Capital-Mountain View playoff football live blog (FINAL, Nov. 6)
9:11 p.m. — FINAL: Capital 38, Mountain View 13
9:03 p.m. — Capital 38, Mountain View 13: The Eagles appear to be on their way to the state semifinals. Running back Charlie McMartin scored on fourth-and-one with a 54-yard touchdown run up the middle with 4:34 remaining in the game.
9:02 p.m. — The winner of this game will host Highland next week. The Rams beat Idaho Falls 34-26 at Holt Arena tonight.
8:57 p.m. — Capital 31, Mountain View 13: The Mavericks made the score more respectable with a 23-yard touchdown reception by Devante Crump, but the extra point attempt was blocked. The ensuing onside kick was recovered by Capital.
8:47 p.m. — Capital 31, Mountain View 7: Capital quarterback Jeremy Powers threw a lateral to Kyle Sosnowski, who threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Michael Howard, giving the Eagles a 24-point lead with 11:22 remaining in the game. The lateral actually appeared to be a forward pass from the press box, but the referees didn't see it that way. A break for Capital.
8:44 p.m. — End of third quarter: Capital 24, Mountain View 7
8:34 p.m. — Capital 24, Mountain View 7: Capital is beginning to pull away after a shaky start. Kyle Sosnowski caught a 12-yard pass for a touchdown from quarterback Jeremy Powers with 3:38 remaining in the third quarter. The drive was set up by a turnover on downs. Capital stopped Mountain View on fourth-and-two at the Eagles' 33-yard line with 7:33 left in the quarter.
8:10 p.m. — SCORE UPDATE: Halftime: Eagle 21, Rocky Mountain 7; Bishop Kelly 7, Blackfoot 0
8 p.m. — Halftime: Capital 17, Mountain View 7
Capital kicker Eric Niblett made up for a missed field goal on his team's opening drive with a 13-yard TD run in the first quarter and a 43-yard field goal with 5 seconds left in the half. The long field-goal attempt was set up when first-half standout Kasen Covington intercepted a pass by Mountain View quarterback Tyson Percifield at the 32-yard line with 12 seconds on the second-quarter clock. Capital quarterback Jeremy Powers ran for six yards on the first play and Niblett nailed the field goal that would have been good from about 55 yards.
Covington also had two kickoff returns for 162 yards in the first half, including one that covered 99 yards for a touchdown that gave his team a 14-7 lead.
Mountain View was led in the first half by running back Michael Ho-Lewis, who has 15 carries for 97 yards.
7:34 p.m. — Capital 14, Mountain View 7: It didn't take long for Capital to regain the lead as defensive back Kasen Covington returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown 14 seconds after the Mavericks tied the score. Covington also returned the opening kickoff 63 yards, but the Eagles failed to score. 10:27 remains in the first half.
7:31 p.m. — Mountain View 7, Capital 7: Mountain View quarterback Tyson Percifield threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to running back Daniel McSurdy to cap a 72-yard drive that tied the score with 10:41 remaining in the second quarter.
7:28 p.m. — End of first quarter: Capital 7, Mountain View 0
7:22 p.m. — Capital 7, Mountain View 0: Capital kicker Eric Niblett missed a 24-yard field goal attempt on his team's first drive, but responded with a 13-yard TD run on the next drive to put the Eagles ahead with 3:07 remaining in the first quarter.
