Boise State football likely to play BYU, TCU on the road in 2011, Mountain West says

The Mountain West Conference has agreed to slide Boise State into Utah’s slot in the football schedule, commissioner Craig Thompson said Wednesday at the Mountain West media days in Las Vegas.

Thompson said the scheduling arrangement hasn’t been finalized yet but is the easiest adjustment and the one that makes the most sense. Boise State joins the Mountain West and Utah moves from the Mountain West to the Pac-12 in 2011.

“What we agreed upon with the athletic directors is that we are going to take Utah out and move Boise into its spot,” Thompson told a group of reporters. “....The simplest way is to just replace one for one.”

The move likely would set up an annual season-ending showdown between Boise State and BYU.

It also could put the Broncos in a familiar scheduling rotation with the two highest-profile conference opponents — BYU and TCU — on the road in odd years and at home in even years.

The Broncos have played a similar schedule since joining the WAC in 2001. They have played Fresno State, Hawaii and Louisiana Tech at home in even years — and they haven’t lost a WAC game in those years.

In the Mountain West, Utah plays BYU and TCU at home in even years and on the road in odd years. BYU has the opposite schedule and TCU plays one premier foe on the road and one at home each year.

If the scheduling deal is completed, Boise State will play Mississippi, Toledo, BYU, TCU, UNLV and Colorado State on the road in 2011 and Utah, Tulsa, New Mexico, Wyoming, Air Force and San Diego State at home.

The 2012 home schedule would feature TCU, BYU, Colorado State, UNLV, Miami (Ohio) and an opponent to be determined.

End of Season

Righteous, end the regular season with BYU. I see a new rivalry in the making.

Nifty:

Easy drive to Youngville for a game. Great way to end a new year of ball in 2011. Nice hop for the BYU fans the other way.
win - win on that game for travel. Going to miss the Reno game every other year and the great atmosphere at Hawaii. I know that's tough on the players, but it sure is nice for the rest of us. Maybe we'll learn to like Ft. Worth and the stockyards - but - I'm pretty sure Hawaii has a better ocean and beach front.
Go Bronco's.

Cool

Both teams should be ranked in 2011 with BYU probably playing their great new young QB. How awesome to play an end of a year game in conference that will have actual meaning.

I don't get it

All it would take is flipping one year, say BYU @ Boise State in 2011, and the three perennial powers would be playing one home and one away every year. Is it really so terrible to make such a minor change?

The top teams don't always stay on the top

I know it pains most fans to think of things such as this, but there will come a future where BSU loses some game. They'll probably have a losing season. They shouldn't make it nice and neat when ten years from now it could be Colorado State and Air Force at the top of the MWC.

flipping teams

This is almost exactly what the Mountain West said...

Changing a minor requires diapers.

BYU?

I'm so happy. The uneducated against the religious. What a game it would be.

Still better...

than the Irrelevant against the WAC Wannabies.

Was Cortez the uneducated? Those tribes had a strong religion.

BYU & BSU Fan

I'm a big fan of both BYU and BSU, so I'm a bit conflicted that they will be in the same league and going head-to-head more often. When it comes to these games my family will most certainly be split as to who we are rooting for. I think it will be a fun rivalry and should yield some great games and memories.

Where do I stand when they go head-to-head? I've got to stay faithful to my alma mater, the Cougars...who I've been cheering for since I can remember. BSU certainly has given me the most to cheer about in the last few years and BYU has redeveloped into a very respectable program. So, I'll still be a fan of both teams, but give my support to BYU in the most important games of the season.

Of course...

you will. Your religion, as weird as it is, requires it, right?

lovely

What a response to a respectful statement. Not only did you verbally assault him in a condescending manner, but you got a needless religion jab in there as well. And there's nothing classier than infusing political bigotry into what's supposed to be friendly rivalry. You're making me want to root for BYU, too.

Bonwell

what do you mean he "got a needless religion jab in there as well"? That was basically the only point he made. Anyway, besides the tailgating wife swapping that's surely to occur, why do you suspect that a BSU-BYU rivalry would be a friendly one? Just Kidding! ... I apologize, so let me rephrase that question. If you take religion out of the equation, what would make you suspect that a BSU-BYU rivalry would be a friendly one? Seriously. I'd like to hear your answer.

BYU & BSU Fan

My folks, formerly strong BYU fans jumped on the BSU bandwagon a decade ago and have all but forgotten the Cougs.

Religion has something to do with my fan-hood perhaps, but I also graduated from BYU. I have cheered for BYU since I was a small kid when BSU regularly lost to Idaho and didn't give the Treasure Valley much to cheer about. LDS people, even within families in Utah are very divided between BYU and Utah. I know lots of LDS people who are huge fans of so many other college teams. Its pretty ignorant to assume that a church would require you to be a fan. Are Catholics forced to be Notre Dame fans? And if you are just taking a cheap shot at my faith...well, you're just all the more ignorant.

You're ThorD after all. Oh wait, is that a FONT?

Good Move....

You wouldn't want to risk expulsion....

BYU

There are probably more BYU fans in Idaho than there are Idaho fans. The game will be a huge sellout wherever it is played, and pull very strong TV ratings in the region. I'm excited about three or four games this year, but already excited for all the games next year.

Of course it's going to pull very strong TV ratings

The Mtn Network was launched to allow Mormons all over the country to tune into BYU games and as such the BYU vs BYU is going to be a HUGE draw - It'll be like watching both of their two wives wrestle each other.

Disclaimer. If this offended anyone it's because you're way too defensive about your religion and can't take a joke.

(flagged)

Didn't offend, but

you are 100% wrong!

Geez kid, come on! the MTN Network has absolutely nothing to do with Mormons, BYU was the most vocal MWC member against the inception of the MTN.

ugh......

I'm always 100% wrong

and I'm good at it! but still yet, the BSU-BYU game will still be like watching your two wives wrestle each other, won't it?

Make that my two

"ex" wives.....wait, I've seen that.

The Only Question is, B42,

were you married to them at the same time?

BS B43...

They probably own it or a big share of it just like they own Coke etc. etc.

Probably don't cut it

BYU has zero stake in The MTN network. They do want their own network though.

B43

It's funny that you use the word stake.

I wondered if

anyone would pick up on that.....

B43

Thanks for the invite, was fun. Sorry I stunk it up, dont usually.

JLandon, before you ask, 47-50 97 !!!!!!! Tess to the left, tees to the right, sand and wawa in between...

Stake or Steak ??

Mormons use the wierdest words-what's a stake President someone who is president of a cow?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stake_(Latter_Day_Saints)

A stake is an administrative unit composed of multiple congregations in denominations of the LDS movement.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stake_(Latter_Day_Saints)

"The name "stake" derives from the verse "[e]nlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitation: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes" (Isaiah 54:2)

I think it has something to do with polygamy and "pitching a tent"

.

kustra probably wont crap his pants over these games, what a tool

classy vandal

Stay classy dude.

Hey Pa, Hoss is picking on

Hey Pa, Hoss is picking on me. What's classy mean Pa?

Hey, JLandon! Stay bitter, dude.

BSU could win the Super Bowl and you'd still cry in your Cheerios each morning about some comment or 'injustice' against the Broncos. You're an enormous toolshed of the highest magnitude.

new teams

awesome bring on byu, tcu, air force exc.way more exciting then that other team some want us to play. lets move to WAY better things. go broncs

BYU and BSU both deserve each other...

Talk about two teams who deserve each other, with their obnoxious, holier-than-thou, we-do-no-wrong, primadonna, cry-baby fans, who (FYI) nobody likes.

It will be the cry-baby showdown of the MWC and possibly all of college football. The biggest question each year will be which team's super-sensitive fans will cry the most about some perceived B.S.!

Would that be...

the BawlBabyBowl ?

You sure do whine a lot, in

You sure do whine a lot, in fact the only crying I see on here is you crying about teams crying. have not seen any BSU fans crying about not playing Idaho, just see you crying A LOT.

That's a crying shame and where IS the spilt milk?

----------

If I think of something I'll let you know but I can't stand a naked signature.

Being left behind.

....oh you poor candle fans, not able to follow Boise State to the MWC. "I know, let's take cheapshots and try to look superior" FAIL. Not much fun being left behind? Too bad. Nothing you can say will change the facts, the Broncos are moving on to bigger, and bettter things. Now go see if mama can kiss your boo boo.

U/I Needs to find a new rival...

I recommend Idaho State...

Yeah man

The two actual state universities like UA and ASU or CU and CSU or UO and OSU. Anyways isn't Boise some junior college? Why would UI want to degrade themself to playing BSU oh I mean gettin whipped by BSU.
