Former Boise State wide receiver Vinny Perretta has been asked to join the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, he said Monday.
Perretta was in training camp with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent and just missed the cut for the practice squad. He has been working out in Boise and is scheduled to travel to Minnesota on Tuesday, he said.

Boise State defensive tackle Chuck Hayes will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, coach Chris Petersen said Monday.
Hayes is the fifth Bronco this year to tear an ACL. That list includes fourth-string quarterback Mike Tamburo, who was injured a couple weeks ago, Petersen said.
The others are tailback D.J. Harper, offensive lineman Cory Yriarte and defensive back Raphiel Lambert. Lambert’s injury occurred in spring ball. Yriarte was hurt during fall camp.
Hayes moved from the offensive line this fall to provide depth at tackle and was fitting in well. He had four tackles.
The Broncos are about to add a couple players to the tackle rotation. Freshman Michael Atkinson is eligible to play for the first time this week after serving a three-game suspension, but his status is uncertain for the game against UC Davis because he tweaked his injured ankle last week, Petersen said. Freshman Greg Grimes also should return soon from a leg injury.
Atkinson and Grimes were the projected backups at tackle going into fall camp.

The WAC has agreed to a deal with the Poinsettia Bowl that will give the league a fourth bowl berth for the next four years.
A WAC team will play a Mountain West team in the 2011 and 2012 Poinsettia Bowls in San Diego. Boise State played TCU in the Poinsettia last year. The WAC also will be a backup option to Army or Navy in 2010 and 2013.
The WAC has a similar contract with the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco, in opposite years. The guaranteed spots come in 2010 and 2013.
The WAC already has guaranteed spots in the Humanitarian, Hawaii and New Mexico bowls. The league has a backup spot to the Pac-10 in the Poinsettia this year.

San Diego's a Great Place
Let;s hope the WAC can provide competition to do the Poinsettia Bowl justice.
More national love for the Bronco's... Pat Forde's latest column at ESPN:

Thank you, kind Sir
Great article and info.
Now let's see if the WAC can
Now let's see if the WAC can get 4 bowl eligible teams.

thanks for posting. good article.

Good article...thanks
San Diego's a Great Town
But the stadium is garbage, and the locals don't support the game. Last year they had two top 10 teams, and it wasn't even close to a sell out.
Good Point
I live in LA and was able to buy tix in the best (or second best, can't remember) seating area for cheap and at face value the morning of the game. The section I was in wasn't empty, but it wasn't near full either. I thought the stadium was okay, though.
It could possibly be because of the...
two "top ten" teams that were in the game. Maybe, the fans realized that both teams were not "top ten" teams and thought their precious dollars could be spent in better ways.
Fans are way too smart to get fooled
Yeah, fans knew they weren't watching "top ten" teams, so they stayed away from the Poinsettia Bowl last year. Oh, wait. They were "top twelve" teams, though. Hmm... Sounds like Tomellen has a big axe to grind. Get over it.
Boise State's program is for real. The pollsters (who seem a little more football smart than Tomellen) currently rank Boise State the number FIVE team in the nation. And TCU? Well, they're knocking on the door, ranked TENTH in the AP poll and ELEVENTH in the Coaches poll. Now that's a little love and respect for the Broncos.
Bleed Blue! Go Blue!!!
That was my point...
fans are way too smart to get fooled. That is why the stadium was not sold out and as the person noted, was not even close to being a sellout. The fans were too smart to get fooled into buying expensive tickets to a game that did not include two legitimate "top ten" schools. As for my axe to grind? I usually use a chainsaw when cutting wood, but I would agree that my axe could probably use some sharpening. It's been awhile since I took care of that task. Maybe I'll put it on my weekend list of things to do. Thanks for the reminder.
Legitimate?
Okay, so if Boise State and TCU are not "legitimate" top ten/twelve programs, then who are these pollsters? Ha Ha! You make me laugh, Tomellen. Yes, you do need to grind that axe this week - you're certainly not the sharpest tool in the shed.
These pollsters...
are people that have been persuaded to believe that the only thing that matters is wins and losses, that it isn't fair for the "big" guys to get things the "little" guys don't get, and that you have to give credit to teams for beating the opponents on their schedule. They are also people that have been pressured to change the system due to the "little" guys crying foul (even going as far as getting Congress involved-like they don't have more serious matters to deal with). They are people that don't want to have to continually justify why they ranked a 6-4 team over a 10-0 team, even though they could justify the decision because they have been beat down by too much whining from those "more successful" teams and their fans.
Just admit it
Come on, Tomellen, just admit it. You wanted to take a negative stab at the Boise State Broncos by asserting that they are not a top ten program. Now you're starting to talk yourself into a circle.
The WAC gets a nice tie-in to the Poinsettia Bowl and you were just looking for anything to try to take down the Broncos. Hey, why not just enjoy the news that the WAC gets a fourth bowl contract? Do you really have to hate on the WAC and the Broncos? Well, apparently so.
Bleed Blue! Go Blue!!!
huh? Did you just say that
huh? Did you just say that teams should get credit for losing?
Non-BCS teams are 3-1 against BCS teams in BCS bowls. That's a 25% winning percentage for the "big" boys. Alabama was humiliated last year - and they were from the supposedly superior conference. Explain that one to me. Weren't motivated? Too banged up from a season of SEC conference play? Bull crap. They got out-coached and out-played in every facet of the game. If they weren't motivated at the start of the game, they should have been motivated by the end of the first quarter when they were getting worked by the "little" guys from Utah.
RE: "getting congress involved"
Trade is defined as the commercial exchange (buying and selling) of goods and services. NCAA Football is a "Trade" because fans buy tickets and team merchandise.
Antitrust acts are federal statutes that regulate trade in order to maintain competition and prevent monopolies.
The BCS is a monopoly.
Like it or not NCAA football is a business.
Tickets Weren't Expensive
You have no idea what you're talking about. I had great seats. There were waiters in my section. The tickets were under $50 each, including convenience fees.
The stadium wasn't sold out because BSU and TCU have relatively small fan bases, because San Diego is over 1000 miles from Boise and Ft. Worth, and because of the economy.
Let's not forget...
The timing of the game. Two days before Christmas is a pretty tough row for a lot of folks that might have otherwise figured out a way to get to the game. I would have loved to get there. But weighing the cost of traveling on Christmas/Christmas Eve and the eventual court costs in a divorce, I settled for watching it in HD.
Good Point
I went at the last minute because I couldn't get time off work to go back home for Christmas. If I had been able to go back home to visit the family, I wouldn't have gone!
Vandals
The Vandals will be taking over the WAC, back off broncos there is a new sheriff in town. We will be the Poinsettia Bowl not you donkeys
P-bowl
Been there done that. BSU is off to the big show this year, you can have the P-bowl. We'll make 1 mil for you though. What have you done for us lately? (OK here comes the hate)
Are you smoking #$#.?
The Vandals will not be taking over the WAC just because they are ranked 89th in the nation. I bet 89th in the nation will be the highest ranking for them this year.
You're only partly correct
While it's very likely that the Vandals WILL end up in the Poinsettia Bowl, it will only happen because they are 6 and 6 and the Broncos once again have gone to a BCS game.
what have you been smoking?
what have you been smoking?
Does
that mean Perreta won't be making guest appearances at Chicago Connection? Man I wanted that guy to bring me my Pizza. Good luck in Minnesota.
The Myth is True
Broncos do deliver my pizza...
Vandal Fan
U
must have not seen the commercial. U know I have a lot of respect for UI, had high school friends go to school there, even partied at some of the frat houses. Great college town and then some. In one weekend had three different girls on two different nights. Great college experience for sure but never did go to school there, just visited. U stupid Vandal Fans always are quick and arrogant to take a shot at anything and everything to bring down anything BSU. Hope for the best with Akey and his crew but the fans can go suck dix.
Congrats Vinny
I was hoping for this, not the injury, but for Vinny to get the shot. Just one more step for him and Ian to be seen on Sundays.
Good luck Vinnie:
Remember "WEIGHT ROOM" there is nothing like it to make an athlete better, stronger or quicker. Besides the more time you spend in the weight room the more you look serious, dedicated and the cheaper you live when your not out on the town doing something useless. Keep pushing I.J. too he needs it.
Wrong
The WORST thing for a Wide Receiver is the weight room. The added muscle greatly diminishes his speed. If a WR wants to keep speed, I suggest sprinting, and LOTS of pushups and situps. Don't believe me? Ask Mike Singletary, All-Pro LB for the Chicago Bears. He comes to this conclusion in his book. He says the only downfall is that he wasnt hitting people very hard, but what does a WR need to hit people for?
Hang in there, Vinnie.
Hang in there, Vinnie, and keep fighting to get onto that NFL playing field. Same for you, Ian Johnson. There are a lot of people pulling for both of you men. (Even us Vandals.)
Why cant more Vandals be this classy?
Thanks for the words of encouragement!
They probably are JL
We're just seeing a select few on the boards.
tomellon, you are missing the point.
I don’t care if you are a Bronco hater…or a TCU hater, WAC or Mtn West hater, if you have a bowl game in your back yard and the tickets are affordable, and you are a fan of college football at all, you should go! The teams, the divisions, the bowl commission, the local economy…so many different groups benefit. And it's a great opportunity for those that attend to see a high profile game often with good seats for a good price. It doesn’t really matter if you agree with the ranking status of the teams playing in the bowl. That is done and cannot be changed..this is why I have, and will continue to attend the H-bowl-regardless of who plays who. Also, often many of the teams ranked 10-15 put on a better show than the top 5 ranked teams anyway, so that excuse is horse$#*&. Stop hating long enough to get some O2 to your brain.
Congrats Vinnie!
Well Said
On all accounts
So many ACL injuries...WHY? Can they be avoided better?

Keep your head up.....
Chuck Hayes, same message to you that DJ got. Hold your head up, you will have a great next year. Five people with the same injury-thank God BSU has people coming back off the injury list to help out at tackle. Hey dougd, please tell me you really don't believe that line of garbage in your post ! GET BACK ON YOUR MEDS.
computer Rankings
If you look at the SOS on the computer models, BSU is ranked #4 or #5, depending on the model with SOS rating of 98. Oklahoma, ranked #3, with the top SOS of 1. TCU is about #12 with a SOS of 99. TCU had a stronger strength of schedule until Utah and BYU flopped. SOS can change week to week. The almighty Florida, SOS is in the mid 40's. The whole PAC 10 (you know that huge powerhouse conference that BSU can't compete with?) strength of schedule dumped, except for Oregon's SOS went up since there loss was now against a #5 ranked team. Oregon rates a SOS of 7! It works both ways Tomellon. BSU doesn't get as much benefit from Oregon as Oregon now gets from them.
Alot of ACLs
Didn't they take away those knee braces last year or so saying they didn't find any benefit to wearing them? Now we have like four guys out from ACL's and three of them are lineman. Is there any correlation to this? Chad, U got anything?
Vinny
Way to go Vinny, I'm pulling for you.
I was at the Poinsettia Bowl last year
Sell out? It wasn't even close. It never will... Qualcomm is massive and like others have mentioned the bowl is too close to Christmas. My wife and I spent 4 hours in the LAX terminal waiting for our flight back to Boise on Christmas Eve. Argh!! We made it home in a snow storm - thanks southwest!
Great game, love every chance I get to see the Broncos but all in all, not worth it.
Go Broncos!
