Broncos lauded for behavior in the library -- the Library of Congress, that is

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter received an e-mail from an employee of the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., praising the "courtesy and respect" accorded library employees by Boise State fans during their visit for the football game with Virginia Tech.

"I cannot remember a more polite, friendly, funny, respectful and decent group of visitors than the Broncos of Boise State," wrote LOC employee James Lavelle, a clerk in the sales shop.

Lavelle, who grew up in Virginia, was so impressed that he wrote that he looks forward to visiting Boise. "I've never been there, but I hope to get there one day. I've heard good things about it," Lavelle told the Statesman on Wednesday. "The Boise State fans were all great."

His e-mail to Bieter was sent Sept. 9, three days after Boise State's 33-30 win. The Statesman was forwarded a copy by Sen. Mike Crapo's office on Wednesday.

Lavelle's note to Bieter follows:

Good morning, Your Honor,

My name is James Lavelle. I am an employee in the sales shop at the Library of Congress and we had the pleasure of hosting a great number of Boise State fans in the last 10 days. I was so impressed by the courtesy and respect with which they treated us and the Library that I felt the need to contact you.

At first I wondered why I was seeing so much orange and blue, then I remembered the football game with Virginia Tech. Everyday leading up to the game brought more and more orange and blue and with each interaction I was more impressed. I cannot remember a more polite, friendly, funny, respectful and decent group of visitors than the Broncos of Boise State.

I wanted you to know how proud you should be of the people of Boise who traveled to Washington, D.C., to support their football team. We would be honored to host them anytime and I personally look forward to one day visiting Boise.

Thank you for your time and have a nice day.

How nice! It's always refreshing when someone takes the time

to point out the positive. Thank you, Mr. Lavelle!

Wonderful!

Thank you Mr. Lavelle for the nice letter. Thank you notes seem to be a lost art, it is nice to see someone who still does this.

Way to go Idahoans/Bronco fans for representing the state so well.

James Lavelle

Mr. Lavelle I do hope that you do get a chance to come to Idaho. As IO posted, you are truly a practitioner of a lost art. I commend you sir.

A lost art?

I wouldn't go that far...

Expectations

I would not expect you to...

Lost Art?

That's the ArtsBeat story that touts a new piece of public art, gives it's location then links to the artist's homepage where I havent found it YET, no picture, make me crawl and I don't get to Boise much so I think it's invisible.

I digress badly however. This fellow is the tops. Buy him a box seat.

It'll be a long time...

...before the mayor of Moscow receives an email like this one.

Easy on all of the Moscow community

I went to Boise State (not U of I), live in Moscow, and I travel for games. In fact I was in D.C. for the game. There are two communities in Moscow, the university and the residence. Just say'n... Go Broncos!

Boise State...

home of the "Nice" and "Uninebriated" fans.
Really there is nothing else need be said.

Don't hurt yourself patting yourself on the back

I am a Boise State fan and will admit we have our fair share of nasty and inebriated fans. Luckily, I didn't see any of them in DC. Maybe the jerks don't travel much?

If they are always inebriated they ain't got gas money.

Holy Cow

You have got to be kidding me. One letter from a gift shop employee and all BSU fans everywhere confirm for themselves that they are the best fans on earth. Is this story really worth the virtual paper it's printed on? Did all 12,000 BSU fans in D.C. go through the gift shop?

Tell you what. Let's have Mr. LaVelle come walk through the Bronco Stadium parking lot during a home game wearing Vandal gear and see if he keeps the same impression of BSU fans.

There were Boise State fans all over the place

and I had multiple venders, shopkeepers, tour guides, etc, tell me the same thing. Is it so bad to acknowledge a complement to your own citizens? Mr. Lavelle obviously wanted people from Boise to hear that he appreciated them. What better way than to include his comments in the paper? Boise State fans may not be perfect, and there is obvious dislike among many Broncos and Vandals, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take a complement when it is given. In general, Boise State fans travel well and the businesses in the host cities appreciate them.

Lame

Wow, getting recognized for behaving as one should - how noteworthy.
In other news, 20,000 Treasure Valley diners dropped their loads into the restaurant toilet instead of next to it. Where are their letters of praise?

Down Boys

Nice accolades from D.C.

Leave it to deadmonkey

To class up this post! Nobody likes you DM have we covered that before?

Wow, so testy

This post lost all hint of class when the hypocrite Bronco fans were brought up in the headline.
And as for not being liked, most people I meet get along with me very well, just not stern and serious fools like you. The people I choose to spend time around KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE TO JOKE AROUND! Quit being so GD serious all the time - it will eventually kill you.

I'll say it again!

Nobody likes you! Now go start your car with the garage door closed......ohhhhh just joking! Not really!

I'm pretty sure

Aiding and abetting suicide is illegal, and certainly morally wrong. But I'll let it slide since your opinion doesn't matter. Now don't be turning this into a popularity contest - the only place you'd win that is at your dinner table.

Problem

What is your problem? When did school let out today?
Your mother should be proud.
Sheesh...

People like you

It just so happens my mom is very proud of me indeed. I've accomplished and achieved a lot in my life. No matter what insult you come back at me with, you can't take that away, so no worries.
I'm so sorry to speak ill of anything Bronco-related. I forgot you guys haven't heard of the surgery to have that stick removed.
Considering my original comment, I'm having a hard time not slamming you because of your "signature." The number 2... now that's hilarious.

Right,

my suspicion is that you crawled out of one of those loads. It must be awful to be you.

Wrong

It's awesome being me. You're the one that likely has an awful life, getting all bent out of shape because someone isn't showing love for your precious Broncos. I'll never understand making one trivial thing such a part of my life, but I can still offer my pity towards you. Just take this advice: when the Broncos start losing games, remember to keep your chin up, little buddy. Some other popular thing for you to live for will come along.

They do act different than

Vandals fans ....

Quit already....

time for a timeout......in the corner you go.

For goodness sake...this letter had NOTHING to do with Idaho

or their fans? Can we get over the obsession that everything about Boise State has to somehow relate to U of I or that anything the Vandals do have to relate to Boise State? Get over it! This was a nice gesture from someone who took the time to express his appreciation. It has nothing to do with a Vandal rivalry. Just accept the complement!

Time to come out vandals....

Most Vandals are closet Bronco fans. Although they have more stuffed into their "closet" than just that.

Yeah, BSU & Boise Fans!

That's our spirit!!! It is so refreshing to hear some nice things about us from people on the other side of the country for once. For the most part, we are a friendly bunch with good manners. Back in '98 (when the 1st Little League baseball team from Boise made it to the World Series play-offs in San Bernadino) one of the announcers said the same thing on national t.v. about Boise's LL team & fans.

Aw, shucks!

Aren't we great! Seriously, I moved here in 1994 and still see evidence of what Lavelle is talking about. It IS a great bunch of folks here, even if most of them are Republicans...:-)

That's funny! True and funny!

"even if most of them are Republicans...:-)"

Vandals are Vandals. Keep

Vandals are Vandals. Keep up your hate preaching and will keep up the but*t whoopings. Some learn the hard way. Ignorance is bliss to some vandholes.

To the Vandals that have changed their tune recently: Thank you, but that still doesn't get you out of your football spanking. I support both BSU and U of I. Beat them rebels Vandals. Beat 'em good.

Go Broncos.

Get it Right - home of the

"Nice" and "Inebriated" fans.

Just to be fair

While not a Vandal lover, I have friends who are both Vandals and also BSU season ticket holders. They traveled to DC for the game and I am sure they behaved very well. Some of it is that younger fans don't necessarily have the money for travel that mature fans do, and some of it has to be that the Library of Congress might not be on their list of places to visit even if they did make the trip.

So, Go Broncos!
BUT
I'm only willing to dis- the Vandals when they've earned it.

that's really nice

It's nice to hear, and very nice of the guy to write the letter. One wonders what sort of behavior he sees otherwise.
