If you thought the blue turf was hard on your eyes, try being a Boise State football coach.
The Broncos coaches review footage of practice every day and it was their complaints that really hit home with athletic director Gene Bleymaier.
FieldTurf agreed to replace the 2-year-old playing surface in Bronco Stadium this summer to eliminate the glare issue that also drew complaints from fans and TV viewers.
The Broncos practiced on the field for the first time Tuesday.
“What really got my attention was those (fan) things, but also when (coach Chris Petersen) said, ‘Gene, it’s hard to watch practice tape,’ ” Bleymaier said. “Sometimes they had trouble viewing their practice tapes because of the glare.”
The old field used individual blades of “grass,” called monofilaments, Bleymaier said. The new field utilizes fibers that split into several blades, he said.
The new field is the same as the surface in the Caven-Williams Sports Complex.
“The monofilament was folding over, laying over,” Bleymaier said. “It reflected the light, which made it look shiny. They have not experienced that with the fibers that split apart.”
Players and coaches say they didn’t notice much difference other than the softness of the new field, which hasn’t been broken in yet.
“It looks bluer,” redshirt freshman quarterback Joe Southwick said, “but I’m not exactly a turf expert.”
The field was missing its WAC logos Tuesday. Those will be painted onto the field before the season opener, Bleymaier said. They will be replaced by permanent Mountain West logos next year.

Bleymaier declined comment on future football scheduling, including what his approach will be to the Idaho rivalry. President Bob Kustra and coach Chris Petersen have indicated that they don’t want to play Idaho in Moscow anymore.

Southwick and redshirt freshman wide receiver Aaron Burks provided the highlight of Tuesday's practice, the first in full pads. Southwick rolled to his right off play action and hit Burks on a crossing route. Burks ran away from the defense for a 41-yard touchdown.
Senior wideout Titus Young had a couple of explosive plays — a deep ball in 1-on-1s for about 90 yards and a short pass that he turned into a touchdown down the sideline.

Nothing against Moore (or Pettis and Young) — I try to highlight up-and-coming guys a little more. ... Moore, Pettis, Young, the running backs all look great. I think Moore has one turnover in five days. Nine out of 10 balls to Pettis are completed. No real surprises there.....Southwick has looked very sharp in camp. He's not taking Moore's job anytime soon, but he should be a dependable backup.

Southwick is not tested. I hate to tell you this but completeing a few balls at the start of camp doesn't derserve the hype your gang is displaying. This kid wasn't even recruited by the Pac10, much less the SEC.

Joe Southwick will be to Kellen Moore and BSU, what Steve Young was to Joe Montana and the 49ers. My point is that when Moore leaves, there isn't going to be any question as to whose going to fill his shoes.
I'm not sure what's up with our QB recruits, but if you look at the "type" of QB that BSU is starting to recruit, it's evident that the offense is going to become even more dynamic and explosive that it already is

Having inside information means you are not always at will to disclose that information or how you came about securing it. Hey, calling Walmart was fairly Pink Panther on your part though. You got me curious. You have been putting down Bronco fans that wear camouflage clothes, and caps to football games. Also, that they chew and spit.
What are they supposed to wear to the games, to meet your approval? Would these ideas be okay with your?
A. Dockers, polo shirts, loafers, and have sweaters around the necks and shoulders.
B. Pleated kahki slacks, pastel colored and tabbed collar shirts, blue and orange striped ties, wingtips, and a dark navy blue double breasted blazer.
C. Proper conservative toned pinstriped business suits, white colored and tabbed collar shirts, black Italian shoes with dark socks.
Not being judgemental about your tastes of what constitutes proper attire for attending Bronco football games, just curious is all.
Possibly you could get the BAA to announce a dress code for Bronco fans? Would that help get it in line for you?

PS - some of us are losing our hair a little bit in the back, so the ball caps are good to hide it, that way. Can we substitute caps with those big orange styrofoam cowboy hats or the orange clown wigs?
PPS - I am learning here. I thought the stadium got filled by ordinary people buying tickets to attend a football game to watch their team, and the more their team wins, the more they want to see the games, and buy more and more tickets, and more and more people go to the games, and so on and so on, based on the success of their team. I had no idea there was so much other stuff involved in filling a stadium.

I would think so. But you need to direct your question to the Kid, as he is the one who has the inside track on what the BAA would want as far as a dress code goes.
I am the worng person to ask. I am just a simple, common, ordinary, plain, nonremarkable, vanila, Bronco/Vandal fan and not privy to the inside stuff at the Bronco Athletic Department and the BAA.

I try to be an equal opportunity sombrero tipper. If somebody says something that makes me laugh, or giggle, or is dryly creative, or even just plain funny; I will tip - regardless of their fan base loyalty. This blog is (for me) supposed to be an opportunity to be involved with following college football and the Broncos and the Vandals and keeping informed. It is also, supposed to be fun and entertaining, to me anyway.
Actually, I tipped Tater2 quite a few times last year and will more than likely do it this year too.
He can post some pretty funny stuff sometimes. He is actually, probably smarter than he really is.

The Kid might be right. Could be an old Vandal trick, nah - takes too much time away from drinking Manly Vandal Beer and chasing skirt. I doubt it was a Donk thing either - takes too much 'oomph' and savoir faire, to gin it all up. But, a couple of these Donks are really sharp (especially Tater2 and bluemonster, who like to wait in the cut and then pounce), who knows for sure with total certainty.
I am putting my money on Kid (the real one) himself, just playing with all of us and is using his 'Uncle' Jim's (Kid's real half brother) lap top next to his desk top and having another account and user name, to get to this blog, and create confusion and a smoke screen so he can get out of the jam he got himself into with Bronco Nation and blame it all on the 'Bad' Kid.
That's my best guess, anyways.
Time will tell.
PS - It could be that Bronco Bob gets a little bored at times and likes to play, too. I am sure the imposter Kid will expose himself in time. We just got to wait and see how it all unfolds.

I am not your typical Bronco fan considering that I don't wear camo jackets with a BSU hat! Yep, believe it or not I, with that single dart, just pegged the majority of Bronco fans who attend games at Bronco stadium.
Like I said before, I love the Broncos...I 'm just not to keen on Bronco Nation. It's these camo-clad BSU fans who actually think they support the team because they buy their BSU gear at Wal-Mart along with their cheap big screen that they set up in the parking lot to impress everyone with, but instead of spending the money on that tv, they could have bought season tickets and really supported the team.
It's fans like that who are the reason that one of the hottest teams in FBS has to offer buy one ticket, get one free promotions in order to get people inside the stadium, and if BSU wasn't so busy trying to get more people into the stadium, perhaps they could figure out a way to keep the fans who do come in, to stay until at least the 4th qtr!

I really got to admmit, that I can see how so many members of Bronco Nation are trying to eviscerate and denut you, after they have read and digested what you wrote.
Also, I am having second thoughts about whether or not you are Vandal material or not. But I just don't rally believe you, anymore. Seems to me like it is looking like you will tell people what you think they want to hear at the moment. and then turn around and argue with them about what you just said. Yep, I wrote that and I've never tried to distance myself from the things I write. I have never deviated from my claim to be a Bronco fan that roots for the Vandals and I stand by it now, but as far as me supposedly saying that I was a "Vandal" well, I never claimed to be one and I challenge you to show where I may have.
