Where should Boise State be ranked to start the 2010 season?
Could the Broncos be preseason No. 1?
The 2009 college football season just ended, but it's not too early to start talking about 2010. National college football writers are throwing out their way-too-early predictions for the 2010 season.
Boise State is faring quite well.
ESPN.com's Pat Forde makes the case for Boise State starting the 2010 season at at No. 1.
Pete Thamel of The New York Times puts the Broncos at at No. 2.
ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach has the Broncos at No. 3.
That's a lot of national love for Boise State.

With the way the system is right now and the...
pressure to keep it changing, I would rank BSU #1 for next year. It is very likely they will go undefeated again next year. They will likely get past Virginia Tech and then it is an easy ride to another undefeated season. Therefore, they will likely climb to #1 in the rankings. And with the changes in other big programs (i.e., Florida, Texas, Alabama, etc. BSU will have the definite advantage in going undefeated.
To say it is "likely"...
is a huge statement. I personally think it will be very difficult for them to go undefeated next year. Could they? Sure! but I think the chances are less than 50%. If they can get the win against the Beavs nd Hokies, then the rest of the schedule is very manageable, but the more undefeated season they have, the tougher it gets.
There are teams in the WAC who have one goal....Beat Boise State. That is the main goal for many of the WAC teams, and may be why they fail so miserably at times, because their focus is in the wrong direction. Make no mistake though, every team in the WAC targets Boise State and the target is growing every year. The larger it gets, the easier it is to hit it.
Number 1???? Give me a
Number 1???? Give me a break! What are you guys in Idaho smoking?? The rest of the civilized world is still upset that BSU was even ranked in the top 10 due to the total joke of a schedule they played. If BSU played any SEC conference school it would big a HUGE blowout as BSU is no where close to the caliber of school in the SEC. And please don't throw that worn out excuse that the SEC doesn't want to play BSU as it is really old. No one wants to be seen on that incredibly ugly smurf field as it looks ridiculous. And what is this about the changes with other schools in 2010? Where did you get that from?? Alabama is going to even be stronger as Mark Ingram (Heisman winner) is only a sophomore. McElroy (quarterback) is only a junior and the majority of the team will be back not to mention Alabama has been the top recruiting school for football the past two years. Whatever number BSU is ranked in 2010 they will drop drastically after playing Virginia Tech which is the only real school BSU has played recently. I'm glad you are playing a real school with a real football team as it show you guys what the rest of the country already knows about BSU. Lastly, was the halftime show a joke? That is nerdist group of people I have EVER seen that you call a band. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hFA0XTByeo).
You are
so right. Now have fun on your date with your cousin tonight.
You're letting them date others?

Dearest Timmy? Can you spell............
......... U - T - A - H ??? I do believe that was the last 'joke' of a team Alabama danced all over. Am I right?
Why do you set such unrealistic expectations?
Could Broncos be preseason No. 1? NO. One ESPN announcer does not a No.1 team make. Why do Bronco fans torture themselves like this?
Because....
We can. Why do you care?
We care...
because the higher we start the more likely we can maybe make the Title game, if and only if, all other things fall into place. Its not torture. Its exciting. The fans can think about great things thats why we are fans.
Tomellen I dont get you. Do you play Devils Advocate or what?
It's torture doing this 24/7/365. Wait until JULY...
We aren't fighting in Afghanistan and they have to be #1 every day. You folks actually STRIP the fun out of it and make it harder to get back in later.
We don't need soccer momism in Bronco Sports.

Good point! If you start at
Good point! If you start at #1 or #2 and then play a schedule that is a glorified high school schedule and beat all the high schools, you can stayed rated high even though real schools play real schools. Great logic!
Because I'm a Bronco and I'm sick of people whining about
being ranked number 4...or those who will whine when we aren't ranked number 1 next year. How about focusing on the amazing acheivement of a school like Boise State to be in the top 5?
not a chance at #1
How could you possibly think that BSU is a better program than Alabama?
BSU will be no higher than 3rd and probably ranked 5th at the beginning of next season. BOOK IT.
TheEnd
Are you talking about the AL we saw last night or the one Utah trashed last year. The SEC is way over rated from what I saw this year and also the Big 10/12. I would look for a high rating but would rather be snubbed by the BCS again. Gotta love that chip.
They were the same team
The Alabama that was embarassed by Utah should be embarassed by their underwhelming victory over Texas. A Freshman QB almost dismantled the Tide D, so they have nothing to brag about. And their offense? Impotent. With the exception of the 2nd quarter and scoring twice against a deflated defense, Alabama looked worse than Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.
The final score was 37-21
The final score was 37-21 and could have easily been 51-21. Alabama is a class school that doesn't run up the score nor does it play a schedule that is 99% of schools that are basically high schools. And you guys need to get over the Alabama-Utah game which was over a year ago. Do we need to go back and bring up all the SEC schools since 2000 that have totally destroyed BSU????
The final score didn't reflect the nature of the game
Take away the pathetic shuttle pass INT at the end of the 1st half and the late TD that Bama padded the score with instead of taking a knee and the score is only 23-21.
Bama was unable to take command of the game even though Texas was suffering through a "what else could go wrong" type of game. Texas outgained Bama in overall yardage, despite losing McCoy.
To answer your question in regards to " do we need to go back and bring up all the SEC schools that have totally destroyed BSU since 2000?"
The answer would be YES!
Please list ALL the SEC teams that destroyed BSU since 2000
Then why do
we still hear about the one-man meltdown at Georgia four years ago? So Boise State losing at Georgia in September 2005 is still relevant and an indication of Boise State's program, but Alabama getting dominated by Utah twelve months ago isn't? How about the fact the Mighty Tide of the Invincible SEC lost AT HOME to Louisiana-Monroe in 2007? Oh, that's not relevant either. Only a single game in 2005 matters.
I think BSU should be ranked #2 or #3
Kyle Wilson will be missed, but he's basically the only starter that won't be around next season, and because of that, I think BSU will be ranked pretty high, but then again, that's based on logic, which seems to be something that most voters don't have, so who knows where they'll be ranked, it could be #2 or it could be #20, we'll just have to wait and see

"How could you possibly think that BSU is a better program than Alabama?"
DID YOU READ THE ARTICLE?????????????
Top 5 but sure to climb
Preseason #1? No way. But there will also be a lot of shuffling in the rankings between BCS teams as they beat each other up, so it is VERY likely that BSU can finish the regular season #1 or #2 if they remain undefeated. Unlike this year, when teams like TCU and Cinn leap frogged over them in the rankings, they will have acquired too much respect next year to be leap frogged by any but the most dominant teams.
Ranked number 1 in 2010?
Ranked number 1 in 2010? No, not interested. Why would you want to lose that chip we all wear on our shoulders?
Ha! Good point!
.
You don't want number one ranking!
Why on earth would you want to be ranked number one going into the season? Crazy! Disrespect is BSU greatest motivation! Why take it away? If you vote in the poll Murph put the Broncos at number 25 just to balanced out that blue kool aid drinkin Cripe. He'll have them number one.
LOL
I agree, however, if BSU ever made it to the #1 ranking, you'd better believe that the disrespect meter would be off the charts.
well...
they do have to prepare for the two Rogers brothers at Oregon State and they are are very tough so I would say OSU is going to be a very tough team to beat and VT is also a real team but other than that they will probably be fine. Is the strength of schedule strong enough to rank #1? Doubt it but if they stay the course the following year is fairly feasible
Trust the Truth on the one:
Oregon State will come into Bronco stadium next year with their hair on fire. When you consider that they were inches from winning the Pac 10 and a Rose Bowl birth, you've got to respect the Bev's just as much -- if not more -- than VT.
Oregon State????
It is the University of Oregon ....not Oregon State! You guys don't even know the names of the other schools!!
DIM
WIT
Yep...We play OSU next year and not U of O
It appears that the Ducks are content on not messing with the Broncos anymore.
BSU doesn't play play the University of Oregon next season. They play Oregon State
tim, you are stupid
you are seriously one of, if not the, dumbest people to post on this board. we play oregon state, not oregon. your claim that any sec school would destroy boise state is hardly worth disputing but i will since i am here. vanderbilt, tennessee, kentucky, miss state, south carolina, lsu & georgia were all so weak this year, none of them could have placed first in any fbs conference. what is with the multiples of question marks on your postings? one will suffice clod.
Ladies and Gents
I give you the SEC! Through a time machine we go back to a time with no ryme or reason. Of racism, of a place where instead of teacher to student ratios they have tooth to dentist ratios. A land of Tims.
Heres the deal bubba.... Keep it up, keep thinking BSU is a joke... We actually like it. We feed off of it, we liked it when we were a junior college, then a 4 year then a National champion, then a d1 school then wac champions, then BCS bowl champions. We did all of that since the time your daddy was getting off to burt reynolds in deliverence. We look forward to people saying we cant hang with the big boys. But the reality is that the worst thing Bama could do is schedule BSU. Keep thinking we are nothing to worry about......... We like it.
Remember Timmy uysing the public library computer is not "tech savey, and Alabama losing to Utah with basically the same team they had this year is not worthy of you to start talking trash. Roll Tide! Yeah right, come up to the blue in december and see how the men do it.
Where I would rank them
And where they end up are two different questions. I would put them one or two. But judging by the # 4 ranking to end the season. We will be lucky to be in the top 5. But should at lest be in the top ten.
If Pete Carroll goes to the Seahawks.....here we go again!
Rumor has it that the Seahawks are targeting Pete Carroll to replace the fired Jim Mora. (they should have fired him weeks ago) The LA blogs already have Chris Petersen hired as the new man at USC. SC would be one of 4 or 5 programs that are considered 'elite' ... which scares me a bit. But.......he has 21 of 22 back and a real shot to be VERY successful next year.
Hopefully Carroll doesn't have a burning desire to return to the NFL but there are also rumors that USC could be facing probation from the NCAA for violations (R. Bush, McKnight's new Landrover, etc.). So who knows. Maybe the guy likes rain.
Word I hear
is Riley from Oregon State has the inside track. The surprising thing is the lack of panic on the USC admin side. They seem to almost want Carroll out the door. I wonder if this NCAA violation stuff is getting ready to hit the fan.
I'm not worried about Coach Pete's interest in USC, but should Riley take the USC job, I could see some appeal to coach Pete with the Oregon State job.
Coach Pete won't leave...
1)he just agreed to a 5 year extention (though the State Board of Education is going to catch some heat when they approve his new contract as well as the assistant coaches and then pass on severe cutbacks in all other departments) and 2)he has a goldmine here and he knows it. He would be a fool to leave and enter a situation where it will be far more difficult to maintain such a level of success. He is here to stay. At least until the State Board doesn't approve one of his contracts (which will never happen).
cannot imagine
a scenario that would entice coach petersen to leave boise state for a pac 10 program. we have pummeled the best the pac 10 has to offer and our prospects for 2010 are certainly brighter than those of any pac 10 team. after kellen graduates, we may have something to worry about. but i suspect that may hinge on what happens here between now & then.
Bronco81
You are dead on about Pete not leaving for a Pac 10 school. And no worries after Kellen finally graduates. Ive seen Southwick practice and I really think he will be very good. Different from Kellen but very impressive.
The buyout on Coach Pete's 5-year brand new deal would be sick.
Do any of you football moms out there pay freaking attention? You're like a disease, babble babble babble on.

Lol, the BCS??
I think BSU should be at #2. However I think we will be very lucky to be in the top 5. Come on people we are talking about the most crooked company in the world. They will vote for who gives them the most MONEY. And that will not be BSU. The BCS could care less who the best team is. And most BCS fans are brain-washed.
MURPHY.............
At rate the Statesman is cancelling subs...............
Will YOU have a job next year.............
WILL YOU?
Is anything a certainty and dare you spout and snub lest you be in the target hairs of disaster?
There will be no redirections.

Where will The Statesman be
Where will The Statesman be rated next year compared to The New York Times? Well, we do have Murphy coming back. Enough said.
I don't want to see Boise State #1 either
Not yet, at least. I'd like to see them at #3 or #4, then work their way up. I just hope the Broncos keep their intensity and dont pull off games like in Georgia (2005) and Washington (2007). If they keep from getting arrogant, this could be their year. Of course, we'll need to start winning convincingly. I'm really glad we had resolved our center/QB snapping issues by the end of the season.
Oregonian
On the front page of the Oregonian sports section, an article stating the BSU deserves a shot at the title. If you want that, they will have to start out in the top three and hope someone ahead of them gets beat. This year, with Floriday returning all the coaches, most of their starters, Heisman dude (what was his name?) They were a shoe in at number one. BSU is doing all of that next year, except a Heisman dude and ranked in top 5, they should be a pre-season favorite. Side note; any bets on what round that Heisman dude will be drafted?
