It’s starting to feel a little like game week.
At Boise State football interviews Saturday, the talk was finally about next week’s season opener against Georgia more than about practice and replacing lost starters.
“They’re big, they’re very athletic — there’s a reason they play in the SEC,” redshirt freshman wide receiver Matt Miller said. “It’s going to be a great challenge for us.”
The Broncos are planning to practice at the Caven-Williams Sports Complex next week with the canned crowd noise cranked up to prepare for the Georgia Dome.
The crowd actually will be smaller than for last year’s game against Virginia Tech but the dome might make it louder. The Georgia Dome holds 71,959 fans. The crowd at FedExField was 83,587.
Boise State only received 7,500 tickets for the Georgia game, so that leaves 60,000-plus cheering for the Bulldogs.
“We’re trying to do everything we can to prepare for the noise in practice so when we get there we’re not overwhelmed by it,” senior offensive tackle Nate Potter said.
The Broncos used the canned noise at times during fall camp, too. When they practice indoors, some of the coaches wear earplugs.
“That noise is painful,” coach Chris Petersen said, “but it’s part of the process.”
The No. 5 Broncos open the season at 6 p.m. MDT Sept. 3 in Atlanta against the No. 19 Bulldogs.

Miller says he’s at full strength now, completing his rehab from a torn Achilles tendon. He’s eager to play his first football game since the Montana state championship game in the fall of 2009.
“I’m just really excited,” he said. “I haven’t been in a game for a few years, it seems like.”
He and sophomore Geraldo Boldewijn will serve as the primary deep threats in the Broncos’ offense this year.
“Me and Geraldo need to have that big-play threat, that deep-ball threat,” he said. “We’re both very capable, I think, and we’re both really excited to get out there.”
Miller can’t remember the last time he ran a 40-yard dash and guesses he’d run it in about 4.5 seconds, which makes him a little slower than Boldewijn. Boldewijn ran it in 4.37 seconds in the spring.
Miller, though, is better with his hands. He also is the Broncos’ biggest receiver at 6-foot-3, 213 pounds.
“Not being the fastest guy, I kind of had to learn to position my body and do things like that,” he said. “Being able to catch the ball in traffic was one of my attributes coming out of high school.”

Here are some notes on Georgia — including the fact that the Bulldogs held a practice in the Georgia Dome.

I'm always nervous before the season opener,
especially when the Broncos are playing a tough team on the road. But they always seem to win. For some reason, I'm not terribly nervous about this game. Hope that's not a bad omen....Sunny...

Me too
The Broncos don't always win -- the last time in Georgia comes to mind -- so some nerves are appropriate.
I wish them the best!
Good to hear
that Miller is ready to go, he can make an immediate impact. Both he and Kirby provide some good hands to team with Shoe. Miller had an impressive catch in the scrimmage with good yards after the catch--so, I hope that is the area where he will excel this year with his size and strength. Geraldo has the speed, but still looks a little green and seems to need open space which he probably won't have with the speed of Georgia's DB's.
Georgia practiced in the Dome?
Isnt that convenient. And this is a neutral site, how? Because its not in Athens?
Hoping our young WR corp can get the job done.
I thought that too, JL,
but it is what it is. I'm wondering if the running game will get established first, and then work in the passing game. I'm thinking we've got plenty of weapons, it just boils down to the coaches making the correct decisions as when/where to use them. I'm jacked. This is my 54th year of watching Bronco football. Went to my first game just before my 10th birthday....Sunny...
Hey Sunny
You're exactly right. If the Broncos want to continue to be thought of as a contender they need to play in others' backyards and win. It is what it is. We have had some trouble running against fast defenses. And no holes to run = no passing lanes to throw. That becomes a big problem. We have a senior/experienced football team with the best coaches in the country. We've been spoiled fans, but I expect correct decisions and a W with this veteran group. Congrats on 54 years! I have 34 and hope to have another 54!
JL, Gotta tell you this,
Back in the early/mid '50s, one of my neighbors was the QB for BJC. Still one of the best cowboys you ever will meet, and one of the best people, a damm good friend, and a pretty good federal judge too. Edward J. Lodge. Not bad for a kid that graduated from Jordan Valley High School.....Sunny...
Love it Sunny
Not bad at all. And he was an All American, twice I believe.
Ω Let 'em!
Last fall Oregon State painted their practice field blue, too. Didn't seem to help them much (lost to BSU 37-24).
Maybe Georgia put up a couple of hedges in the dome to make it even more comfy. Let's hope they have the pooper-scoopers at the ready when Uga cuts loose. I know, bad scenario.
Big game
I always predict the Broncs will lose whenever they play a BCS team. They have almost always proven me wrong. Therefore I will continue my reverse psychology and predict a 34-14 win for the dogs. Sometimes I just love being wrong.
Randy
I love you being wrong as well!
game week!!
Are you guys on twitter? Some super funny ppl on there. Check out @bluturf and @dawgsrus.

Dare?
Just means he expects us to kick away from him. He's right, even tho he's mouthing off.

wiz....sometimes the psychology and tone of the
game is established early....I think BSU should kick to him early in the game....stopping him can set the tone in front of 70,000+ fans....kicking away will get them (fans) in the game early by booing etc....
I can see BSU not kicking his way later in the game....
Ugly I actually agree
however I REALLY doubt that BSU will do ANYTHING different than planned as a response to this silliness. The only thing that might happen is this gentelman is going to get hit harder than he would have.....
How Many Times, P2 and Ugly,...
Do you see a team kick to a return artist...get burned..and then kick away the rest of the way?
Many, Many times. NFL and NC2A. So why bother? The crowd will be in the game early anyway..
If Harman (sp?) has enough leg to put the kid a few deep in the end zone, heckya. If he only gets it to the 5 or even 10, then no way..
right wiz
But I can guarantee BSU will not change any plays or kicking based upon this tweet. But what will happen is anytime this guy touches the ball a player is going to hit just a little bit harder. It is why coaches actually hate this kind of lockeroom material. Shut p and play the game. Coach pete was way out in front of this twitter smack talk thing.
No
Game plan won't change and yes..there will be teeth jarring on contact.
Yes, he was. Speak softly big stick approach.
Basically, one would hope they are (headline literalist, member)

Economists were invented to make astrologers look professional.
Boise must play the 3-4
defense, if chance to win....the 3-4 must be played throughout 40% of all defensive plays....If Georgia pa$$es too much, they simply will lose....
If Georgia is to win, then an effective running game where at least 70% of all offensive plays are running types ie qb option, running backs up middle or off right tackle, or end arounds and possible sweeps....
Boise will win, but could lose if Georgia running game keeps getting past the secondary....that is why the 3-4 defense of Boise is necessary....
3-4?
The 3-4 is typically weaker against the run without 3 large bodies to occupy space at the point of attack, especially a huge, talented nose tackle who can cover both 'A' gaps. Both DE's are usually required to cover the 'B' and 'C' gaps on their side of the line. We don't have near the size to run a 3-4, especially with the Georgia offensive line averaging 35 pounds heavier than our d-line. It's a scheme that could be successful against WAC or lower tier MWC competition, but Georgia would run all over us, with linemen consistently getting blocks at the second level. Look at all the 3-4's run successfully in college and pros, you'll see the NT is typically around 350 pounds, while Winn is only 300.
This can explain the upsides/downsides/requirements of the 3-4 better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-4_defense
Stick with 4 down lineman, 4-3 and 4-2-5.
interesting
3-4 all day huh?
Here's a glimpse as to what we might expect to see.

"Keeps Getting PAST The Secondary" ???
Ugly...your brilliance is hiding yet again....
Ugly is trying hard
to fool us on his prowess again. Just like with potatoes, ugly found someone and regurgitates what they tell him as his own smarts. Its funny.

Uniforms..
What has been the reaction of the Boise State Fans..and players to the new Nike Combat Uniforms? The Georgia fans mostly despise them; the Georgia players love them. As a Georgia fan, I think our uniforms are capable of producing an "emetic reaction" from a Georgia fan with stylish tastes. The Boise uniforms are far more stylish and complimentary. Uniforms: advantage....Boise State.
