BOYS BASKETBALL

Tyson Percifield, Mountain View: The Mavericks were eliminated from the 5A District Three Tournament, but it wasn't because they lacked production from their star junior. In a first-round loss against Vallivue last Tuesday, Percifield led Mountain View with 31 points and four assists. And in an elimination loss against Rocky Mountain on Saturday, he led the team in points (26), rebounds (seven) and assists (six).

GIRLS BASKETBALL (FINAL SELECTION)

Ariah Gonzales, Middleton: The senior scored the winning basket in Middleton's 44-42 victory Saturday against previously unbeaten Bonneville to capture the 4A state tournament, capping a standout performance over three games. She averaged 12.0 points and 7.3 rebounds at state. After the championship game, this is what Gonzales told Statesman sports reporter Rachel Roberts about the rebound and basket that put Middleton ahead for good: "I was like a dog going for a ball. I was like, 'This is mine. There's 30 seconds left, it's now or never. I have to make this.' "

WRESTLING

George Crawford, Rocky Mountain: The senior provided one of only two upsets in fourteen championship matches at the 5A District Three Tournament on Saturday at Borah, and he chalked up the quickest victory. Crawford beat Borah's Justin Armstrong — the No. 1 seed at 130 pounds — in 1 minutes, 18 seconds and improved to 24-7 with the victory. Crawford will attempt to win another championship at the state wrestling tournaments Friday and Saturday in Pocatello's Holt Arena.
