Pumpkins for the Abundance Project

I had wondered about the fate of the old Hillside Nursery site on Hill Road.

Turns out, Sustainable Growth Boise has bought it, and has plans to turn the site into the Northend Organic Nursery and Garden Center. The Center will include spaces for educational activities and green-related events.

The first event of the season — a Pumpkin Sale and Harvest Party — sounds like lots of fun.

The event will benefit the Abundance Project, an effort to collect excess produce from local farms and gardens and give it to Boise’s new refugee populations through the International Rescue Committee.

The pumpkin sale will run Friday-Sunday, Oct. 16-18, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. The party is on Sunday, Oct 18, 3-7 p.m., at the Northend Organic Nursery, 2350 Hill Rd., Boise.

If you have extra pumpkins, or gourds, straw bales, corn stalks, etc., the Center welcomes your donations to be sold at the event. Drop your pumpkins, et al, off at the Center, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., any time between now and Friday.
