5A Poll

Still don't understand how Centennial can be ranked behind a team they beat by 30 points and another team they beat by 2. Jesse, how did you vote?

Vote

I didn't this week, because of state soccer. My fault I was too late. I'm sure my vote would have changed things. This is how I see it. I am not going to put Highland in, because they haven't played enough teams from Idaho to make a case and two of their three wins against Idaho schools are against 4A teams. The panhandle teams, meanwhile, haven't proven themselves against SIC schools.

Capital
Eagle (based on recent wins, six in a row)
NEXT THREE ARE EXTREMELY CLOSE
Centennial
Mountain View
Rocky Mountain

Thanks

Thanks for the insight. Yeah, Capital seems to be head and shoulders above everyone right now, Eagle Centennial we're very competitive, I'd probably put Rocky 4th from what I've seen (or even third). Despite Highland not playing anyone, they always seem to be really good.

What?

You're not going to put Highland in, even though they're 6-1? What difference does playing teams from Utah make? I know they play 4A schools too, but I'm also aware that they can't get a game from Treasure Valley teams anymore.

It's remarkably similar to the arguments against BSU and MWC teams--they play weak opponents, they can't compete with the "big boys", etc. Good thing we have playoffs in Idaho, or they may not have any of those state championship trophies.

I'd say second is a fair ranking for them, but don't be surprised if they come out of the playoffs with another championship.

Highland

I understand your argument, but I haven't seen any of those Utah teams play and this poll has no effect on the final outcome of the season, unlike the college polls. Comparing Highland to BSU seems like a reach. Idaho high school teams from the north, east, south and west have a playoff system, thankfully. They have been a very good team in the past and I wish our teams would play them during the regular season. I, however, have no control when it comes to 5A SIC scheduling.

Highland

I see what you're saying, but is that really a reason to leave them out? Thankfully, this poll is just for fun and the teams get to settle it on the field. But it is pretty much the same as BSU or the MWC school du jour..."they shouldn't be ranked because they haven't played anybody." The only difference is that HHS gets to "prove it" on the field, while college teams have to just make an argument. I'll take the high school system any day.

We can agree on that

I'll take the high school system any day, too.
