Sierrna Short, Centennial: The junior guard made a game-winning 3-pointer in the Patriots’ 61-58 overtime victory against Boise on Feb. 11 in the 5A District Three final. Short finished that game with 13 points. In a 60-29 semifinal victory against Mountain View on Feb. 8, she scored a team-high 17 points. Centennial (23-0) opens the state tournament against Meridian (10-14) at 3 p.m. Thursday at Nampa’s Idaho Center.


Kyle Dranginis, Skyview: The senior finished the regular season with a flurry to help the Hawks (17-3, 14-1 4A SIC) claim the conference title and take the No. 1 seed into the District Three tournament. In a 67-55 victory against Columbia on Feb. 11, he scored 38 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and added five assists. And in a 60-33 victory against Bishop Kelly on Feb. 12, he scored 20 points with 16 rebounds and six assists. Dranginis will play college basketball at Gonzaga.


Borah team: The Lions won the Grapple for the Granite — the Boise public schools championship — with victories against Timberline and Boise on Feb. 8. Taylor West (160 pounds) and Tanner Harris (171) led the way for Borah with pins in both matches. West defeated Timberline’s Shawn Nutt in 1:06 and Boise’s Brett Walton in 4:19, while Harris defeated Timberline’s Chris Nutt in 1:11 and Boise’s Canyon Purcell in 5:20.
