low tier PAC team
- Oregon Idle
- Explosive OK ST idle
- OKla hammers as expected
- AB beats an SEC team that suffered a lot when QB went down
-LSU kinda so so vs a cellar dweller
- Clemson climbs 3 slots to crack Top 10?
BSU...Sure coulda used a 45-3..just a couple plays away...
Weigh in Sir...

Georgia, Tulsa, and Toledo all helped yesterday. Hope they can keep it up.
I wouldnt count on that by end of regular
season....Tulsa and Toldeo helped....but Tulsa will fall more as their schedule starts to get harder.....Georgia's two week siesta is over....Toledo will help because schedule gets weaker and they are a good team....the hurts are TCU, Air Force (later on), SDSU (later on), and Nevada....
and Boises season finale which is usually scheduled for tougher rivalries are left for the excitement of Wyoming and New Mexico....The Broncos will get leaped frogged this final week also on one of the final two games....

and we are all waiting on the edge of our seats to hear your latest JFK conspiracy theory on the dutch kids.
PS what's next, the two had sex change operations and are actually the long lost grand daughters of Fidel Castro?
B43S42 - not a conspiracy at all
It is true. They are being investigated by somebody - NCAA or MWC or who knows. So is not a conspiracy at all. Nobody knows who is investigating them or for what. Nobody at BSU does. Not Coach Pete or Bronco Bob - absolutely nobody. It has been 6 weeks now. Who knows maybe the investigaton was over 5 and a half weeks ago and nobody at BSU read the memo clearing them. They are prolly been cleared and exonerated and don't even know it cuz BSU don't evenknow it.
I am glad you brought up the Dutch Boyz and their matter, as I had just about forgotten about it and didn't have anythingto say about it. But now that you have resurrected it from the grave, we can yak about it even more.
Thanx.
Will sart formulating some postings for tommorrow and beyond.

Hey, I'm not taking anything away from Boise...
...you guys are having another great season...I'm just saying that what everyone thought would happen is happening...see Utah. Sounds like the young season and Boise's ineptness is taking its toll on the fan base...
Boise, as I said is having another great season, however, if they dont step it up they will get beat...they dont want to blow it this season...with all the great zero and one loss teams out there, Boise cannot afford a loss...
With all those seniors, and what we have seen from the replacements, Boise better not lose focus again this season...its the last one for a long while where they actually have a chance to BCS bust...
bduck, it's INJURIES INJURIES INJURIES!
I suppose somebody has to get paralyzed or die before BSU learns how to train better.
I will never buy this CRAP ARGUMENT about how the game has changed. These are men who are expected to support themselves and their families and I just don't hear about so many injuries from other schools. This is NOT 'SOP', clean it up.

I've just failed miserably trying to be incognito.
FO - great point
If you recall, last Fall a year ago, there was a thread about the amount of injuries to BSU players as compared to other schools with football programs. BSU seemed to have almost double the leg injuries (ankles and knees).
This is a timely topic to discuss.
Apparently BSU does not have an effective program to reduce the number of injuries as compared to other schools.
As time goes by, it is painfully obvious that many things are 'out of synch' with BSU football coaching, when compared to other schools.
Thanx for bringing this up.
