When he arrived on campus, Boise State wide receiver Kirby Moore expected to play as a true freshman. Then came a fractured left foot, suffered during summer drills at the Caven-Williams Sports Complex on June 15.

“I was just running a route in the indoor and my foot got really swollen,” Moore said.

Two days later, he underwent surgery, which included putting a screw in the foot. The screw remains.

“Hopefully, it doesn’t rot,” Moore said Tuesday.

Moore, the younger brother of quarterback Kellen Moore, saw his first game action against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday at Bronco Stadium. Coaches decided they needed the depth at inside receiver that Moore provides. He did not have a catch in the game.

The injury set the 6-foot-2, 196-pound Moore behind during fall practice, but he is trying to get caught up through film study and extra attention at practice.

“When I’m out there at practice right now, I’m trying to take as many reps as I can and when I get my reps make them count,” Moore said.

“A big thing I tried to do during fall camp was watch film a ton and just think what the other receivers were thinking.”

Moore said he was bummed after injuring his foot, but Kellen took him into the film room to help him learn the offense.

The brothers don’t live together, but Kirby said he hangs out at Kellen’s place about three nights a week.

“I use his laundry definitely,” Kirby said. “Probably a little too much.”
