Former Broncos Clady, Hall lead WAC's All-Decade team

Former Boise State offensive tackle Ryan Clady led the voting for the WAC's All-Decade team, as conducted by fans online. In order to be considered a player had to appear on at least two all-WAC teams between 2000 and 2009.

Clady got 1,007 votes out of the more than 1,500 cast.

Former Boise State linebacker Korey Hall was the leading vote-getter on defense with 822 votes.

Nine Broncos in all were named to the team, including fan favorites Ian Johnson, Marty Tadman and Daryn Colledge.

Mike Iupati was Idaho's lone selection.

The Broncos are proving to be a good TV draw

Boise State's ESPN games with Oregon, Fresno State, Tulsa and Nevada drew the highest ratings of all WAC games on the ESPN family of networks, according to the league.

The WAC's 12 games on ESPN or ESPN2 averaged a 1.61, the best mark for the league over a single season. Each rating point equals a little less than 1 million households.

Ratings for WAC games

Boise State vs. Oregon, Sept. 3: 2.93

Boise State at Tulsa, Oct. 14: 2.53

Boise State at Fresno State, Sept. 18: 2.43

Boise State vs. Nevada, Nov. 28: 2.15

Fresno State at Wisconsin, Sept. 12: 1.96

Missouri at Nevada, Sept. 25: 1.88

Boise State at Louisiana Tech, Nov. 6: 1.38

Boise State at Utah State, Nov. 21: 1.32

Hawaii at Louisiana Tech, Sept. 30: 0.99

Louisiana Tech at Nevada, Oct. 9: 0.96

Wisconsin at Hawaii, Dec. 5: 0.52

Nevada at San Jose State, Nov. 8: 0.24

Other notes

Boise State was involved in the top four-rated games and six of the top eight.

In eight previous seasons of games on ESPN, the WAC had a total of four regular-season games that garnered a 2.0 rating or better.

The Boise State-Tulsa game was the highest-rated Tuesday or Wednesday game played last year.

The three WAC bowl games shown on ESPN averaged a 2.38 rating.

Boise State's Fiesta Bowl victory against TCU in the Fiesta Bowl drew an 8.23 rating, higher than the Sugar or Orange bowls.

WAC bowls on ESPN

New Mexico Bowl: Fresno State vs. Wyoming, Dec. 19: 2.78

Humanitarian Bowl: Idaho vs. Bowling Green, Dec. 30: 2.39

Hawaii Bowl: Nevada vs. SMU, Dec. 24: 1.97

Not surprising

No slam against any of the other WAC teams, but no other team in our conference has national drawing power like Boise State.

Wisconsin at Nevada, Dec. 5: 0.52

That would have been an interesting game, but it never happened. I believe the actual game should have read:

Wisconsin at Hawaii, Dec. 5: 0.52

Good catch

Has been fixed. — murph

Question for Murphy

Do you have a list of the ratings for all of the Bowl games this season?

No

I'm sure one exists, but I have not seen it. — murph

Too bad.

I ask, because Nielsen is reporting that the Sugar Bowl drew an 8.5, which would put it slightly ahead of the Fiesta.

These numbers are from Nielsen

They disagree a bit with the numbers that Murphy reported:

Here is my source

Good Data

Very interesting data.

There does not appear to be any credible correlation between the amount of fans actually attending the bowl games, and the ranking per viewership.

Another valid reason, for developing virtual 'mini-stadiums' in the future, perhaps?

Wow...

Comparing WAC viewership is like bragging about having the most family members watching an 8th grade swim meet.

I totally agreed with you.

Especially on this one.

Humanitarian Bowl: Idaho vs. Bowling Green, Dec. 30: 2.39. What a joke.
There was no defense and Boise State beat Bowling Green at their place by 35 points.

missing

Hey where is the rating for the BSU/ idaho game?

It wasn't on...

... ESPN or ESPN2. It aired on ESPNU, which means it drew practically no rating at all.

Days of the week???

Murph - how bout mentioning what days of the week those games were on and how many other games they were competing with to get viewers?? Not too hard to get football fans to watch if you are the only football game on. Lewiston Jr. High powderpuff would get a 2.0 on a wednesday night.

BSU v. Oregon - On a thursday. Only other ranked team that played that day was Utah v. Utah state.

BSU v. Tulsa - On a wednesday?? wtf? who plays on a wednesday. Just BSU and tulsa that wednesday.

BSU v. Fresno - On a friday. They were the only game that day.

BSUv. La Tech - On a friday. Only game of the day.

BSU v. Utah State - only ranked team. only 2 other games.

Pay attention

Murphy:
"The Boise State-Tulsa game was the highest-rated Tuesday or Wednesday game played last year."

Pay attention

who plays college football on Tuesday or Wednesday???? again, not hard to win that competition.

Right COT

like the vadies 2:00 on a wed. Dang that divorce court, stealing all the lawyer scum viewers and the unemployed. If you think about it that has to be the UI's main demographic.

Our 2.0 was a bowl game and

Our 2.0 was a bowl game and we weren't bragging about how it was the highest ranking football game of the entire day. I'm sure it was, considering it was the only one. Much like the games above that murph is touting....

COTvandal - Hope to see ya at the Vandal H-Bowl Parade

You gonna go up to the Kibbie and watch the parade through downtown Moscow, starting at 2:00PM and then go to the Kibbie to do some tailgating, drink a few beers, and then go into the Kibie and meet the players and coaches and get some pics of you and them and the Humanitarian Bowl trophy taken, and then see the Vandals get presented the H-Bowl trophy at halftime of the following BBall game in the Cowen Spectrum?

http://www.uidaho.edu/victory.aspx

If so, when you get up there, I'll buy you a beer. Just look for me. I will be wearing Silver and Gold Vandal Gear.

See ya there.

GO VANDALS

COTvandal, I know you are enthralled by all things BSU

Nowhere in the article above or in the comments before yours is it mentioned that any game was the highest ranking football game of the entire day. All it states is that BSU was involved in the highest ranking games for the WAC on ESPN 1 or 2 during the regular season. It isn't surprising seeing that BSU played in half the WAC games on ESPN or ESPN 2 and really were the only team with any national pub for most of the season. Idaho wasn't on ESPN or ESPN 2 until their bowl game and pulled a 2.39 which is good for the Humanitarian bowl and probably the most people to watch a Vandal football game ever. You guys finally had a winning season, try to stop being bitter for a couple months. At least until the Nebraska game.

P.S. BSU plays games on odd days so we can be featured on ESPN. In the WAC, if you are playing all your games on Saturday, it is because ESPN doesn't want you on their network. Have a nice day.

Yes and no...

Yes, if you are in the WAC and playing all your games on Saturday, it is probably because ESPN doesn't want you on their network, though some schools may choose to not disrupt their season with midweek games. However, IF BSU is as big time as everyone believes they are and deserve to be considered for the National Championship game and are beloved throughout the nation, and able to compete against anybody, anytime, anywhere, etc.,etc., etc.....Why does BSU have to agree to these "odd" days to be featured on ESPN and instead get their games televised during more "normal" times? Why don't the other "elite" programs play on "odd" days, such as Alabama, Florida, USC, etc.?

tomellen...

You and Cotvandal are known to bash on the Broncos from time to time. Some of the posts you both make are valid and some are not. The fact that you despise the Broncos however, make most of the things you and cot and monet say, irrelevant.

USC has played games on Thursday night. Virginia Tech NC State and most BCS programs play Thursdays and Fridays and some have played Wednesdays at least once during a season. Boise St, however, does not belong to a BCS Conference, and choose to play on random days to help get exposure for their program. How can you fault Boise St. for that? Next you are going to tell us the U of I doesnt schedule games on ESPN during the week so student-athletes can attend class.

To add that everyone believes BSU is big time shows how really facetious you can be. No Bronco fan calls the program "elite". To be ranked in the Top 25 every year for this past decade is pretty cool though.

Tommie

Ya know - if you switched the words 'normal', 'elite' and 'odd' around with each other - while keeping the basic sentence structure intact - it really changes the meaning of the sentence, tremendously.

Try it. It's fun.

PS - You still here, I gave you the link to the bSU BBall site. Sorta thought you would gravitate over to there. Darn. Guess we're stuck with you.

VNDL

Do you attend any Vandal BBall games? Hopson can flat out play. Love the kid.

JLandon

Nope, not a big regular season BBall fan - only watch college hoops when it gets down to the Sweet 16 - then I'm glued to the TV thru the Final Game, and all over it. I'm probably not a real good Vandal that way. Same with the Vandal Cross County Team. Good bunch of dedicated Vandal athletes, but is a boring sport to watch.

But, I gotta sit on my butt for a couple of hours watching the Idaho - Utah State BBall game at 5:00PM on Saturday 23JAN10, in the Kibbie's Cowen Spectrum in Moscow. The Vandals Football Team is going to get presented the 2009 H-Bowl trophy at halftime of that game.

Tried to get out of it, but some other 'forces' are holding my feet to the fire to be there. I wanted to split the Kibbie, after I get my pic taken with Coach Akey and The Diesel, and Big Mike, and other 2009 Vandal Football Golden Domers, AND the H-Bowl trophy; and then go downtown and drink some manly Vandal beer; but Joe Vandal has other plans for me re: the new Coaching Excellence Fund, I guess.

All of these teams...

... played non-Saturday regular season games this year:

Alabama
Texas
2 x Oregon
4 X Cincinnati
2 X Virginia Tech
2 X Georgia Tech
2 X Miami (FL)
2 X Nebraska
3 X Pittsburgh
2 X Mississippi
Oklahoma State
4 X West Virginia
Clemson
Auburn
Oregon State
5 X Rutgers
2 X South Carolina
2 X Florida State
2 X Missouri
3 X South Florida
North Carolina
Texas A&M
Iowa State
North Carolina State
Illinois
Indiana
2 X Louisville
5 X Colorado

Please don't run em off...

....we will need their jealous/backbiting/petty/bitter commentary next season to add the all important feul to the fire. Question COTvandal: After watching the second Fiesta Bowl win by the hated Broncos, do you need a hug, or Preparation H ?

Blueannelida - Their nervous systems can be magnetized !!

Bluemooner:

From reading your postings, I don't get that you are a 'macroperspective' nor 'big picture' kinda guy. So, I'm gonna boil it down to its bare essentials for ya. If you are going to be cautionary, I would suggest, you use caution to not overly alienate and negatively stereotype, the several thousand folks that were sitting in the Fiesta Bowl stands, who are from Idaho and other states, and went to see the BSU Broncos play and cheer for them, because they are Idahoan Vandals and are proud of a nationally recognized State of Idaho based team.

You and others like you, keep pushing them away and not welcoming them to attend Brocno games, and they might just not go one of these days.

That is a big difference between the Big Boys' Nations and Bronco Nation. You guys are still new to this. They have been around for years and welcome anyone who supports their team for any given game (and they are 'classy' enough to make exceptions for their 'rivalry' teams, as well, and then get on with life after the rivalry game is over). Smack talk is cool during Rivalry Week, but it's been over for almost 2 months now. You ain't no Big Boy Nation yet. What happens if the Broncos ever do lose, even just ONE game to ANYBODY, and are out of BCS National Championship contention. You gonna go away from Bronco Nation, dump 'em like a bad habit, and look at the computer listings of who's in contention to play for a NC, and then join their bandwagon and buy some different Nation's Gear?

Think about it.

Might be hard though; cuz, Annelids have no brains.

VNDL has lost it

Delusional wierd, flat out nuts. Just trying to justify his own split personality. A character from a batman comic. I would love to see the "thousands of vandie fans" at the BSU game. But just like terrorists he is trying to say there are more of him than there are. As for other "Big time nations" respecting thier rivalries, one doesn't need to ask a Duck about what they wish for the beavers or the UW and WSU that they hope they only lose one game all year to the opposite team. Or a yankee about boston, or a raider VS anyone. a true vandie only wishes that captain sully is not on the broncos chartered flight. A true bronco recognizes trash for what it is and wants to take it to the dump or back to the trailer park. Stil VNDL would have you believe of all the rodney king cant we all just get along vandie fans (thousands of them) more than go to the vandies own games.
PS VNDL.... I see you are going to the parade. in northern Idaho....... much has changed since you went to school up there. leave the sheets at home.

I don't get your reference about sheets - you lost me

Tater2:

Are you drunk?

We all know about the secrecy and annonymity

But you should be proud of your parade title. Grand marshal..... or is it wizard?

Just too pathetic - Very Backwards Thinking

Tater2:

It never ceases to amaze me how you can intertwine your twisted racist thinking into your postings.

You friends with Harry Reid by chance?

It appears you reach into the 'racist bag' when you are either drinking or become very angry - is about all I can conclude.

Most of your posts are fun to read.

But every once in a while, you seem to pop off with something having racist undertones.

It is actually quite sad to see you do this to yourself.

Why am I the racist?

When your buddies up north are the ones doing the crimes. I happen to like all races. I just don't like some people....like vandals. Isn't it sad that in idaho you can't even bring up the fact that northern idaho has a reputation without being branded a racist. Perhaps Idaho is more racist than previously feared. perhaps it is a reputation well deserved. Until people of other races feel safe anywhere north of say horseshoe bend then it is is the "great other part of the state" that you always tout that are the racists. How can you not see that one who is bringing attention to the shameful reputation that UI country has is not racism but those that make it that way. Napolitano actually may have this one right.....

Where oh where has Tater2 gone, where oh where can he be?

Tater2:

Your question is - "Why am I the racist?"

My answer is - I dunno, maybe your constant references to 'Rodney King', 'white sheets', wizards, and, etc. Things like that.

As for any response to your 'body of work' in your post I am responding to, all I can add is that you have been taken to task, previously, by other posters on this blog, who have condemned the racial undertones to some of your prior postings.

Possibly, you are just trying to be humorous in your own way, and when you have nothing in your 'laugh bag' you resort to racially themed taunts.

It's time to stop with the racial baiting and provocative tenor.

It isn't funny anymore, Tater2. You can do better. Where is the old funny Tater2. Bring him back.

Im just sayin

If vadies can talk about the "streak" I think it is fair game to talk about some not so prideful moments also. I see, I can't say norther idaho is known for racism but BJC is totally relevant. Look, idaho and in particular northern idaho has some shameful stigmas attached to it. for the shame that a few brought this state we all have to pay. that includes your beloved "idaho that is not part of the treasure valley" The neo nazis are still there still recruiting (probably better than the UI) But you are right, it is probably not the forum or place to discuss such image issues. For that I apologize, but dont ever think I am a racist. I am the opposite. And I hate that people cant even talk about facts or the past without being branded a name that means evil. It is sad though that alabama and mississippi have more racial diversity than idaho. Kind of the elephant in the room so to speak.
But alas, it is such a charged topic for many including me, so perhaps we should move to something more docile. Like football!

Thump - Splat - Fido with Angel's Wings

Tater2:

Then why do you, unilaterally, keep bringing it up, once every so often in your posts, if you don't want to talk about it, and are not a racist?

You are a sly old dog, you are.

I had a sly old dog once. He became blind.

And, got run over.

By a drunk vandie?

Or did he fall out of a window?

Tater2 is funny

"By a little old blue haired lady - drivng a limousine".

(props to Doc Hook)

Had a funeral, my two Pugs were in tears, played taps, drank a manly Vandal beer to his memory, and started shovelin' and fillin' in the hole.

PS - Your post made me smile. Keep up the good humor. You are funny sometimes.

Did that blue haired lady have

an orange hair in the passenger seat. I keep telling my mom not to steal limo's anymore. they have GPS now.

Hey, Potato2

Do you feel as blessed to have the almighty VANAL'S approval ? What would us common folk do with out that blowhard ? Remember, your a racist. What a joke.

Yeah VNDL

is a funny thing. He is pretty sensitive sometimes but he does add some funny stuff. I actually like his posts but he really is a bronco. He just cant see it yet. Like southern democrats cant see that they are really republicans.

VANAL...

You would think somebody sooooo intellectually superior wouldn't bother to post on a Bronco board. Guess we have been wrong for some time now. Your long winded insights in to all things Boise State are neither needed, or wanted. That's what your vanals posting boards are for. I don't know how much crack you have to smoke to think there are many true vanal fans suporting Boise State. I have been fallowing the Broncos for alot of years (been to many Bronco/vanals games, there is NO love lost). Don't worry yourself about my loyalty to Boise State, I took the abuse during the vanals streak. I can handle it. If you can't, it's time you move on. I will still be here when you FINALLY find a vanal board to post on. Leave the true Bronco Nation fans alone. In other words, BEAT IT SCUMBAG.

Bluemonster - This Is Not A Board - This Is A Blog

FACT: The Vandals have a board. It is GoVandals.net

FACT: The Broncos have a board. It is BroncoCountry.net

FACT: The Idaho Statesman has sports blogs, which are open to all to post on. These blogs are not specifically intended for only Vandals or Broncos to post on.

FACT: You are not the owner of the Idaho Statesman.

RECOMMENDATION: If you don't like my posts, then don't read them.

Just what we need.....

...vanals trying to post "facts". If your so in love with trying to correct people. Why not save it for your vanal pals ? I am sure they would be delighted to read your condescending drivel.
Here is a FACT for you, all important one: I will NEVER stop riding the vanals. If they (or you) do not like it, they can go to Goanals.net and cry. I know enough of the history of Boise State, and the vanals to post on this "blog" for a longtime. The rivalry wiill NEVER be PC no matter what you, or anyone else says.
If you don't like what you read here, (and your constantly trying to correct people), then why not go away ? Ask yourself this: Why am I posting on a Bronco "blog" when I am a vanal ? Am I really SOOOOO full of myself, that it's necessary ? Lastly, do you see us posting on the vanals board ? Get a clue, stop crying, or get the hell out of the sandbox.

Bluemonster - Any Comments?

Bluemonster: You have made your point - you hate Vandals. Got it. You believe Brondcos are good and Vandals are bad. Got that too. Okay, time to move on. I don't like to repeat myself at the risk of being redundant. But sometimes, some people just don't seem to understand what they read the first time through, it appears as you are one of them. So to the end of getting you to comprehend what I am saying:

Having fun?

Vanal is more of a Bronco fan than most people on here. He is a graduate of BSU and Idaho. He loves college football. When he gets windy, just page down, but you won't find a more dedicated Bronco fan around. Just not the week of the Idaho game, which is fine. Where were you when he almost single handidly got BSU athletics to donate 500 fiesta tickets to the military? Only a person who cares about BSU and keeping their integrity would have done that. I don't remember you on here beating on Bduck, Marcygirl, Omilkey and others with sound BSU stats and comebacks. And, I have worked with the guy and seen that he is indeed very smart and educated. Try handling the logistics of moving 400 men and women, a hundred vehicles and trailers and all the material to support them for a month over 1500 miles by rail and having it arrive and offloaded to the minute and the mission success on your shoulders.

Hes got a fever, and the only cure is more cow bell.

Facts and Truth...

After further review here's a few Facts...

Fact: Very few people stay posting after BSU's football season is over.

Fact: BSU for the forseeable future will be a huge force in WAC sports.

Fact: The state of Idaho has the only two teams in the WAC to win their bowl games

Now the truth...

Truth: I remember a large number of you UofI fans talking trash about the, "Truck Stop Bowl." That you are all now proudly Champions of. So which is it? Is it a lame bowl or not?

Truth: I like Vanal. I don't always agree with his take. I also don't like how he can get personal with insults and gets mad when you give it back but over all I think his a good guy.

Truth: NO matter how strong BSU is as a team. We will never really be in the NC hunt. Not now, not ever...
