The Boise State athletic department has created a non-profit corporation — Boise State Broncos Inc. — and will sell shares for $100, athletic director Gene Bleymaier announced Wednesday.
Shareholders receive a certificate and can vote on board members at an annual meeting. They do not receive any dividends and the stock doesn't appreciate. The purchase is tax-deductible.
The money will be used to help Boise State expand facilities, Bleymaier said. The idea came from the Green Bay Packers.
"What we're appealing to, much like the Packers, is the passion — the passion of our supporters," Bleymaier said. "... For us to compete at the level we are now and stay at this level, it's going to take passion on the part of this community."
Boise State Broncos Inc. has 12 board members who are the inner circle of donors, people whom Bleymaier and president Bob Kustra have relied on for advice and financial support in the past. The 12 are: Jon Miller (CEO), Jerry Caven, Jerry Dancer, Allen Dykman, Rich Fedrizzi, Allen Noble, Duane Stueckle, Milford Terrell, David Turnbull, George Wade, Larry Williams and Charles Wilson. They will help sell the stock and continue to advise Boise State on the best uses for the money.
Boise State already has sold more than 1,200 shares, Bleymaier said. Most of those went to board members.
The first money generated by the stock sale will go to three major capital projects — the new locker rooms for the basketball teams (the project is $300,000 short), the new track facility at the old East Junior High and the south end zone addition to Bronco Stadium, a project that will include improvements to the football facilities.
The initial offering is $20 million — 200,000 shares — but more will be made available if those sell out.
The money won’t be used for the athletic department’s annual budget. However, Bleymaier hopes using the stock sale for facilities will free up some money in his budget to handle rising costs.
“We have a set of athletic teams and programs here that are phenomenal by national standards,” Miller said. “As it keeps progressing, we’re getting into circumstances where we’re scrambling harder and harder to hang on. … We’ve got to find better ways to raise some serious ongoing money.”
The board members are all volunteers. The program will be run largely out of the Bronco Athletic Association, so the costs are negligible, Bleymaier said.
The stock can be purchased through the BAA (426-3556). It will be available at broncosports.com on Thursday.
The Packers stock sales have been similar to what Boise State is doing. Those shareholders — 112,120 — technically own a piece of the franchise, but they receive no dividends and if the franchise is ever sold the proceeds would go to the Packers foundation.
Like Boise State's plan, Packers shareholders receive a certificate and can vote on the board of directors. That board selects the people who run the team.
Here's more information on the Packers' shareholder history.

Speaking of rising costs, USA Today’s report on coach salaries revealed today that Boise State has the highest-paid football assistant coaches at any non-BCS school that reported salaries.
Boise State’s assistants make more than some BCS schools, including Colorado and California.
Boise State’s assistants average $175,239 per year, according to the report. That’s 39th among the 98 FBS schools that reported salaries.
Coordinators Justin Wilcox and Bryan Harsin make about $225,000.

Boise State tailback Doug Martin drew the ire of the Vandals last year when he hammered the Idaho logo at midfield in the Kibbie Dome right before the game. Martin was carrying the Hammer he won for the biggest hit on special teams the previous week.
That incident hasn’t been forgotten in the Broncos locker room.
“Coach (Chris Petersen) will never let me live that down,” Martin said. “He wants to make it known that is not what you’re supposed to do.”
Martin said the Broncos will be well-behaved this year. The Vandals, on the other hand, might have a little pre-game revenge on their minds.
“They probably will,” Martin said. “I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Warm-ups usually are tense in a rivalry game like this. Martin said the Broncos need to keep their emotions in check.
“We all have to hold our composure and just mind our own business, just focus on the game,” he said.

Release the Haters
OHHHHHHH, the haters are going to hate this one to hate land!
This is going to be fun to watch!

My boy bronco81 and I will give. This is how you generate cash for your program...CASH. You know vandals, the green stuff that you say you all have and Bronco fans dont? The stuff that actually builds facilities improves recruiting and HELPS a team be continually in the TOP 25. Oh wait I know, you guys are going to lure recruits based on your academic excellence and brick buildings from 1910.
Let’s take the wind out of
Let’s take the wind out of for some of you haters!
1. Play a tougher schedule
2. Playing high school teams doesn’t count
3. You are not a top ten team
4. Stop reliving the Fiesta bowl
5. What are you going to do when coach Pete leaves
6. Opi Gomez was a Vandal
7. Play a real team
8. I’m so glad athletics is more important than education
9. Will they be in charge of truck driving too
10. You can’t even sell out all your home games
Now try to come up with an original post without using cut and paste!
Join the Pac 10
11. Join the PAC 10
Not an option
Pac10 already answered the expansion question this year- even Utah and BYU aren't close to being invited.
The school doesn't qualify, and won't in 100 years.
You've already been rejected by the Mountain West.
You might start by supporting your basketball team.
Collegefan
You are off by 12 years, please feel free to take a tour of the campus sometime and find out how close we really are. Automatically people judge the academics program before really taking a close look it. Typical poster reflex, no biggie I do the same with pot smokers and cyclist.
denial
OK- why don't you tell me the Pac10 requirements for educational institutions and athletics before you make the idiotic statement of joining. You are not invited, and are not going to be invited. Period, end of story. Maybe you also might comment on your lack of selling out a stadium that would be the smallest in the Pac10, even during your recent string of victories.
Don't worry, there is professional help available for people in denial, probably by someone who graduated from soewhere else.
CollegeFan is illiterate
Maybe you should seriously "think" of attending college instead of being just a fan. They might even "teach" (if that's possible) you how to spell if they provide you with a 24/7 special tutor. Then "maybe" when you have an education, someone "might" begin to listen to your incoherent chatter. You must be from one of those BCS schools with Tradition behind them. That tradition is the year in year out rip-off of the collegiate football programs by funneling $$$ to "Traditional" conference programs that are losing big-time this year. (HINT! New Tradition!) We know how the big schools paid for their stadiums? To say the traditional BCS schools are in each other's back pocket would be the understatement of the century!
Speaking of Coming up With An Original Post....
So what team do you think fits the criteria you list? I would bet that the team you like isn't anywhere near say the top 50 and you are jealous of what Boise State does each year. Go home...cry and hope your alumni can write enough checks so the transition back to the Big Sky is as painless as possible.
Original, hell! Just one that doesn't hurt to stare at and...
try to comprehend. A lot of eyestrain here...

Answer to you posting
1. We can't because the big boys are chickens
2. High schools don't want to do the home and home thing
3. Last time I checked we where in the top 10
4. We'll stop reliving that when The Fighting Irish stop living on their tradition to get bowl games. really how long has it been since they where any good?
5. Call John Madden to step in and we'll really win then
6. Opi Gomez is who?
7. We played Oregon twice beat em, Oregon State four times beat em, Oklahoma once beat em, Mississippi State beat em. Should I go on.
8. So when was the last time you guys packed a stadium to watch people study? I thought so.
9. Not sure what this truck driving thing is about but you Vandies will love playing in the Truck stop bowl this year. Free hotdogs with ever ticket.
10. If tickets didn't cost 55 bucks a ticket we would sell out ever game. Can't help it that Vandy women are to scarried to show up to watch a better team.
Way to go Ironman!
Nice job Ironman!
#6 Opi Gomez was a local dog who ended up on the obituary page by accident and created a s@#1 storm of editorials. I threw that one in there for trivia!
Opi Pwned the site. Snoop Dogg never could do it but a real dog?

please do expand on no. 7
oh wait, you can't...
other teams Boise State has beaten
Fresno State, Nevada, Tulsa, Hawaii, UTEP, TCU, Utah, BYU, Colorado State, Virginia, Marshall, Louisville, and the list goes on. The only reason why nobody mentions those- the ONLY reason- is because people dismiss those teams with the same circular logic as Boise State.
I can't count how many people, including those who have never even said the words "Boise State" in a sentence, including coaches, hall of famers, journalists, and the President have tried to make it abundantly clear that tradition does not make a team great. You don't think Boise State could beat Michigan now? Or Miami? Or even Notre Dame? Yet all of those teams have been ranked this year purely because people really, really want them to be ranked.
BCS teams who have better players, more money, and a larger fan base lose to teams like Boise State (see: Oregon) because they believe all the hype that they were born better. Even after they lose, they convince themselves that the loss didn't count. Meanwhile teams like Fresno State, Nevada, Boise State, TCU, and others sack up and walk into every game believing the other team is capable of winning, and that's why the other team doesn't.
So keep on relying on your 1920s-mentality rap sheet. We'll keep you in mind from the bleachers of the Sugar Bowl while you spend your New Years sleeping in.
BCS schools Ignore Facts
BCS colleges will always SCREAM we have a weak schedule! The "BCS Trolls" will always ignore the FACT that that the Oregon Ducks LOST twice. (for the BCS Trolls benefit, that was 2 consecutive losses in a row.) Last time I checked, Oregon like Oklahoma is a BCS team! We have to realize they (BCS teams) are AFRAID to sign on the dotted line. NO BCS SCHOOL is willing to follow the path of Oklahoma and Oregon. None of them want to fall to Utah, TCU or BSU. The truth is, sooner or later they will have to play BETTER Non-BCS teams. When they do, "they will" follow Oklahoma's lead onto a Non-BCS school's tally sheet. IN THE LOSER's COLUMN.
TCU
It's funny to me how TCU is considered a "non-BCS" team beacuse they were a member of the southwest conference with Texas, Oklahoma etc. for many years before that conference was reworked. Houston and Rice were also in that conference.
On the 'weak schedule' issue....
...there is 'some' merit to those who are critical. The weak schedule is a result of the conference BSU is presently a part of and they can do nothing about it. But....having said that, it appears that at least the University President Kustra is well aware of the fact that the Broncos must schedule BCS teams for non-con games. Why else would the Pres. have to bonus the AD for doing so? (I still just don't get that bonus -- for doing his job?)
But...let's be honest here. I'm a Pac-Ten grad (Washington) and when I moved to Boise ten + years ago, I'll admit that I laughed at the BSU die hards thinking they had a program that could compete week in and week out with BCS programs. Since, I have been convinced that indeed BSU can compete. They've proven to me that they are one of the better programs in the west, if not the country. The Oregon wins were quite significant. The first one was in Eugene, where the visiting team rarely wins. The second game (last year) was against one of the fastest teams in college football and also was a win against the eventual Pac-Ten champions. NOBODY can discount those wins one little bit. Oklahoma? That was flat out the best college football game I've seen in my lifetime. Yes, it was close -- but as they say, it's a win. TCU was a great team last year ... just ask all the other teams that played them without beating them.
BSU football is for real. They have a head coach that is frankly one of the best in the nation. They know who to recruit and how to develop players. This year the BSU schedule is decent...not great but decent. If they weren't in the WAC, the schedule would be very good. But they are in the WAC so the pressure is on to win those non-con games -- and this year it's real pressure because of the potential rewards at the end of the season.
BSU is clearly a Pac-Ten caliber program. Would they win the Pac-Ten every year....no. But they would compete every year for sure.
Take it from a fan who at one time didn't believe and now does -- BSU is one of the outstanding college football programs in the country.
I agree with...
#1, #2, #3, #4, #7, and #10, but the rest are kind of lame and in regard to #5, Coach Pete won't leave. He is too smart. He knows he has a good thing here, his chances at success are far greater here than at the schools that can pay him the "big" bucks, and his job security is FAR greater here than at those other schools. Also, he is the most powerful man in the state, which likely would not happen if he moves. He would be a fool to go and it does not appear that he is a fool. Oh, and #11) the Mountain West still wouldn't be a BCS conference even if BSU joins.
#6.
You mean they are a dead dog? Sounds about right.

U of I is usually one of the lowest ranked opponents on the Broncos schedule. But until you go back to the Big Sky where you belong we are force to play you.

andiegee sez: " . . .we are force to play you . . ."
No you're not - you could always just forfeit - we'd understand.
After this year, we won't be one of your lowest ranked opponents for next year - St. Gertrude's Home School Academy for Wayward Girls of the Night - might be though.
I heard they really bleed for their team and their moniker is the 'Moody Menstruals' and their mascot looks like a large tampon on steroids.
sound logic, there
Broncos Fan: "Boise State is a consistently ranked team with national respect, while Idaho is in the bottom of the division 9 years out of 10."
Vandals Fan: "You're a girl! NEENER NEENER!"
I can see why U of I's law school doles out such spectacular talent with argument skills like that.
No cut and paste here
patmac1: From your post - the Broncos should stop playing high school teams because it doesn't count. I guess Saturday's game doesn't count by your definition.
speechless
I don't even know where to start. patmac you are right. and HOW did i know that Jlandon would be the first one to waste his money on this??? If it sells out for $20 million...it proved how stupid boise is. I hope they realize that stock in a real corporation increases in price depending on how much companies earn...being that this company earns $0, they are relying on the stock appreciating right? OK...why would it appreciate? what rights do you have? the right to vote on a board of directors? congrats. Seriously, buyers of this are retarded. If you are going to waste your money, at least get the tax write off and just contribute the money. Don't buy something you can't write off....
Hmmm
Dude why do you vandals always cry? If this was a vandal idea you would be telling us how cool it is. You babies better do something and quick! You guys have NO CASH! You have a junk of a stadium which would be decent if it was only your actual indoor practice facility... You have no basketball arena and no real plans for expansion. You are remodeling while the Broncos are building! Times are changing. Better hold a cupcake sale vandies. That would pay for some febreze!
worthless.
We would never think of this idea because we would never screw our fans into buying something that's completely worthless. You know why it worked for the pack? because they aren't governed by ncaa and they aren't a state run isntitution. What "changes" can you make with voting the board of directors in?? It's all pre-set. BSU is preying on its fan's STUPIDITY!! It's hillarious. All you are doing is funding a university football team. DO IT AS A CONTRIBUTION! Write it off! then the government subsidizes it for you. And I think Akey has shown that we don't need cash to win. And we have plenty of cash. Lets not get into an Endowment fight. You will lose. Billy bob the truck driver and the ceo of a failing micron can't stand up to alums that were ceo at boeing and Deloitte. The cash is there.
I do give as a Contribution
And Ill give some here. The Bronco fans will give a little bit to this out of loyalty to the Bronco Nation. Something you vandals always claim you have more than.
And COT wheres the cash? You have nothing. You play your hoops in your crappy dome or at a local High School.
The cash isn't just in
The cash isn't just in football. They are remodeling the dome though. Our facilities will come as we get better. Did i ever say we have better facilities? How about you fill your seats before you add more? You've only sold out the oregon game. Our $$$ is in the $25 million business building. 100% private donations. $30 Idaho Commons. $20 million Living and Learning Center. Good luck on turning that hotel into a business building though. Your students can practice scrubbing lots of toilets at least.
We get 32k for football
How many do you guys get for football games? Your institution is dying. The few proud ones can try to talk smack but the bottom line is theres nothing going on up there. Boise is the future. Research Engineering Nursing and Football. Sorry to burst your bubble but its over. Dont feel so envious tho. Embrace it. You guys are like the dinosaurs. Soon to be extinct.
???
Is the Idaho Water Center for sale? Maybe we can turn that for you too?
That belongs to private parties in NAMPA & for the Stampede!

So Cot what if this is U of I in three years doing the same? Then are Vadaholians just as stupid, or it is stupid because BSU has the clout to pull it off? If you don’t believe me, take a tour of the sky boxes and look at the price tag that people are paying. And way to go calling cheese heads the R word, their doing it already.

UI won't do it. read my above post. We won't screw our fans into giving a non-deductible contribution. We'll just ask for the money. The broncos are preying on your ignorance. And there's a lot to prey on.
U of I plans on their own stock plan.
Too late, the U of I has announced they too will be selling stock for the Vandull football team. It will cost 100 crushed beer cans. Only 99 if you can prove that the cans were crushed while you personally held onto them while falling out of a sorority or fraternity room window.
An IPO for the Broncos?
Further evidence that college football is all about money, BSU included. This seems like a step in the wrong direction, I'm surprised the NCAA will allow this.

Dude, that was number 8! Try again!
Breaking News!
Idaho Vandolls will buy all of the shares up for sale.
The Horse Of Troy
Vandals buying into the Donko share pyramid scheme - not a bad idea.
I understand it will be a non-profit corporation (it's gotta be incorporated per Idaho Code corporation law to be legal).
Under Idaho Code, the establishment of a non-profit corporation requires by-laws, corporate officers, a registered agent, annual shareholder meetings, recorded minutes of meetings, election of members of a Board of Directors, meetings of the Board of Directors, decisions and votes by Board Members on important corporation matters, and etc.
Wow, we Vandals could have an absolute field day with this one. Oh, Sweet Jesus.
And, of course, the shares could not be denied to any person based on descrimination of any type. No, no, no. How the hell could BSU not sell a share(s) to a Vandal, With all the lawyers in Idaho that are Vandals, the first time BSU refused to sell a Vandal a share, Vandals around the state of Idaho could file a class action civil tort (discrimination) against the non-profit corporation (which would of course have to be backed by some sort of indemnity - I am guessing the BSU Foundation). This suit of course would be a discrimination suit and would, in all liklihood be filed in U.S. Federal court in Boise. Essentially, a Federal civil rights type action/remedy thingy. Possibly, move toward an out-of-court settlement via mediation (drooling now).
Christ this is too good to be true.
I am going to be a test case, and find out how I can get one of those $100.00 shares. And pray I am denied. Man, I am about to wet myself.
This is a gift to a Vandal from Odin.
Assuming, I am not discriminated by the Donkos and I can buy-into their club and I get my share of stock and other Vandals can buy-in, too - the next step is for us to load the corporation membership roll with Vandals and elect Vandals to the Board of Directors.
We as Vandals have big bucks - disposable cash. Cigar lighting stuff. Butt wiping paper.
I hope I can buy more than just 1 share. I hope this corporation has been established with a voting schema of '1 vote for each share', and not '1 vote for each shareholder'.
Got a little research project to do, I can see that (note to self - have a staff meeting first thing tommorow morning, RE: Hostile Takeover of Donko, Inc.).
This could be great news for Vandals, if it is structured like I think it is.
More to come . . . . much more . . .
Goodbye limited liability
Yes, please take over the board and divert the treasury to anything but the purpose of providing calital support for BSU athletics. Ever heard of a shareholder derivative suit? Ultra vires? Loss of limited liability protection? Venue will be in Boise. It will be a jury trial. I will own your house and your kids when judgment's entered.

Point # 1. What the hell is a 'calital'? My Webster's don't know. My Blacks's don't know. West's don't know. Lexus don't know - and Nexus neither. Even, Wikipedia don't know (note to self - get a Vandal clerk to Shepardize 'calital' - maybe something there - got to be thorough - due diligence and all).
Point # 2. Yeah, I heerd uv em - sew wut?
Point # 3. 'Ultra vires'. Is that anything like the Mega Virus called Crotch Rot that Donkos get when they stop off in Sparks, to see their floozy cousins at the Mustang (got to admit though, some of em are kinda hot), when they go to play the Pack in Reno?
Point # 4. Venue would not be in Boise, you bucktooth Donkey faced moron. It would be in Spokane. It's not where the corporation is - it's where the plaintiffs are (note to self - call a lot of old Vandies living up North and get em on board so we can make a side trip to the Kon Tiki Gentlemen's Club in Stateline when we file in Spokane).
Point# 5. Jury trial my a#^. Bench trial at most, assuming you make it out of Summary Judgement and/or arbitraion hasn't ocurred - chances are about 95% against you on that one.
Point # 6. Sort of like M.C, Hammer's hit - 'Can't touch this!'. I am pretty much judgement proof at this time, thank you kindly. You wouldn't want my house anyway. You'd have to buy a Garmin to navigate inside. AND RE: my kids. You can have em. They are in (I should say 'at' because they don't attend class much) school in Moscow. One is 46 - 17 years and 493 credits so far, undergrad in the Phuc Ewe Donko frat and the other has been there 14 years (Beeta Bronk Donk house) trying to develop a motionless beer pong set that he can market one day. You can have em, and all the damn bar tabs, tuition fees, bookstore Vandal Gear, paternity test invoices, and other financial dependency nightmares that go along with em.
Good day to you, Sir !!
