This is a fascinating scientific theory. The Higgs boson, an atomic particle that physicists think may create mass in other elementary particles is so dangerous that something from the future is stopping us from producing it.

That right. This force caused Congress to kill the Superconducting Super Collider in the early 1990s and now it is sabotaging the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland because they could create a Higgs that last existed within the first trillionth of a second of the Big Bang.

The New York Times reveals the theory by Holger Bech Nielsen, of the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen, and Masao Ninomiya of the Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics in Kyoto, Japan as efforts to fix the collider near completion.

“It must be our prediction that all Higgs producing machines shall have bad luck,” Nielsen told the Times in an e-mail message.

“Well, one could even almost say that we have a model for God,” Nielsen wrote.

God it seems “rather hates Higgs particles, and attempts to avoid them.”

For the few who might remember, the Idaho National Laboratory was one of the sites considered for the Superconducting Super Collider. Then Rep. Larry Craig opposed it as too expensive for American taxpayers and it ended up in Texas before it was killed.
