The Boise State football team has added a two-year series with Southern Miss to the schedule beginning next year, the schools announced Wednesday.

The Broncos will play in Hattiesburg, Miss., on Oct. 6, 2012. The Golden Eagles will play in Bronco Stadium on Sept. 28, 2013.

The schools will trade $200,000 payments as part of the deal.

The teams previously played in 2007 in Boise and 2008 in Hattiesburg — with Boise State winning 38-16 and 24-7. Southern Miss, which competes in Conference USA, was 8-5 last year.

Boise State has six home and six road games scheduled for 2012. The Broncos can add one more game because they play at Hawaii.

The Broncos have room for one more game in 2013, almost certainly a home game.

Here are the Broncos’ future schedules:

at Michigan State (Friday, Aug. 31)
vs. Miami OH (Sept. 15)
vs. BYU (Sept. 22)
at Southern Miss (Oct. 6)
Mountain West home games: Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State, UNLV
Mountain West road games: Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Wyoming

at Oregon State (Sept. 24)

at Washington State (Sept. 9)

vs. Michigan State (Sept. 17)

at Michigan State (Sept. 16)

Southern Miss plays tough football. These should be good games to watch.

Is the Statesman getting their news from the Pony Express?

Southern Miss fans were telling us this over one MONTH ago.

I like it

I made the trip down there three years ago and it was one of the best road trips I've taken - New Orleans, Hattiesburg for the game and great barbeque, then a couple of days at Gulf Shores, Alabama. The Southern Miss fans were great, I'm looking forward to this one.

Hey Chadd

The big question for me is, what are the buy-outs for the return games with Mich. St & Wash.? Or are we really just getting an extra 50k for a one way trip?

I have those in the office, but I believe they're both seven figures. I'm actually doing a story on that in the next few days.

Looking forward to the story.

Southern Miss doesn't get me excited.

I know it's easier said than done, but we need to schedule some BCS schools in there, like a pac 12 school. IMO

Loss of Talent

I think one BCS team (plus BYU) for 2012 should be fine. Considering all the talent we're losing at the end of this year, we don't want to go too crazy with scheduling. A low tier FBS school at home would fill out the schedule nicely.

I would normally agree, but if we can avoid really difficult schedules during 'reloading' years, why not?

Idaho has open spot

Boise State is way too much about schedule. Scheduling good teams makes the program better. But let's not have tooooo many good teams in the schedule, maybe the all dreaded loss monster with come. Schedule Idaho -- and take your win. Bronco Nation makes me laugh.

congrats bsu!...

..on finally blowing out that bozo bleymaier. looooong overdue!!!!!

Bleymaier was let go because of what went on with the tennis and track teams. Unfortunately the NCAA has shown that if you fire a big name, they'll negotiate. Since the NCAA is the judge, jury, and prosecutor, BSU might as well take the plea deal.

Gene Bleymaier was a great proponent of getting BSU nationwide recognition through football excellence. That is what an AD does. Job well done. All those new buildings and record enrollments wouldn't have happened without his participating in casting, and achieving a vision for what could be. BSU will reap the benefits of his tenure as AD for years to come.

bronco41 will be sooooo pleased. It is too bad. Im kinda scared the NCAA is telling BSU they found horrible stuff and gave them a heads up and then BSU had to dump bley. Watch the next couple of weeks the NCAA could have some bad news.

Maybe 3 more people will learn algebra.

Too literal? I'm sorry you feel I have a Literal Agenda!
