Statesman endorsement scorecard
The scorecard from Tuesday's city elections: Statesman-endorsed candidates won seven of 12 races across the Valley.
The Statesman editorial board endorsed victorious candidates Vern Bisterfeldt, Maryanne Jordan and TJ Thomson for Boise City Council; Tom Dale for Nampa mayor; Pam White, Nampa City Council; Keith Bird, Meridian City Council; and Richard Cardoza, Kuna City Council.
The track record on bond issues was 1-for-2. The Statesman opposed the Star golf course bond, which failed, and supported the Canyon County jail bond, which also was voted down.
The scorecard is always kind of a post-election reality check for me. Endorsements are not intended to predict the outcome of races; our editorial board tries to select the candidate we believe is best suited for office. So it's interesting for us to compare our endorsements — in this case, an 8-for-14 scorecard — with the vote.

Statesman endorses incumbents
Statesman Endorsed Candidates LOST 5 of 12 races.

So if I have this right, 10 of the 12 Statesman endorsements were incumbents.
Odds are, NEXT election The Statesman will endorse over 80% of the incumbents. Thats' my bet.
The only time an incumbent doesn't get an endorsement is if they have some serious baggage.

1 Boise Council- newcomer/mayor protege
1 Nampa Mayor- incumbent
1 Nampa Council- 1 incumbent
1 Meridian Council- incumbent
1 Kuna Council
6 of the 7 endorsement are incumbents. Let's bump it up
to7 given TJ is so much like the encumbent Mayor.
