The Boise State football team has added a safety with Pac-12 offers to its 2012 recruiting class — the Broncos’ 14th commitment.
Chanceller James (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) of San Diego committed to the Broncos last week. He is a third-year starter for Steele Canyon High in Spring Valley, Calif.
James visited for the Broncos’ fall scrimmage and was impressed by the fan turnout.
“Boise State has always been my top school,” he said. “When I went up there to see it, I really liked it.”
James also plays wide receiver in high school. He led Steele Canyon with 29 catches for 499 yards and five touchdowns last season, according to maxpreps.com.
His other scholarship offers included Arizona State, Arizona, Colorado, Eastern Washington, Air Force and New Mexico, he said.
He attended camps at UCLA and Arizona.
“I liked Boise better than those,” he said.
He was recruited by defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski.
The Broncos lose three scholarship safeties after this season — George Iloka, Travis Stanaway and Cedric Febis.
