GIRLS SOCCER (final)Braves

The entire Boise team: No team wins a state title without contributions from more than one player, but this Boise team was a special case, routinely winning games season with a handful of scorers and providers. At the state tournament, that didn't change as seven different players scored in the team's three games. In the 4-2 championship victory against Rocky Mountain, the Braves got goals from Sarah Hicks, Sam Cordum, Eliza Balen and Jessica Oakes. Assists were also spread out throughout the tournament as four different players registered at least one.

BOYS SOCCER (final)

Murphy Olmstead, Centennial: A consistent influence all season at midfield for the Patriots, the senior saved his best for last with a goal in the 79th minute of the 5A state championship game against Borah to win the state title 1-0. Olmstead, who said he doesn't plan on playing college soccer, also scored a goal and had an assist in Centennial's 3-0 win against two-time defending state champion Boise in the semifinals. The state championship was Centennial's fourth in 10 years.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Liz Brandon, Eagle: The senior won her second consecutive 5A District Three cross country championship with a winning time over 5 kilometers of 18:32.18. Next, Brandon will attempt to repeat as state champion Saturday in Worley. She enters the state meet with victories in four of her last five races, including the Bob Firman Invitational on Sept. 26. Brandon won titles at 1,600 and 3,200 meters at the state track and field meet in May.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Andres Jaramillo, Vallivue: The junior took advantage of the absence of defending 5A District Three champion Eric Fitzpatrick — out with the flu — and won his first district championship in 16:21.62 at a rain-soaked Eagle Island State Park. Jaramillo finished fifth at the 2008 district meet and was fourth at state last year. He'll try to keep a good thing going at the state meet Saturday in Worley.

VOLLEYBALL

Morgan Odale, Eagle: The only four-year letterman on the Mustangs' roster led her team to its fifth consecutive 5A District Three championship last week with 67 kills, 44 digs, 13 service aces and seven blocks in four matches. Eagle, which improved to 29-3 with the four victories, heads to this week's state tournament eyeing its fourth consecutive championship. No 5A team has won four straight state titles since Sandpoint won five in a row from 1982-86.

FOOTBALL

Taylor Kelly, Eagle: The senior appears like he'll fit in just fine in Reno when he joins Nevada after his high school career. He did his best impression of Wolf Pack dual-threat quarterback Colin Kaepernick as he ran for 119 yards and a touchdown, and passed for 244 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mustangs past Rocky Mountain 42-28 on Friday to claim the 5A SIC Division 1 title. Eagle (7-1) hosts Centennial (5-3) at 7 p.m. Friday in a divisional playoff game. The winner will advance to the state playoffs.
