UPDATED, with the news that conservative activist and former congressional candidate Dennis Mansfield is endorsing Raul Labrador for Congress.
I guess it's the next stage of grieving about news coverage.
First you blame the messenger. Then you use the messenger as a convenient way to try to raise some campaign bucks.
Having moved on in the grieving process, Republican congressional candidate Vaughn Ward sent this status update today to his Facebook followers.
"Over the last few days the liberal media has begun attacking us. Please donate today to ensure the we have the resources to combat these liberal attacks. A $5 dollar donation goes a long way in helping us fight the liberal media."
Talk about liberal use of the word "liberal." So, in Ward's world, is every critic a liberal? Including the brass at the U.S. Marine Corps, which told Ward to pull a campaign ad depicting the Marine major in combat fatigues? And including Valley County, which pointed out that Ward was past due on property taxes before Tuesday, when he paid $434.80 in bills, interest and a penalty?
And in the bad-to-worse department, conservative activist and former congressional candidate Dennis Mansfield has weighed in behind Ward's chief GOP rival, state Rep. Raul Labrador of Eagle.
At his blog, Mansfield said he had planned to remain neutral in the primary.
"The last few days, however, have caused me to revisit that decision. ... I have decided to stop carping about the self-destructive campaign behavior of the former front runner and put my time in a positive direction behind the former underdog."
