WAC commissioner says high-profile teams turned down Broncos; Moore sixth in Heisman Watch; AP voters address Oregon debate

WAC commissioner Karl Benson said Tuesday that several high-profile programs have turned down a chance to play a home game against Boise State in 2011.
Boise State — with help from ESPN, Benson said — has been shopping for a game to fill out its 2011 schedule.
Benson wasn't sure of the exact number of schools that had said no, but figured it was close to 10. The Broncos weren't asking for any games in Boise in return, he said.
"They're running into a situation where nobody will schedule them, nobody will take them," Benson said.
Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier was not available for comment.
The Broncos have seven home games and five road games scheduled for 2011 but don't have a BCS-conference opponent. Bleymaier wants to add a BCS road game as the 13th game to fix that hole. The other opponents in 2011 are Utah, Tulsa and Wyoming in Boise and Toledo on the road.
Benson also said the WAC has hired an Idaho public relations firm to do some research and arrange media interviews to help push Boise State's BCS case. The WAC also hired a public-relations firm to push for Hawaii's inclusion in 2007, he said.
"We're trying to establish a message," Benson said.

Boise State senior cornerback Kyle Wilson has been named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes to the nation's top defensive back. Wilson is among 12 semifinalists.

Boise State sophomore quarterback Kellen Moore slipped one spot this week to sixth in ESPN.com's Heisman Watch, a poll of 15 ESPN writers and analysts.
However, Moore picked up a second first-place vote. Last week, Pat Forde was the only panelist who had Moore in the top spot. Forde explains his ballot, which still has Moore on top, on this week's Heisman Watch.
Moore leads the nation in pass efficiency, touchdown-to-interception ratio and touchdown percentage. He's second in touchdown passes to Houston's Case Keenum, who passed Moore for fifth. Keenum took over the TD lead Saturday.
Moore improved to sixth in the HeismanPundit.com poll, which surveys a small group of Heisman voters. He was tied for eighth last week.
He dropped to ninth in the ESPN.com Heisman Predictor standings. He was seventh last week.

John Hunt of The Oregonian polled AP voters this week on the question of whether they would move Oregon ahead of Boise State despite the Broncos' decisive win in the season opener. He found quite a few voters willing to at least consider giving the Ducks the nod.
Here's his story and the quotes from voters.
It's worth noting that one of the AP voting guidelines says: "Pay attention to head-to-head results."
Earlier this week, Brian Murphy wrote about the voters who gave Oregon the edge this week.

Good for him I am happy,
Good for him I am happy, however I wonder what would happen if the young man had to face teams that were in a real conference or even teams that were ranked???? When you are the best JV QB in the state its hard to compare yourself to the varsity squad. Very athletic kid, but should not be compared to likes of the canidates that have to earn it week in and week out.
Hang on Rodney....
Here it comes... hang on. You are about to be branded. Let's see will it be "Bronco Hater" "BCS Lover" "Idiot" "Various Restroom Graffiti" I can't wait to see. Good luck.
Moore
If he played in a bcs conference maybe he'd have a bcs OLine and get halfway
decent protection. As of now it's all his skill that is keeping him off the operating
table. The guy could play anywhere IMO.
BSU Real from line....
Isn't it strange that BSU has produced two pro bowl offline men? That the Denver Broncos are so dependent of a BSU player... Patrick someone, to be a corner stone on their line... WOW really strange.
Ryan Clady? Can't think of
Ryan Clady? Can't think of a Patrick.
when?
The only BSU offensive linemen in the league right now are Clady and Colledge, but I don't think either has made a pro bowl yet. Clady should've been in it last season, but it didn't happen. Not sure about a Patrick.
True
And where are they now? I'm talking this year mr thin skin.
Let's see Denver is undefeated.... I think...
At least the last time I watched football they where
They got hammered last week
To the Ravens
Very athletic kid? Where
Very athletic kid? Where did you get that? That is probably one of his biggest weaknesses, is his lack of atheleticism and size. What he excels at is accuracy, poise, knowing where to step and exactly when to throw and who to throw to and his knowlege of football. I believe eventually he will be called the John Stockton of quarterbacks. John was better than anyone else at knowing exactly when to dribble, when to pass and when to shoot. This was his greatest strength. If Moore gets better as a junior and senior he will be amazing and may even have a shot at the NFL despite his size and inability to throw the ball like a rocket. Obviously, his statistics would be lower if he was playing in a tougher leaque. However he has looked pretty darn good against Oregon the last two years and they are a top 20 team both years. IMO he would be a top 5 or 10 quarterback no matter what leaque he was playing in. The coaches don't say a lot about him because they don't want him to get a big head or to quit working hard to improve. However, they must be amazed and dumbfounded as I am sure they have never seen anything like him, except may in the NFL after a few years of quarterbacking. This is because of his dad being a coach, his training and experience as a quarterback from a very young age, and being a student of the game and being obsessed with football and getting better. They said when he was in high school he could step in and run the west coast offense for any pro team because he had studied it more than most pro quarterbacks. He is probably a couple years ahead of most college quarterbacks as a sophmore. If he can keep improving watch out as he may eventually win the Heisman or be considered the best quarterback in the country.
Ouch
Feel sorry for Rodney and Omikey...they just got...PUNKED!!
Gee rodney, what a well
Gee rodney,
what a well thought out post. I mean if he had faced that tough schedule of Florida and tebow this year, just think what would have happened. Or of coarse Texas has played some great schools every week , how would he compare to their quarter back.
You fool what teams are you talking about that have played tough teams every week. is it Florida playing Charleston-southern, Mississippi state or Kentucky. They have played one team that is still ranked.
Or maybe it is Texas who played Louisiana-Monroe, Wyoming, Colorado, or three loss Oklahoma.
Do you idiots even look at other schedules before you talk about how tough they are.
And if I remember last year the so called experts on espn were all talking about how the oregon defensive backs
were some of the best in the nation, Moore has made them look like fools.
I'm not saying he is the best, but please try to come up with something original for once.
So tell me who has earned it week in and week out, tell me who that fantasy team is so I can look at there schedule.
Kellen Moore is for real - a big time quarterback!
Kellen Moore has proven to be a potential (yes, potential) All-American. All this Heisman talk is a bit premature IMO. Why is Moore so good? He's football smart. Period. No he's not 6-4 230 lbs but the last time I looked neither is Drew Brees. I think Ryan Leaf was that 6-4 guy. Right? Brees is the one guy that Moore reminds me of. His football IQ is off the charts. Let's all remember that Moore played his high school football at a small high school in Washington. Lots of colleges probably looked at him but as with most players from small high schools, it was hard to judge him when he played against teams with few D-1 prospects. Remember that Chris Petersen had to be talked into taking the kid!! His did is a high school coach and Kellen grew up learning the game since he jumped out of the crib! He has spent years learning everything about the game, watching film and visualizing himself playing the game. That's what makes him great and sets him far ahead of your 'average college quarterback' ... wait till the guy is a senior! No he does run the 40 real well and he looks like he's right out of Mayberry and could be the 'Huck Finn' of college football but the kid can flat out play the game! I love to watch him play! Isn't that what it's all about?
hmmm
rodney and omikey are so predictable. Of course, tougher games would affect his percentages, but he would adjust, and have more talent in recievers. I think it would even out and he would be about the same. However, I don't agree with Rodney about the athleticism. Moore runs a 40 in less than a day. If he could run just a little, he would be truly amazing.
Interesting that a different
Interesting that a different college didn't pick him up. Many other colleges just look at size or running ability and forget the rest. It's another reason why BSU is so strong. They don't focus on junk like that. They focus on the entire package. Can this player play? That is all they are worried about.
Come on Rodney or omkey,
Come on Rodney or omkey,
Give me those schools that earn it week in and week out. Not just schools that you think should be good, in a conference that should be strong.
Me?
I have nothing to do with this. leave me out of it.
Mikey
Why try and hide now? You stir the pot every day AND you get on here every day AND yet you are not a Bronco fan. Pretty crazy that Bronco fans have to defend themselves against fools like you when they should be talking about things amongst themselves. Why playing La Tech there is so tough etc.... Aslo, you are always bagging on the Broncos schedule. It seems teams dont want to play the Broncos. Maybe your Oregon Ducks can tell us why...or you?
Money and Football and Voter Polls
Actually Rodney & Omkey are simply using the same logic that most of the voters in the national polls use. It is self serving logic handicapped in favor of the old established conferences. All BSU or Moore can ever do is win their games, which they have done so far. SOS or level of competition makes a less of a difference on the big conference schools because it is automatically assumed that every team in the conference is a good team. Teams like Vandy, Miss St and Kentucky are assumed to be good because they are in the SEC. The selection to the BCS bowl as long as you don't drop more than two games a season is more about money than team competition. BSU could win out this year and next, it probably won't make a difference. A two loss Ohio State team will bring in a larger gate and that is all that matter to the decision maker. If the best QB in the solar system played for BSU, the voters would ignore him and choose a much less talented candidate from a big conference. The MWC bolstered by BSU's membership might be able to get on the inside of the golden egg and join the party.
fraidy cats
Those teams who refuse to play BSU are just afraid of them.
BSU has the best coach and team in college football.
Moore is a class act, I can't imagine anyone being better than him.
Clady is awesome with the Denver Broncos. anyone who doesn't believe that is nuts!!!
It makes me sick how BSU is being treated in college football circles.
Clint
Growing pains?
At least you tied Back To The Future III and a sitcom together.

Moore's 40 time not relevant
This running the 40 "in less than a day" quote is getting a little old. I believe Moore was timed in 4.89 seconds this year which is OK considering that another quarterback by the name of Tom Brady ran his 40 in over 5 seconds at the combine coming out of college.
I agree frank, other than
I agree frank, other than using the word logic. I know what you mean, just the word logic seems to good of a word to use in the same sentence with the name rodney in it.
USC
Maybe they are the team that "earns it week in and week out". Well....except for those weeks like.....San Jose State. And do those weeks that they lose count as earning it. Like Washington and Oregon? So if BSU was in a "real" conference, but they lost every week, then it would be okay to vote for Moore? Oh, but then again if you have those stats its hard to lose. I'm confused Rodney. Please enlighten me on the fairness of how the Heisman is selected. While you're at it, enlighten us all about how being BCS makes it a real conference? Is that why Alabama tore up Utah last year? Because they are in a real conf and Utah isn't?
Public Relations Firm
I say the WAC should buy some air time or seek out the national radio shows on ESPN and put the names out there of the teams that don't want to play BSU. If BSU is going to get so much flack for a weak schedule, the teams that refuse to play us at thier house should be taking some flack as well!
what a surprise that other schools
don't have the footballs to schedule us. hats off to oregon even though they will probably refuse to schedule us again after back to back beatings. this is further fodder for the case of getting out of the wac. apache thank you for making a great point again. when a non bcs school beats a bcs school it is luck or a fluke. when we don't play them we're told we would get flogged if we did play them.
honesty is a good policy
"Before we get to the voters, consider the plight of the Broncos. Boise State is the only team to outplay and outcoach Oregon this year. The 19-8 win by the Broncos on Sept. 3 will be remembered for the mayhem afterward, but that overshadowed the damage Boise State did in the previous three hours. The margin of victory was 11 points, but this was a thorough beating." this is from the above referenced article. john hunt writes for the oregonian. bduck(aka fumbduck) and the other duck fans/bronco haters should read it if they are able.
Nooooooowah!
You guys just not get it. No one over here in the promised land are Bronco haters. Peterson is a former Duck. This is the deal... it's the fans.... the fans, you guys... the ones reading this now. We think you guys are a bunch of pin head yahoos from Weeezer and Beeuual and Keyuna. What's a Kuna? Your football team is great, no doubt. They beat the Ducks... but never again.
Jlandon, this guy has to be from Buhl.
Never again
Is that never again, as in what the fans claimed after BSU beat Oregon in 2008, or truly never again? I'm confused? Personally I go by results, and after BSU beat Oregon in 2008, they came back and dominated them again in 2009. And I guarantee that Oregon is not jumping at the chance to play BSU again, so maybe that's what you mean by "Never Again".
They beat the Ducks...but never again?????
It seems we heard this last year as well and guess what...it happened again! The pin head fans? The only pin heads I see are the Oregon Duck fans who feel compelled to voice their ignorance and try to defend their losses on websites for Bronco fans! I would assume that the only way we will get a chance to see you again would be in a bowl game if you do not win the PAC 10 and go to the rose bowl.
We did not give the Broncos the pre season ranking that we were given, but we can support a team in a non BCS conference that cannot get most schools to schedule us as they have nothing to gain from it and everything to lose! It is amazing that the Ducks are ranked as high as they are by getting punked back to back years by such an overated team as BSU right? We have heard it all and it is getting a little old. Aren't there any Ducks fan web sites that you guys can cry with on all of this?
Pathetic...
Haven't you learned
Omikey to never say never. Of all Oregon Duck fans on this site I wouldn't think you would say that. Rack my balls Rack Em like BSU racked Oregon 2 times and counting.
Hey bluphan
I had a bad day. I'll be better tomorrow. Sorry to all you people from Weiser Buhl and Kuna.
...but not JLandon.
Spelling
You got the spelling right of the towns in Idaho. Sorry about your bad day, I have them also and no one is immune to it. On the bright side you don't have to wait until saturday to see your favorite team play...um least I don't. Good luck to your Ducks this weekend. Stanford is no pushover team.
Mikey
Why bag on the good people of Buhl? All you Ducks have insecurity issues huh? And his name is Petersen, with an "e". Kinda like how you kept calling Kirk Herbstreit.... "Kurt". Too funny. Id say your bad days are like bad weeks.
Never again?----quackers wont schedule BSU--hahaha
Quackers will follow suit with the other so-called--(bigboys--to risky
If they take BSU to lightly and not give them the respect, you
"weakminded" bloats will LOSE..................
I'm on the Highway To Buhl and I'm going down--All the way!

evidence of the strong english program
at waterfowl u. oregon tight end ed dickson speaking of the felon ligarette. “He doesn’t really go out no more,” Dickson said. “He’s always at home. I’d be like, ‘Where you at?’ And he’d be like, ‘I was at home with the little man.’ That’s smart of him. I think he’s settled down. He’s ready to play again.” double negatives and ending a sentence with a preposition. although, in his defense, he is probably not required to actually attend classes.
At home with the little man?
At home with the little man? Is the little man a euphemism for ... uh ... The Little Man?
Blount...
... recently became a father. I think "the little man" he is referring to is his son.
Correct. His son.
But then Lillyboy wouldn't have what he thinks is a yuck yuck joke.

BCS schools
The only way BS U is ever going to get proper respect as a football program is to kiss some Pac-10 butt for a few years and beg the Pac-10 to change it's name to Pac-12 to include BS U and maybe TCU or UTah. but the academics need to be seriously upgraded for the Pac-10 to even consider.
Screw
PAC 10 schools. Combine the best from the WAC and MWC and make another power conference that makes the PAC a joke.
Call
it DIC(Defenders of Injustice Conference) then other teams can get smacked around by teams from the DIC.
Probably will never
Probably will never happen...but could you imagine the T shirts?
"U gonna get DIC Whipped!"

Academics?
I've said it before. BSU's wrestling team is already in the Pac-10. It does not sound like academics is the issue here. I think it might be more closely aligned with the information in the article - who gains from playing BSU? If you win, you have proven nothing in the pin headed minds of the media, and if you lose? Wow. Start the bus and just get out of town now. I love the idea one guy had to get some airtime or advertising and rat out those weenie schools who won't play us anywhere! That alone should get us a BCS game this year! SERIOUSLY!
GO BRONCOS!
U of O Blount return
I'm over in Portland and Fresno State had a hard time getting folks to play them too. It is rumored over here that Blount may return to play against Stanford this week-end. Oregon has done well without him, so I don't understand why they would want to bring the trash back in. I just hope the Broncos get a Bowl Game they deserve, how about LSU? I think they need a WAC lesson. Lorca
