Boise State football coach Chris Petersen plans to make the Broncos’ bowl practices short, efficient and effective.
“We’re not going to go out there and just go through the motions,” he said. “We’re not going to have these long, drawn-out practices where people are stale and worn out and those types of things. We’re really racking our brains as coaches to put together the perfect bowl practices.”
The Broncos plan to practice about a half-dozen times before breaking for the holiday on Christmas Eve. They will practice Saturday but will be off most of next week for finals. The players will report to Arizona on Dec. 28 — one day earlier than the Fiesta Bowl requirement.
The Broncos will have four full game-plan practices and one day off in Arizona.
The last two years, the Broncos lost pre-Christmas bowls with condensed preparations. In 2006, they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl with more time to prepare.
“Everybody jumps up and down about the extra bowl time you get with your guys, it’s like another spring football,” Petersen said. “I think that’s a great thing but I think if it’s not done wisely it can be a bad thing. These kids work their tails off year-round. … We just really want to be smart with this where we are getting better but it’s not drudgery.”
The coaches use the off-time during the week to recruit. They already have six commitments, more than enough to fill their expected openings for signing day in February.
The coaches will check in on the committed players and begin doing research on players for the 2011 signing class.
“We’ll be out and about pretty intensively,” Petersen said. “The signing date is not for a while.”

Petersen was joking earlier this week when he said on the radio that injured wide receiver Austin Pettis was running routes. Pettis continues to make progress, Petersen said. Pettis is questionable with a lower-leg fracture.

Petersen would like to use Green Bay Packers fullback Korey Hall and offensive lineman Daryn Colledge in some way during Fiesta Bowl week. They'll be in town for the Packers-Cardinals game Jan. 3 — the day before the Fiesta Bowl.
"I'd really like to use them during the game," Petersen said, "but we might take the next-best option, which might be a speech or two."

more sound planning
by coach petersen. looking forward to the game, a good time and a victory.
Really can't justify cost of Fiesta Bowl
As much as I would like to travel to Glendale, AZ. The cost of 2 ppl attending is well over $1000 which translates into clothes, food and presents for the kids. I just can't selfishly go for the sake of myself.
Pete sounds
Like he is in a good mood. Could bode well. Go broncos! dang it feels good to be a bronco.
It's good to be a Bronco!
It's good to be a Bronco and have your own way.
Get a feeling of peace at the end of the day.
And when your bulldog barks and your canary sings.
You're out there with winners, yeah, it's good to be Kings!!
Actualy, Tom Petty said that....kinda.
Or in a more
Badaz version.... Dam it feels good to be a bronco.
BSU
BSU 45
TCU 27
Points??
You giving 18 Apache???
I might have to take some of that action.....
Considering last year...
4.5 to 2.7,
or rounded,
5 to 3,
might be more accurate.
As long as Broncos finish on top.
I often disagree with his game plan, play selection, etc.....
but I greatly admire how he gets the Broncos ready to play tough teams. He gets due credit for the win-loss record and little credit for the methods he and his staff use to get the team ready. Never under estimate Coach Pete's ability to prepare for any opponent. I won't be surprised if TCU gets whipped big time.
BluePhan
Sorry about that baffling and nonsensical post earlier. Omikey was drunk... not really. Well maybe a little.
never mind
I thought you wrote "bowel prep".
Butt, for the record, we all want a better prep.
Seevee, are you tucked in your pad, medicated?

like that's a bad thing?
n/t
That still leaves a completely tangential query!
How does the BSU janitorial staff prep a bowl?

Start by digging out the tar. But save it, and add it to the
homegrown stuff so it's a little more potent...
Commits
I show only 5 commits for this years recruiting class. Am I missing someone.
You're missing
grayshirt Bryant Thomas, who joins the team in January after signing last February. If the stories out of Australia are true, Nick Vlad is also joining the team in January as a scholarship athlete. If so, three of the new guys will have to grayshirt or some scholarship players will have to leave the team, since there are 81 scholarship players scheduled to return next year. If Matt Miller chooses Boise State, then a fourth player will have to leave or grayshirt.
5 Commits won't help any smokers but aren't most back in '10?
