Boise State won't move Virginia Tech game

By Chadd Cripe

Boise State will not agree to move next year's game against Virginia Tech, athletic department spokesman Max Corbet said Wednesday.

The game is scheduled for Oct. 2, 2010, at FedExField in Landover, Md.

Virginia Tech athletic director Jim Weaver said on a radio show this week that the game would move to Labor Day. Boise State already had indicated it didn't want to play on a different date, Corbet said.

Playing the game on Labor Day would have given the Broncos a difficult turnaround for their next game.

The Broncos don't have a game scheduled for opening weekend. They play Toledo at home Sept. 11, at Wyoming on Sept. 18 and at home against Oregon State on Sept. 25.

•••

ESPNU will broadcast the Boise State-Idaho football game on Nov. 14 at Bronco Stadium, Boise State announced Wednesday. It will not air on KTVB.

The game time has been moved to 1:30 p.m.

That decision could increase the chances of ESPN's College GameDay coming to Boise for that game because ESPN could promote one of its own games.

Boise State will play four straight games on national TV, beginning next week at Louisiana Tech. That's good news for the Broncos' BCS hopes and for Kellen Moore's Heisman hopes.

Brian Murphy has more on this in Murph's Turf.

Cool

ESPNU has really fallen in love with the Vandals this year.
Good to see them get some love as it can only reflect well on the WAC if they keep playing good football (even when BSU whooops up on 'em).

Labor day weekend?

We already beat a crappy team on Labor Day weekend and now we're told the "quality win" was too early in the season, it doesn't count because they (OU) weren't as good then. It's a conspiracy by the BCS!

On the other hand, it is helpful to BSU...

BSU is VERY good at being ready to play football the second the season starts and not using the first quarter of the first game or the first few games to "warm up" or "get in sync". Many other teams are not as prepared and therefore don't do as well the first week of the season (i.e, Oregon). Therefore, it is in BSU's interest to have the game early in the season. Another scheduling move in BSU's favor. They are definitely a blessed team.

Tomellen

So its the Broncos fault they are prepared? Ya ok. I dont buy it that Oregon or any other team wasnt prepared when we played them. You have all year and summer to get ready. Sure there are kinks but every team has the same amount of time to get ready. You are trying to belittle the success of the Broncos. A blessed team?? Way lame tomellen. Way lame.

I didn't mean it in a bad way...

it is actually a compliment to BSU that they have that mentality and that they don't waste a second of the season "warming up" or "getting in sync". It is a sign of a well coached team and a team that is disciplined and wants to give itself the best chance to win all the time. It is why BSU has had the level of success they have had. My point, was that there aren't many teams that are that prepared and it gives BSU a chance to take advantage of a team if they are not as prepared and disciplined. That is why BSU has had such a history of 1st quarter success against teams. While the other team is "feeling things out" and "getting on the same page", BSU is playing football and going ahead. It's not a knock, it's a compliment. The "blessed team" comment was just to highlight that it is generally easier to play teams like Oregon, Virginia Tech, USC, etc. early in the year rather than later. I'm actually impressed with BSU's mentality in regard to preparing for football games and the season.

Tomellen

I am not sold yet that that playing them the first game makes it easier to beat them, but the Broncos do prepare well against quality opponents... cept for that one team down in the south.

Well....

in that case, it wasn't that they weren't prepared, it was they truly were playing a better team.

Well., since 1996, BSU is 10-4 on opening day, however ....

The actual opening day record is 9-5 due to the technicality of Cal State-Northridge's 1997 forfeited 63-23 win.... we're 10-4. I'm not sure as to why they were forced to forfeit their win, but as you can see below, our opening day wins have all come against no talent, easy prey, hack teams that were of no challenge, with the excpetion of this years opener

1996 Lost to Central Michigan 42-21,
1997 Lost to Cal St 63-23, but due to forfeit, BSU ended up witha "w'
1999 Lost to UCLA 38-7
2001 Lost to #21 S. Carolina 32-13 (lost 2nd game 42-20 to Wash St)
2005 Lost to #13 UGA (Lost 2nd game 30-27 to Oregon St)

Our only quality season opening win was this year against Oregon 19-8

The other season opening wins:

1997 beat Cal State by forfeit
1998 beat Cal State 26-13 (lost next game)
2000 beat New Mexico 31-14 ( lost 2 of the next 4)
2002 beat Idaho 38-21 (lost next game)
2003 beat Idaho St 62-0 (went 1 for 2 the next two games)
2004 beat Idaho 65-7
2006 beat Sac St 45-0
2007 beat Weber St 56-7 (lost next game)
2008 beat Idaho St. 49-7 (went 1 for 2 the next two games)
2009 beat Oregon 19-8

Wait, WHAT?

In 2008, we went "went 1 for 2 the next two games" after the Idaho State game? Um, no we didn't. Last year, we were undefeated in the regular season. To have gone "went 1 for 2 the next two games" would indicate we one won one of the two games.

If I'm misunderstanding you, please, explain what you meant.

Uh.....

yeah, not sure how I made that mistake. info overload I guess, but all the other years should be correct.

Thanks for point that out

BCS a Conspiracy???

So now it's confirmed once again. That why it's called the Bull Cr*p System (BCS)! Nothing at all FAIR about the BCS. Never has been! They talk tradition. Wow, are they correct about tradition! It's just that they Mis-represent the tradition they falsely proclaim. The ONLY tradition going on is the year in year out rip-off of the collegiate football programs $$$ by funneling them a portion of the same $$$ to certain conference programs, minus their huge take. How do you think those big schools paid for their stadiums? To say they are in each other's back pocket would be the understatement of the decade!

Mel Gibsons whackjob brother...lol

Let's see--your team benefits quite well under the current system, as unfair as that is to proven powerhouse programs with a real schedule--maybe that's why so many now refer to bronco nation as B*** S*** U. Do you honestly know how these programs pay for their stadiums? Perhaps you should check into that before you make such an ignorant comment, in fact, can you name the oil tycoon and the university who now has a stadium with his name? Who am I kidding...you don't know anything about the history of college football, that said, let's hear another grand conspiracy theory. To say you actually know your head from your hind end would be the understatement of the decade!

BCS really stands for...

...Boise Calls Senator...to whine and enlist his help to change the system so as to include teams who don't pay the price every week of the season.

Wake up muledroppings. When you prove nothing you deserve nothing. Beating 11 DII teams is not the same as weathering a Pac 10, SEC or Big 10 season.

FACTOID; In any BCS conference BJC would be obsolete as they would be lucky to win 4 games.

Just light up the corn cob pipes, have a litte moonshine, shoot some critters and end your day watching The O climb into the top 5. After that begin the endless loop of Hee Haw reruns.

OUT Rack me over and over and over again. I AM THE TRUTH!!!!!

You...are not supposed to be on the computer in Blackfoot.

There is no life in Idaho...it is a mirror site on god's server. You were dreaming but it is over. Go to your residence and await our commands and THEN we will restore control...

Well of course

Of course it's a conspiracy... We rich, cool universities don't want "back water" farm school wasting spots in the Bowl Series Conspiracy.

ESPNU?

How does playing on a 6th tier ESPN channel increase the chances of Gameday visiting Boise? Aren't most of the games that Gameday visits primetime games on well distributed channels (exception "The Mtn")? How do you get ESPNU? I don't even think my cable provider in Seattle has that channel on any lineup.

Hey bbbroncos, you have to remember that you are ......

getting this analysis from the Statesman Staff -- consider the source!

Yup..........

With the exception of C. Cripe, there is A LOT left to be desired from the Statesman sports staff !
We get what we get, and I guess we have to learn to like it...............Sad.

GameDay

I added a little bit to explain what I meant -- it would allow ESPN to promote a game on one of their channels. Most of their appearances are at games on ESPN or ABC.

Directv has ESPNU. channel 614 if you have the right package

I thought Florida State vs. Miami owned Labor Day night on opening weekend. We aren't going to be stuck playing on ESPN at 12 pm eastern on Labor Day are we?

ESPNU Sucks

I don't pay for this extra channel; if it is not on ESPN or ABC, CBS ect, ect I don't watch it. In todays economy I've got better things to do with my money than buy extra TV channels. And the idea of playing on Labor day in Virginia against VT - there's another sucker idea. All they do is whine about our early wins because nobody is ready except us (lots of fumbles, bad snaps, missed tackles, crapy field goal kicking oh-yea we were really ready for that one) and I for one would rather take them on later in the year when the excuses are fewer and less deserved.

I agree whole heartedly, so I have AN ANTENNA.

I also live pretty damned close to KSRV but I wanted to WATCH the game.

Forget it. Why did KTVB even bid on Bronco sports??? This is retarded, kids.

whoa

Only one VT guy said there was a move on the schedule. Nobody has confirmed that. If you have ESPN and ESPN 2 you probably have the U channel. YOu can always watch for free on espn360.com

Cullen Moore

I looked up heisman canditates and there was no offical mention of Kellen, even tho he has by far the best record in the league, guess there BSU haters on the selection comitee.

funny

That or the entire college football universe realizes that the award goes to one of many outstanding college football players and not simply a player who performs at basic level against mediocre competition...lol. I doubt they are haters, rather, they probably realize the grave mistake they made by nominating Ian Johnson--who knew a former heisman candidate would only make the practice squad years later--at least he was never subjected to the heisman curse!

A curse? You mean like Bradford and Tebow are having?

Let's face it, Tebow got his bell rung and hasn't been the same since. He has thrown too many picks for someone supposed to try for his 2nd Heisman. And McCoy? Did anyone actually watch his pathetic performance in the Oklahoma game?

As for Moore, let's wait and see. I don't think he has the stats, but he is one of the better QBs in the country. He doesn't get sacked much, doesn't get picked much, and has a great QB rating. Of course, the muffed snaps could work against him, but they are not entirely his fault.

Again, let's just wait and see.

Don't give in

I already started my planning around the Oct date... don't be messing with my hotel and flights I am working on! And if I show up and we play bad can I ask for a refund?

Good for BSU, hold fast.

The arrogance of these BCS conference schools is amazing. Don't budge open with some wins.... hopefully Va tech will too and then you can have a serious matchup between hopefully two top ten teams. Uhhh I hope the snap problems are ironed out by then. A BSU win makes the OSU matchup a virtual playoff game for the NC game.
I would love if VA tech still has a BSU is a little guy that we can bully around" mentality. We love that.

BSU hold your ground

Kudos for standing up to a BCS elite whiner. I've never trusted anyone from east of the Mississippi, let alone east of Pocatello....Sunny...

RUN BRONCOS RUUUUNNNN!!!!

RUN BRONCOS RUUUNNN!!!! VT was too big for your resume anyway...maybe you could still swap them out and play UC Davis next year as they seem to be a pretty good matchup for a lower caliber bronco program! HAHAHAHA!!! Fear does funny things to greedy programs and people.

Who's running? Boise St

Who's running? Boise St just wants to play the game on the original date agreed to by both parties.

What are you talking about?

The game was just recently scheduled, and the Broncos just want to stick with the contractually agreed upon date. Nobody is "running" from anything.

hey dooker

shut your piehole were not running from NOBODY and talk about smaller programs thats what the vandals have been for how long now? i respect most vandal fans except IDIOTS like you now go to your room little boy GO BRONCOS

Won't move game?

Sure we will. Another million and we'll play on your date. Gene is not appreciated. He is a wizard. Soon after our game back east was announced a game the following year guaranteed money much higher than we received. Gene is very aware and is going to raise our payday. Brilliant!!

idahohooker is low on brains

because he attended u of i. hooker, let us know how low caliber our program is on november 14. here is a prediction: broncos 52 trolls 14. troll fans will cry long & hard after joe troll gets his beard pulled.

Factoid update!!! (To be racked!!)

1. Game Day will never come to potato land for any game, much less BJC vs. Idaho??? LOL!!!

2. Any Reason to back out of the Va Tech Game will do. Do you mules not just comprehend simple logic...SOS is it. You have no prayer next season if you cut out Va Tech...but what's new...play no one and whine...same old broken record.

3. Prepare now for the flip flop of the century...Sunday Nov. 1st will have one loss Oregon(to BJC) ranked ahead of undefeated BJC. Pay attention turds, SOS is everything and it's time to pay the Duck!!!

Rack me if you must, again as per usual. I'll be around to keep you all in line on my blog.

This post is worth one more RACK ME BBBBBAAAAABBBBBYYYYy!!!

Good for You

Bf**cked2009,

It's an obvious question but, how stupid are you. BSU doesn't give a crap if you pass us, we want you to pass us. We REALLY want you to beat USC and hopefully go undefeated. If you do end up higher than us, it only improves, Pay attention turd, our SOS, dumbazz. Hopefully you will play for a NC. Worst case, win the PAC-10 and go to the Rose Bowl. Even with a Jacka** like you for a fan, most BSU supporters are for Oregon all the way. You should spend less time "racking" yourself and spend some time actually thinking before you post.

Answer to the obvious...

...Captain dimwit is that Oregon winning out does not improve your sos because as the whole college football world knows Boise only played one legit team, so, there is no sos, just one game at the beginning of the season.

FACTOID, if Oregon wins out, winning 11 in a row they will be playing for the NC 1 year early.

FACTOID, Boise will be out of the top 10 and serious consideration for a BCS bowl BEFORE the season ends, even though they may still be undefeated

OUT Rack me

No.

You must be realy smart

Appaently BF**cked2009, you know more than anybody else. You obviously have more knowledge, spend more time analysing college football, and get paid lots of money to know what's going to happen. All I know is that virtually every analyst that has commented on it has stated that BSU ranking is directly tied to Oregon. They have also stated that as long as Oregon continues to win it helps BSUs SOS. Which expert are you basing your analysis on? Or is this, AGAIN, just your opinion. Maybe it's just me but I do not see one FACT in your post.

Factoid: If the teams you beat win, your SOS goes up. If the teams you beat lose, your SOS goes down.
Factoid: If you don't understand the above Factoid, your an idiot and should get of this site before you embarass yourself further.

BSU SUCKS........

You really think the ducks were playing the same way they are playing now ??????? And it's "ESPNU"... There's not a chance in hell Game Day would come to boise to show case the "BIG" bsu - idaho game..... You guys are insane.... Keep dreaming......And keep going down in the polls...... LOL.... GO Ducks....

Whatever sparky,

Go USC!

ISN'T THIS GAME STILL IN TWENTY TEN? It's 2-0-0-NINE!

----------
There is no life in Idaho...it is a mirror site on god's server. You were dreaming but it is over. Go to your residence and await our commands and THEN we will restore control...

Hey Ya'll...

...is that the correct use and spelling of the Boise state word???

Anyhoo, I don't hate Boise. You mules need to understand that Duck fans and BCS conference fans just want things to remain fair;

Play 12 games against BCS competition, not the San Jose States of the world, not the UC Davis's of the world.

No cupcakes. When you have a schedule that is worthy of BCS recognition you will get it.

Until then you and that high school stadium just come off as regional oddities that cry foul when they get told to pack a lunch or go hungry.

That's all I'm sayin, I'm not hatin'

Rack me though if you must...you must

OUT

Pbbbbbbbbbbblllllt!

----------
There is no life in Idaho...it is a mirror site on god's server. You were dreaming but it is over. Go to your residence and await our commands and THEN we will restore control...

Actually

"Ya'll" is a contraction from the southeastern portion of the United States for the phrase "you all". Nobody in Idaho says that word except those exposed to lots of folks from the south.

By the south, I mean Texas, Oklahome, and all states east of the Mississippi River AND south of the Mason-Dixon Line (except Maryland).

BTW, you sure don't listen, do you? It has been stated that the only reason Boise State played UCDavis is because an away trip to Hawaii grants us a 13th game that must be played against a 1AA team. I'm told this is a policy within the WAC. We can't do anything about it.

You knock us for playing San Jose State. What's your excuse for playing Washington State?

My uncle's first wife was from Alabama and I spell it Y'all...

Real authentic drawl is rather sloppy.

----------
There is no life in Idaho...it is a mirror site on god's server. You were dreaming but it is over. Go to your residence and await our commands and THEN we will restore control...

U said 12 right?

Here's is some of your 12 "no cupcake" games
Purdue 3-5
Washington 3-5
UCLA 3-4
Wash. St 1-6
You also played 2 "weak" mid-major teams - your record 1-1

The point is NO team in ANY conference plays "tough" teams every week. You really call Washington St. BCS calibare competetion? Yes Oregon has a tougher schedule than BSU. By the way we played UC Davis because Oregon St. was a late cancelation. I don't hate the Oregon. You *ucks just need to understand that BSU is a BCS calibre football team. Hopefully we will get to a BCS Bowl game and prove it AGAIN. In the mean time, why don't you get your AD to schedule us again. Then we'd be 3-0 Baby!!

As usual I must educate...

...mule nation.

Factoid # 1
All the teams we have beaten that have "losing records" have, like us played 90% of their games vs. BCS competition.

Factoid # 2
BJC is NOT a BCS caliber team. They play in a NON BCS conference. Get it???

Factoid # 3
Purdue beat Ohio State

Factoid # 4
Washington beat USC

Factoid # 5
Boise has played how many BCS conference teams?? Yeah, like I thought, 1. Play 12 and your lack of depth and talent to say nothing of how overwhelmed you would be playing in large venues every other week and you win 3-4 games tops and all this Boise BCS turd talk would not exist.

Lightning struck twice and all of a sudden donkeys fly??? I think not. Stop turdin all over yourself and embrace the racking that I administer you you Blue Pee Groupies with my every post.

OUT for now and Oh by the way...RACK ME BABY!!!!!!!!!!!

BDUCK

I admire your tenacity to make fun of the Broncos, but dude, dont you have a big game tomorrow? I mean, the team that has won your conference the last 10 years is coming to your city and your team is underdogs AND yet you are on a Bronco message board? Jesus man, its time to get real. Its GAME TIME for you and you are still trying for sloppy sloppy seconds.

The only fact you fail to mention is that your team lost to the Broncos TWICE. Time to get over it. You are like that girlfriend whos a stalker with VD. Its gross man.
