BOYS BASKETBALL
Jordan Thompson, Eagle: The senior sparked a furious comeback Friday that helped Eagle remain atop the 5A SIC standings with a victory against Vallivue. Down 16 at halftime, Thompson scored 13 of his game-high 24 points during the third quarter, helping the Mustangs tie the score 53-53 heading into the fourth. Eagle prevailed 85-83 in double overtime. During his third-quarter scoring binge, Thompson also had two of his game-high six steals, threw down a tomahawk dunk and nailed a 3-pointer. He fouled out in the fourth quarter, but bounced back Saturday night with a team-high 13 points in a 58-47 victory against Boise.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Madison Johnson, Greenleaf: The freshman had a big week as the Grizzlies split a pair of games. In a 66-46 loss against Notus last Tuesday, she scored 18 points and had 14 rebounds, seven assists, six steals and nine blocked shot. In a victory against Idaho City on Saturday, she scored 21 points and added 19 rebounds, seven assists, 11 steals and five blocked shots. Greenleaf opens the 1A Division II District Three tournament against Meadows Valley at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Cambridge.
WRESTLING
Eric Steingruber, Rocky Mountain: The 145-pounder recorded the only championship by a Treasure Valley-based wrestler at the Red Halverson Memorial Invitational at Minico High on Saturday. Steingruber pinned Highland's James Esplin for the championship. He was ranked ninth among all classifications in the most recent IdahoWrestlingNews.com rankings at 145 pounds, while Esplin was ranked seventh.
