Boise State and Idaho won't be meeting on the football field this year, ending a streak of 40 years with a meeting. But the Gem State rivals — now in different conferences — will face off in men's basketball.
Boise State and Idaho will play Dec. 31 at the Idaho Center in Nampa. The game time has not been set. The one-year agreement calls for an equal revenue split.
The game has been in the works for months, but was officially announced Sunday by Boise State and Idaho.
Since 1971, the teams have met 85 times. Boise State leads the series 50-35. This will be only the second neutral site meeting. The first came at the 1992 Big Sky Tournament in Montana. All but eight of the meetings have come with the schools in the same conference.
Boise State joined the Mountain West on July 1. Idaho is a member of the Western Athletic Conference.
The Broncos won both meetings last year.
Idaho announces schedule
Idaho announced its complete schedule Sunday. The Vandals host Washington State at Cowan Spectrum on Dec. 7 and play a road game at Oregon State on Dec. 9. Idaho opens its season on Nov. 12 at Long Beach State.
The Vandals begin conference play on Jan. 5 vs. Nevada.
