Louisiana Tech has some significant injury issues going into Friday’s home game against No. 5 Boise State.
The Bulldogs lost tailback Daniel Porter (concussion) and wide receiver Phillip Livas (ankle) last week at Idaho. Their statuses probably won’t be known until game day, coach Derek Dooley said Monday.
Linebacker and leading tackler Adrien Cole (concussion) missed the Idaho game and his status is uncertain.
Porter and Livas were All-WAC first-teamers last year — Porter at running back and Livas as a returner. Livas also is a wide receiver and running threat.
Porter averages 80 rushing yards per game and 5.2 yards per carry. He has seven rushing touchdowns.
Livas averages 11.6 yards per carry, 10.8 yards per catch, 30.2 yards per kickoff return (with a TD) and 24.8 yards per punt return (with a TD).
“He is a special player and they are very smart because they’re not only going to get him the ball in the return game, they’ll do whatever they need to do on offense to get him the ball,” Boise State coach Chris Petersen said. “He’s a game-changer, without question.”
Meanwhile, quarterback Ross Jenkins remains the starter, Dooley said. He was benched last week at Idaho.
Louisiana Tech has lost its last two games by a total of three points to fall to 3-5. The Bulldogs are 3-0 at home, though —outscoring opponents 120-26.
Boise State is 3-1 in Ruston as a WAC member but has not led at halftime in any of those games. The Broncos trailed at halftime in the first three and were tied in 2007.

Columnist John Feinstein took the Bowl Championship Series to task in The Washington Postfor its treatment of Boise State and TCU.

If UI can beat them it sounds like an easy win for the Bronco's but never say never. One game at a time, Go Bronc's, prepare well and execute flawlessly. What's ESPN's moto?? Every underdog is dangerous??
Read Mr Feinsteins column
Well said. Its all about the Benjamins.
Nothing new in the column
we have known this for quite some time. It it odd how they resist that which would make things right. Namely, a playoff system. Maybe it will happen one day.
Feinstein
What a great article outlining the hypocrisy known as the BCS Coalition. Parity is alive and well in College Football right now. Among teams and players I mean. However, money is money. The BCS Coalition is all about the Golden Rule. He who has the GOLD... makes the rules.
Washington Post
Great article, pretty well says the way it is. However they could have made the story a lot shorter. Something like; "The BCS works fine just the way it is. All BCS teams are getting rich and the he** with everyone else. Who really cares what team is best each year anyway."
GO BSU!!!
B is for BCS...
This story reads like something written for a grade school Weekly Reader. Why else would all of you like it so much.
lol
When you are good enough to write for the Washington Post, then you can mouth off.
I suggest you read
I suggest you read Feinstein's resume before making such statements...
Virginia head coaching job--Coach Pete?
Chad, I have a friend whose son is a good friend of the current Virginia head football coach. The inside information is that the Virginia alumni have selected Coach Petersen as the number one candidate for the head coaching position at Virginia. Of course, nothing official can happen until after the season. Are you hearing anything about this?
When Coach Pete decides
to leave BSU, and he most likely will some day, I don't believe he will go east. Pete is a comfort zone kind of guy and will most likely go to the PAC-10 when he decides to move on. Personally, I don't see that happening any time soon, but who knows.
Virginia
Every year somebody reportedly makes him their No. 1 choice -- even back to when he was a coordinator. I wouldn't worry too much about this one. I can't see him moving his family across the country. He did it once -- to be an assistant at Pitt -- and he wasn't comfortable. I think he told me once he felt like he was on Mars.
You know BUB
I have a 3 yr old son that went to the bathroom this morning and forgot to flush. When I went in to brush my teeth this adult size turd told me that coach pete might be leaving to Juno Alaska to follow his dream in dog sled racing. You know what I did-flushed that bunch of crap down the toilet.
Coach Pete gets job offers every year
Doesn't mean he's interested in leaving. Pete's name was the first on every job opening last year, but he blew them all off. What has Virginia got that makes them any different?
as is usually the case....
coach Pete's name will come up in connection with every opening in D1. They may want him, but does HE want them (or anyone else?). This is the point of the conversation where many come up with the "money talks" comment. But everyone with an open mind will have to admit that, above all else, Coach Pete has integrity. He says it's not "all about the money" and you have to believe him. Keep his assistants happy and he'll be happy, as long as the program is growing.
Coach Hawk should be available though!
COACH PETE
BSU wants you to stay. Boise is a great place. Why not make a Petersen dynasty of BSU instead of chasing the money. BSU will grow, and they will do what they need to for you to stay. Just don't become some miserable legend like Holtz. That dude needs a brain infusion.
Comfort zone
I hope all the comments on this hold true, I think that Coach Petersen has built the program to the point where he stands to make even bigger things happen over the next few years. A possible BCS championship, and a Heisman award to BSU player--not unthinkable.
Charlottesville is a beautiful city steeped in history, and the UVA campus has that colonial charm (designed by Thomas Jefferson). However, the summers are hot and muggy, and not a place for a western guy.
Double "D"
Chadd, sorry I got it wrong the first time, I had a friend years ago whose name was Fredd (we called him Double D).
Game night
comes one night earlier. Couldn't love it more.
