It's not like I like taking pictures of myself. But sometimes "myself" is all I have until the real person comes.
In these photos, I am working on a photo for a story about Nancy Phelps, who ran a marathon in each of our 50 states. Hence the t-shirts — 50 of them (more or less; they didn't end up all fitting). The logistics of executing the photo were more complicated than taking the photo itself. These self-timed photos were my way of checking if my idea was working — one never knows if an "idea" can be converted to reality. Read about the real Nancy on Dec. 27 in Life.
