Update 01.18.2011: Although I didn't address the issue in my Scene column, it's worth mentioning that Channel 7 isn't currently interested in making the switch to HD for its local news. Unless ratings slip, why should they make the investment? Frankly, not all TV media folks are fans of high-definition broadcasts. But that's fodder for a future column. It appears that in 2011, the only local TV news in HD will be on Channel 12.
----
About this time each year, I try to take a look at local TV news ratings. The graphic below is a preview of tomorrow's Scene column. The numbers represent how many viewers 18 and older were supposedly watching that station's local news programming at any given time on a weekday.

Time for KTVR 12 to throw in the towel
How much more can this station afford to loose attracting a grand total of 13,000 views per day?
They tried almost everything, even running that blabbering self deluded fool Kevin Miller at some point during the 10- 10:35pm news.
Suggestion: Rerun Glee or another FOX hit.
Just more Fox residue
Fox is losing all over the country. Their outlandish commentary should insure the plug is pulled.
Could it be...
that you are completely unaware that Fox News (cable/satellite/internet) has nothing to do with local Fox affiliates (air)? Is that possible?
Couldn't tell from the number of Fox national stories they have.
Ps Their newscast is so stinkin cheap it ain't killing them at all.
All the feeds don't hurt.
Everybody knows the only race is between KBOI and KTVB. Six doesn't count to them and hasn't since the 80s.

Fox Is Right
They leave everyone else in the dust and whimpering along side of the road in the cable markets. That is why there is so much hostility and so many lies told about them. They are beating the pants off everyone else and the lefties can't stand it. More power to them.
Agreed
Very far right.
Fox is the master at combining their news service with entertainment and that's why they're cleaning up right now. They've got a slick product that very effectively tells people what they should think without making people feel like they are being told what to think. I'm still surprised more of their viewers don't realize what is being done to them, however, as Fox isn't exactly subtle most of the time.
Personally I try to stay away from the commentary stuff that isn't actually news (Hannity, etc). News wise I try to take a broad sampling because there are many competing agendas out there. Anybody who thinks Fox isn't slanted right or CBS isn't slanted left isn't paying attention.
That is why
research shows that Fox viewers are the least well informed on issues.
Maybe they don't want to and succeeded better than we did.

Fox news
Who did the impartial report on Fox viewers' knowledge base? Who paid for the study? I myself prefer Net news to tv news.
After I hear the weather report on Ch.6 at 10 PM, I check the national weather service online. I figure one out of two might be right!))
I prefer Austin City Limits and The Cool TV

Fool huh?
It's pretty ridiculous of someone who is so dense that they can't even spell a simple little word like LOSE (and instead misspell it as LOOSE - which means something entirely different chuckle-head) to refer to anyone else as a "blabbering self deluded fool". If you'd like to see a REAL "self deluded fool", with or without the "blabbering", I would suggest you try looking in a mirror. I guarantee you will see one there.
being around here as much as
being around here as much as you are B, you should know lose is hardly ever spelled right...
Yes, It's True, My Mistake
Bronc,
I apologize for enraging your sensibilities.
But what about my recommendation?

I'm a little surprised
Anybody is even still watching TV news.
The sad thing is,
There is no "news" in local news. It's a show, supported by commercials written at a fifth-grade reading level.
Sadder yet is that you can't find anything more interesting to write about than this. Sadder than that is that you actually have a "preview" to let us know you're going to cover something this insignificant. Sadder yet, you get paid. All so sad.
You Got That Right
I seldom pay attention to the local channels. Channel 7 is the exception. I still recall the Dan Rather and now Catie Couric stuff. Sorry channel 2 but you are still tied to that mess. It is part and parcel of being tied to CBS. You lack credibility. You (CBS) are unfair and present a left wing point of view even though America is not. ABC is better but not by much. But KTVB is an anomaly. They are generally a bit more centrist even though they belong to NBC and the leftists at General Electric. Maybe the new bosses at ComCast - I think that is right- may take a different tack and give up on being the Democrat party's mouth piece.
They are tied to three other stations in a nice pool of talent.
KING, KGW and KREM

Even sadder
Got us both to read it, didn't they?? :)
Doogie
It is all because they got
It is all because they got that handsome and always correct "Lying" Larry Gebert.
what a tool.
Channel 6...
...isn,t worth watching on small screen, and no HD! They also need to get with the 21st century and lose the transplant bimbos, that can't pronounce Idaho cities or street names!
They got
Bimbo's? I'm going to check it out tonight!
Drako
Then there's The Cool TV bimbos! VI-DEE-OHZ!

Fox 12
Comes on at a good time, it's what I watch if I watch the news.
They let a lot of good people go though and replaced them with people who will work for cheap just because they want to be on TV. I miss the days when Shannon Paterson was on every night.
Still, mainstream "news" shouldn't be considered anything more than entertainment. The corporations (the ones funding the stations) decide what makes the news.
Curious
Have you ever actually been in a newsroom? Or are you just taking Rush's word for it?
My point exactly
Rush is just entertainment. Some people take him way too seriously.
Ratings
These ratings are not a total number of viewers. They are a total of viewers in a 15 minute window for a specific program, such as the 6:00 news. Just because there isn't a number showing viewers on KTRV at 6 doesn't mean there isn't anyone watching; it means they don't have a news show at 6pm. It definitely doesn't mean that only 13,000 people watch KTRV during the day.
It also isn't an exact science, it's from Nielson diaries which aren't very accurate. When was the last time that anyone of you received a diary? About 2,000 people receive them and usually only 700-900 actual fill them out and turn them back in.
Holding my breath....
...You mean of the 4 great news broadcast that there are (KNIN replays one of the other channels - ABC I believe)? Do tell. The suspense is killing me.
