Pre-Game
A story from WAC commissioner Karl Benson, who is in Logan for tonight's game:
Benson said 13-year-old Trevor Majdalani of Toledo, Ohio, proudly wore his Boise State gear to school on Friday — in the middle of Ohio State-Michigan country.
Majdalani, who attended the Boise State-Bowling Green game this fall, became a Bronco fan on Jan. 1, 2007 — the day the Broncos stunned Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.
Benson wondered (and it is a good question): How many other 13-year-olds around the country have become Boise State fans in the past few years thanks to the Fiesta Bowl win and the constant exposure on ESPN?
Mountain West commissioner talks Boise State, expansion
Mountain West Conference commissioner Craig Thompson again outlined the criteria for adding Boise State to the nine-team league during an interview with a Salt Lake City radio station this week.
"That would be the criteria, if they help us with our BCS automatic qualification endeavor," Thompson said in response to a question about adding the Broncos.
Thompson quickly followed up: "I would guess here, I might be wrong, Boise State is not going to go 12-0 in the Mountain West every year."
Listen to the whole interview here. It is a pretty insightful interview.
Thompson said one of the toughest decisions about going to 10 teams would involve scheduling philosophy. Would the league go to a Pac-10 round-robin style or a Big Ten scheduling plan where teams do not play every other team in the league each season.
Thompson also dismissed rumors that the league was considering expanding to 12 teams.
"Why after a decade would we go back to divisional play when you’re not paying your next door neighbor?" Thompson said, referencing the league's decision to split from the WAC in 1998.

Forget the MWC
It's not that big of an upgrade from the WAC. Better teams all around and more prestige in the eye of the college football landscape, I'll give you that. But given the crappy TV deal and the fact that it really does nothing in respect to improving BSU's recruiting (I mean, the WAC and MWC pretty much reside in similar areas of the country)... what else does it offer? BSU is getting plenty of sniffs from the big bowls playing in the abysmal WAC.
I'm not going to say something ridiculous like hold out for a better conference... because I doubt that will ever happen. I just don't see a move to MWC as big a deal as everyone else.
I also agree with the commish... BSU would not go 12-0 all the time in the MWC. They would definitely drop games here and there. I think they could be competitive and be vying for the MWC championship year in and year out, though.
if it makes the mwc
an aq, it would be worth it. it would obliterate most, not all, of the whiners on sos and an undefeated team in that conference could play for the nc.
What?
BSU would not go undefeated in the MWC!? Could Bronco Nation even handle that?
Wow. What a buzz kill.
True Blue!!!
What?
You are clueless.
a loss is not
the end. we would still rule.
PAC 10 is the place the Broncos need to be.
MW would almost be like staying in WAC.
Unlike the WAC...
The MWC has more than one ranked team.
Really, name them.
? Awesome game!
named them
Utah, TCU if that is what you were looking for?
It's over, so I'll bet they were looking for the remote control!

class act
Going on 4th and 2 with 1:30 left in the red zone only to take a knee after getting the first down was a class act coach! Congrats Broncos!
bsu sucks
I am a boise resident and I will never attend another game you could have kicked a field goal on that 4th down when it was 45 to 21 instead of adding another touchdown show some class especially against confrence opponents dont go to other confrences levels I hope you go to the humanitarian bowl where you belong after that game we all knew you were better than usu you didnt need to show them up all I can say is trash trashy trasy. good job way to lose a fan coach pete hope you leave bsu.
Oh Dannyboy
There was 9 minutes left when they did that, still too much time to give any team...ANY TEAM DANNY! After all we scored 21 points in a 5 minutes period; it would be very pretentious to think no one else could! In the words of Dan Hawkins, "IT'S DIVISION ONE FOOTBALL".
Oh well, one more ticket for someone else, a bandwagoner falls off so quickly? A real fan sticks with team through thick or thin Danny! Keep that in mind when you find another team to join!
YO! Remember the high school "mercy rule"?
Go hunt a wolf or something, get the bloodthirstiness out of you.

Just exactly what we don't need.......
......danny001 you, and who ever agrees with that crapola that you spew need a labotomy ! It never ceases to amaze me the number of dorks who get on these boards thinking they know how to coach better then Petersen. Take all the Boise State haters with you, and go jump off a cliff ! The coaching Staff at Boise State has done a wonderful job doing things the right way. You second guessing them means, SQUAT- NOTHING. Good riddance to you pal.
Danny
Did you see them take a knee at the goal line with 30 some seconds left? Or had you already left to go spout off about your superior morals and sportsmanship? Oh, thats right, you never played a sport in your life. Well, of course, there was that speed 10-key tourny right?
