Akey hopes to disappoint rest of WAC; Boise State-Nevada to kick off at 8:08 p.m.

Idaho coach Robb Akey knows the rest of the WAC will be rooting for Boise State when the Vandals and Broncos meet Saturday.
"I want to be the least popular individual with all the WAC administrators after we get done on Saturday," Akey said, "because if we take care of business there's not going to be a BCS bowl for Boise State and there won't be any BCS money for the conference."
The Vandals are coming off a loss to Fresno State. They also have lost 10 straight to Boise State.
"It's time to start a new (winning) streak," Akey said. "And the beautiful thing about starting a new streak here is that it's going to start a new streak with the rivalry as well. And that's a streak that needs to get broken."
Later, Akey elaborated.
"It needs to be turned back into a rival game," he said. "I know I'm not supposed to say things like that because I'm supposed to pay homage to Boise State and we're not supposed to even line up. In fact it was suggested by some people that we just treat this like a bye week and don't bother to even go play the game because we can't touch them.
"But we're going to be there. Kickoff is at 1:30 and we're going to get there around 11:30 so we make sure they can't start without us. We're going to pin our ears back and get after it and we're going to have a great time with this ball game."

Akey said starting quarterback Nate Enderle will be a game-time decision. Enderle didn't play last week against Fresno State. He has a shoulder injury.

The Boise State-Nevada football game, which could decide the WAC title, will kick off 8:08 p.m. Nov. 27 at Bronco Stadium. The game is slated for ESPN2. The time had not been announced.
"Of course we'd rather have it earlier in the day," WAC commissioner Karl Benson said. "That's one of ESPN's windows that they have dedicated to us. And we're at ESPN's control on that."

Boise State defensive end Shea McClellin is questionable this week with an arm injury, coach Chris Petersen said. Petersen said the Broncos are hopeful McClellin will play.
Nickel Winston Venable, who left the Louisiana Tech game, is fine, Petersen said. He had a cut.

The average score in the last ten years is 50-19. This game the Broncos are favored by 29 as of today. Thats more than four touchdowns. Way to be humble Akey. You are about to be humbled.

And what did Coach Akey say that makes you label him a hick? He's brought exuberance to a program that had none. Obviously you've never seen Coach Akey as he supported his players through good and bad and has brought them to the point where they do believe in themselves and their ability to win. 2-10 to 7-3 hardly defines you as a hick and loudmouthed. He never said anything derogatory about the Broncos nor any other opponent.

what a ranter you are. like Akey or not it is obvious that he is very passionate about coaching and loves encouraging and motivating his team. I don't know the man but I can't help but like him based on watching his interaction with his players. Wildly different style than coach Pete.....whom I also respect. Cut Akey some slack......he is bringing the Vandals up from the bottom just the way you Bronco fans have been clamoring for them to do. It will be a closer game than you think.....hoping Enderle can play....I always hope for each team to bring their 'A' game....cuts down on excuses afterwords.

I think Akey is a good motivator and has his team playing up. I do think he has his players attention. I was commenting on his PR abilities and class. I dont think anyone is saying for the vandals to take a "bye week" or he "must pay homage to Boise State." So hes being facetious or hes playing to you vandal homers in thinking you are all disrespected because of the Top 10 Broncos. Like I said, do you hear Coach Pete saying these things?

I am proud member of the BRONCO NATION,,, but devil his due,, AKEY is the man. He exudes confidence, he loves football and loves his team. The Vandals are not good enough to hang for four quarters with the Broncos, but Akey will have his guys roarin and ready for a fight on the Blue. Go BRONCOS!

Akey your team just got exposed for the middle of the pack team you are. You have skated by on luck in about 3 or 4 games this year. You easily could have a losing record now. If your team takes care of business they will still lose. The Broncos will have to make some serious mistakes, interceptions, fumbles etc to lose.

They shouldn't come to Boise if they aren't going for the win. I'll say this, even when there was almost no chance they could win against Freson, they didn't give up. They played their hearts out until the final seconds. I respect them for that.
That said, I'm afraid this isn't the year to start your winning streak. Go Broncos!

Seems to me all of you forget how BSU was the laughing stock of the country. I can remember when the Broncos were pathetic at best so why bash Idaho for trying to get their program turned around? Every Vandal fan I know roots for BSU except one game. Give the guys up north a break!! I strongly believe Akey is having a little fun and nothing personal towards players, coaches, or fans.

Thats very interesting lame...and its even funny. But also wrong. I have vandal buddies who hope every week the Broncos drop their game. They text and call when the Broncos cant score in the red zone. They gnaw and grind their teeth when the Broncos are mentioned anytime anywhere. I also met numerous vandals who wore Oregon Duck gear to Bronco tailgates for the game on Sept 3rd.
Its cool if you said that we all are from the State of Idaho and should support each other. I wouldnt agree cus there is too much bad blood, but at least you would make a thoughtful post. But to say every vandal you know roots for the Broncos except 1 game is either a blatant lie or you dont get out of the basement much.

There is nothing to forget. Going back to 1968, Boise State experienced four losing seasons. They were in 1992, 93, and 1996, 97. Four out of 31 years. Nice try at blowing hot air. When you have a DECADE of losing such as Idaho in the 21st century, *THAT* is pathetic.

Don't get me wrong, I like Akey. I think he's done great things for the program and the morale of the team and fans. But I only know one Vandal fan (and I know plenty) who ever roots for Boise State. The others can barely be civil when the subject of Boise State comes up...and the only reason they are civil to me (and they often aren't) is because I'm married to a Vandal. Vandals have a lot of hatred for BSU...especially those who were around when Idaho used to repeatedly beat BSU.

I like Rob Akey and his attitude. He believes in their program and their program is learning to win games. Are they middle of the road, sure, but that's a far cry from the bottom of the pack where they've been for years. He's turning the program around and that's a step in the right direction. The better the Vandals and the rest of the WAC, it's all the better for the overall credibility of the skill level of the conference.
What should he be saying? "We're headed to Boise to take a dive?" C'mon people, he's a coach of a football team and wants to win, as he should...

you make a point, however in your selective choices of years to look at scores you left out the 1980s and 90s. Any reason why? Also, as horrible as Idaho is throughout their history BSU has a very small lead in the head to head matchup against Idaho and only has that very small lead by winning the past 10 games. So if Idaho is that pathetic and has been throughout their history and BSU has only four losing seasons throughout their history (as mentioned on another post) and an overall winning record, top 20 finishes, etc. etc. etc. how is it they have barely over a .500 record against Idaho?

Pull out the old film when chris tormey ran a fake punt when Idaho was up by 50 points and Pokey Allen was near death on the sideline in 1996. Let the Boise State players understand what Idaho is all about......watching this film will put the Boise State players in the right frame of mind come Saturday!

I just came up with a way better idea...
The broncos could just pull up the video of the last nine years and watch themselves run up the score on Idaho, and just imagine they're the Vandals. That could work, and seems a lot easier than having to dig back to 1996.
