Marcus Eaton sets Knitting Factory attendance record

ImageThis will come as little surprise to anyone stuffed into Saturday night's show, but Boise singer-guitarist Marcus Eaton set an attendance record for a local act at the Knitting Factory.

His record-release party brought in 1,015 fans, according to Knit management. When people left — and a few definitely did because of the jam-packed house and purgatory-like wait for drinks — more people were let inside. So it was by the book, even if the venue's legal capacity is 999.

Sure, it was a cheap ticket ($6) and lots of freebies were floating around, but still: That has to feel awfully gratifying for a veteran Boise musician such as Eaton, who was celebrating the release of his new album, "As If You Had Wings."

Incidentally, L.A.-based Irish-rockers Flogging Molly hold the Knitting Factory's overall attendance record with 1,029 fans on Oct. 10, 2008.

Steve Meyers,

the opening act, is definitely worth a mention here too. Unfortunately, less than half of the crowd stayed to the very end for the final montage by Marcus Eaton though - they missed him at his absolute best!!! Very talented, creative and entertaining...
Hugs JS!

Agreed

The end was amazing. Marcus Eaton is crazy talented, and really showed it at the end of the show. I also agree on the opening act. Overall it was a great night for music.

Agree about the end

I probably should have just mentioned it in my original post. Eaton's acoustic solo set near the end was an adrenaline rush: Rage Against the Machine and Michael Jackson covers, humor, mind-blowing guitar proficiency. I really think that Boiseans who haven't seen Eaton in years would be shocked by how much he's developed and evolved. A friend of mine remarked that he's like a modern-day version of Leo Kottke in the 1970s.

Maybe they should hire him for the Western Idaho Fair

It's Chinese New Year now. Unfortunately it's been recalled.

also in the audience

was David Crosby.

We saw him...

very cool.

Really

I was at this one, but I swear that the Death Cab concert back in (can't remember if it was 06 or 07) was more packed.

Any numbers on that one, Mr. Deeds?

PS: The acoustic encore was my favorite part of the show as well. Would've liked to see Marcus moonwalk a bit while doing all that fancy fretwork however.

Sure

Official numbers as provided to Pollstar by the promoter: Death Cab For Cutie, Oct. 6, 2005: Sold out with 999 fans

Thanks,

I must have been standing in the wrong place that night.
