Michael Soderlund posted four shutouts and a .77 goals-against average this past season, leading Timberline High to the 5A state tournament and earning recognition as the 2010-11 Gatorade Idaho Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior goalkeeper, who was a member of the U.S. Youth Soccer 1994 Region IV Olympic Development Program, signed a letter of intent to play for Indiana. Soderlund is graduating early so he can join the Hoosiers this fall.
Soderlund was a 5A Southern Idaho Conference first-team selection this past season and concluded his high school career with 15 shutouts.
"His dedication to the game, his passion and hard-working attitude make him special," Idaho Rush coach Jens Haustein said in a press release. "He has well above-average goalie skills. He has very good technique, catching and saving shots. A good modern goalie isn't just a guy in the box, he also has to have good foot skills to play like a sweeper. And Michael's capable of doing that."
