Boise State spokesman on Oregon incident: "Unfortunate and regrettable"
I know many of you are tired of fallout from “The Punch.” But many of you have also asked for Boise State’s response. Here is what the school’s spokesman wrote me in an e-mail about the incident after Boise State’s 19-8 victory against Oregon at Bronco Stadium:
“The post-game aftermath was an unfortunate and regrettable situation for everyone. Boise State shoulders its share of responsibility and has responded with an apology to the University of Oregon, disciplinary action of a player and a reprimand of the scoreboard operator. The university has trained security officers and procedures in place to address inappropriate fan behavior. Bronco Stadium is a special place and the support of our fans is tremendous. However, this situation certainly has heightened awareness for good sportsmanship and the importance of carrying ourselves as a first-class university and program on and off the field.”
There are plenty of lessons to be learned from the incident. Let's hope that everyone involved and schools, players and fans around the country have taken something from it.
It would be nice if this were the last time sports made headlines for all the wrong reasons, but I can assure you it won't be.

Close the Door?
You keep opening the door EVERYDAY since this happened. Don't print another article about it PERIOD!!!! Get it?
I couldn't agree more.
since we're on the subject, lets consider that the Statesman printed an article before the game, which I believe was written by Brian Murphy that detailed how much of a trash talker Jeron Johnson is, as if Murphy was worshipping and glorifying that type of behavior. It was also the Statesman who chose to publish Orgon's trash talking as well, when they could have focused more on the X and O's instead, and you're right, the statesman keeps on and on with it. For instance, in todays paper, they published letters to the sports editor from around the region that demonized the Bronco's. One in particular was titled something along teh lines of BSU is what's wrong with college football, another was from a man in Caldwell who hates the blue turf and claims that opposing players find that our guys blend into the turf giving our guys an advantage.
It's as if the Statesman is trying to stir the pot.
It's over...lets move on and discuss how dominating our defensive is.

Did I miss something? Scoreboard operator???? It wasn't his fault BSU received more points? GO BRONCOS!
Video Board
The video board operator received discipline (rightfully so) for playing the punch on slow-motion repeat on the video board. This incited many fans and made the situation worse, especially if you were wearing Oregon gear. There's also a good chance that if he didn't replay it on the video board like he did, much of the aftermath interaction with the fans could have been avoided because most fans wouldn't know about punch till they saw it on Sportscenter.
Apparently, it also changed policy as they have a policy for showing controversial plays no more than once during the game, but they had no such policy after the game.
But I agree, I'm tired of reading about this incident. Can you talk about football?
Smooth operator
Ohhhh... I didn't hear about that. I saw the board and then commotion in the stands. That incident could of really escalated. Now..let's hear about TOMORROW'S Game!
what about Oregon's video board operator?
Last year, Oregon's video board operator incited the Oregon crowd by playing a highlight tape of Jeron Johnson's hard hits immediately after he was flagged for his personal foul that resulted in him being ejected. Did that guy receive any punishment? No. because he was simply doing his job, and yes, it helped ignite the internet message boards for an entire year with talk about BSU being a dirty late hitting team, which in part lead to Blount declaring that we needed a butt whoop'n, but lets keep in mind that it's just a game.
It's football, and it's just as emotional as it is physical, but what we're all losing sight of here is that it's a single act from a single player who lost his cool and went into a rage and to place blame onto Byron Hout is like placing blame on an assault victim for making his or her assailant mad enough to attack them, and to place blame on our video board operator, is like placing blame on the person who saw the violent act and reported it. In my view he was simply doing his job too.
Blount lost his cool and allowed his rage to control him and, it's evident that he has issues and, instead of Oregon allowing him to practice with the team, they should be more interested in his mental well being and force him to go to mandatory therapy sessions in order to keep his scholarship.
I've heard how this incident has ruined his future and, perhaps that may be the case as far as his NFL future is concerned, however, lets not forget that Blount is basically getting a free education from the University of Oregon, and hopefully, his college degree will enable him to have a very bright future outside football.
Like I said earlier...it's just a game!

Murph, the door would be closed if you would just stop posting about it. The University response doesn't sound like it adds to the storyline that hasn't already been brought to the public's attention in press conferences by Coach Petersen, etc. Write something about tomorrow's game, please.
