Kicker/punter Matt Goudis of Calabasas, Calif., made an oral commitment to the Boise State football team Thursday night.

Goudis (6-foot, 165 pounds) is a fourth-year starter at Chaminade High. He made a 54-yard field goal last week and has hit from 60 yards in practice, he said.

He visited Boise State for the Oregon State game. He hopes to replace four-year starter Kyle Brotzman as the kicker/punter.

“The coaches, they’re great, and then the opportunity to be able to start as a freshman — and the town is great,” he said. “Everyone there seems like they love the Broncos.”

Boise State was the only school to offer Goudis so far, but he visited Florida and also had talks with Michigan, California and Fresno State, he said.

The talks with Florida were “pretty serious,” he said.

“But they weren’t sure if they were going to offer a kicker in my class,” he said. “I didn’t feel like waiting.”

Goudis is more of a kicker but utilizes the rugby-style punt that Boise State special teams coach Jeff Choate likes to employ.

“I can’t explain it — how much fun it’s going to be,” Goudis said. “This is a great opportunity for me. I understand what it’s like to be young on a team. I really want to compete next year and help them win the Mountain West.”

Here is a feature on Goudis from the L.A. Daily News.

Just hit me

Brotz won't be around......seems like he's been the Broncs kicker for 8 or 9 years.

Texas

Amazing how many recruits we are getting out of Texas! Now if we could start attracting some of the upper 4 and 5 star recruits!

By the time

this coaching staff gets a hold of a recruit they end up being 4 and 5 star recruits.

Interesting

how Goudis is 6 for 6 on fake punts this year....now if that doesn't fit in at BSU I don't know what does!!

Notice

That he is also a kick off specialist. Does that mean he can consistently get the ball deep into the end zone and help eliminate runbacks???

Yep, 78% of his KO's were TB's his Jr year

38 KO's as a Sophomore (26 TBs, 2/4 onside)

More info on him @

we may be in for a long run of dominance

the program may be on the verge of something unbelievable.

81 is wise

Yeppers, something special for sure.

I know Murphy doesn't see the 2011 Bronco tam as being as good as this years team, due to the loss of a'few' starters (Pettis, Young, etc.) - but, I don't see it that way. I keep looking at the depth chart and I see lots of backup sophomores and juniors who are already playing in key roles and at a higher level than most FBS starters. The more game experience they get, the better they become - weekly. I really think the 2011 Bronco team will be every bit as good as this year's team, if not better.

I am still pinching myself about the kicker kid, to see if it is real.

Unbelievable. A true Five Star recruit.

VNDL

Just thinking out loud

But I bet Harper comes back next at Wide out.......

the backups will perform

and they all seem to fit the mold. work hard, keep your mouth shut, listen to your coaches, play like he-ll and good things will happen.

81.....

Bad news dude, one of your fantasy opponents receivers hung 35 on you tonight...You're gonna have to step up..good luck!

well, since i will be at the boise state game

i'm hopin pettis will surpass that performance.
