The Boise City Council money race: Thomson ... in a landslide
TJ Thomson has outraised the other seven candidates for Boise City Council.
Combined.
According to some eye-popping numbers at the city of Boise's website, Thomson has raised $48,921.27 in his bid to succeed Jim Tibbs on the council.
The other candidates have raised a total of $33,867.
Aside from the numbers, not many surprises here. In ths nominally nonpartisan race, Thomson continues to draw from a base of union and Democratic support.
On Oct. 9, Thomson received $4,000 from firefighters' unions in Blackfoot, Coeur d'Alene, Lewiston, Nampa and Pocatello. Thomson had already received the Boise's firefighters' union's endorsement — and a $1,000 contribution.
Other recent donors to Thomson's campaign include former Gov. Cecil Andrus; state Rep. Bill Killen, D-Boise; and attorney and longtime Democratic activist Bill Mauk.
Thomson's opponent, Dave Litster, has received a total of $11,350. Prominent donors include the Building Contractors Association of Soutwest Idaho, which donated $750; and the Idaho Association of Realtors, which contributed $500. While Litster has positioned himself as a conservative candidate — and has drawn public endorsements from GOP county commissioners and legislators — there wasn't much evidence of "name" Republican support in the latest reports.
In the other two council races, incumbents enjoy the fundraising edge:
• Vern Bisterfeldt has raised $10,895 in his bid for a third term. By contrast, Dan Dunham has raised $2,262, and David Honey has collected $62.54.
• Maryanne Jordan, a council member since 2003. has collected $5,999 — including $1,000 from the Boise firefighters union and $100 from Ada County Highway District commissioner Sara Baker.
Lucas Baumbach has raised $3,288, including contributions from Dunham and former City Council candidate Lee Lay. David Webb trails with $10.87 in contributions.

Which?
Your comment or $50K? Too obvious, innit.
You don't have $50K anyway.

something this article doesn't mention
is that, aside from "continuing to draw from a base of union and Democratic support," TJ has been working his butt off, months before his competitors had even announced their intention to run. Not to mention all the groundwork he laid by his work on the Obama campaign the previous year. He has earned every dollar in contributions the old-fashioned way, by hard work.
So he's TIRED and rich...
