Maya Ah You, Middleton: The super sophomore came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points, and added five steals and three assists to help guide Middleton past Mountain Home 66-36 in the 4A District Three Tournament semifinals on Saturday. She also scored 10 points in a 71-33 victory against Nampa on Wednesday. The semifinal victory earned the Vikings a berth in the state tournament, where they’ll take aim at their third championship in four seasons. First, however, Middleton (20-2) meets Bishop Kelly (14-8) at 8 p.m. Thursday in the district final at Nampa High. The Vikings will attempt to win their third consecutive district title.
Daved Gillmor, Eagle: The senior post player had a big week as Eagle (10-8, 9-7 5A Southern Idaho Conference) continued its impressive play with a third consecutive win. In a 73-55 victory at Vallivue on Wednesday, he scored 33 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. And in a 67-34 win at Boise on Friday, he scored 16 points with five rebounds and four assists. Gillmor ranks second in the league in scoring with 17.9 points per game and is eighth in rebounding (6.3). He makes 52.9 percent of his field goals, 36.6 percent of his 3-pointers and 71.1 percent of his free throws. Eagle visits Borah (15-3, 13-3) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and hosts Caldwell (5-13, 3-13) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday to close out the regular season.
Ben Alcala, Boise: The 112-pounder went 7-0 at the Dick Fleishman Duals at Pocatello High on Friday and Saturday to reel in outstanding wrestler honors. Alcala was ranked No. 1 (IdahoWrestlingNews.com) among all classifications in Idaho heading into the week. Alcala and the Braves return to action at 5 p.m. Tuesday when they take on Boise’s other three public high schools at Grapple for the Granite at Borah High.
