Oregon's Blount suspended for season
5:02 p.m. -- From Boise State coach Chris Petersen:
“The event that took place last night following our game between Byron and Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount was very unfortunate and we do not condone Byron’s action. There will be disciplinary consequences for Bryon as a result of the incident last night and they will be handled internally.”
Hout will not be suspended, Petersen said.
3:31 p.m. -- A little more clarification on Blount's status from an Oregon press release:
Blount will continue to have access to all of the university’s support services provided to all student-athletes, will be allowed to take part in all team activities, including practice with the team, and will be held accountable to all team rules and regulations. However he will not be allowed to participate in any games.
2:40 p.m. -- Oregon has suspended senior running back LeGarrette Blount for the rest of the season, including a potential bowl game, for punching Boise State defensive end Byron Hout on Thursday night, Chip Kelly announced Friday.
Kelly said Blount is allowed to remain with the program.
Blount punched Hout in the jaw with a right cross moments after the Broncos' 19-8 victory Thursday night. Hout said something to Blount and tapped him on the shoulder, prompting Blount to turn around and punch him.
"It's the incident. You can't hit somebody in society, whether they called you a name or not," Kelly said. "In society, no matter what happens you can't do that."
Kelly refused to say what Blount told him Hout said.
"I don't want to get into that," Kelly said.
Kelly said he cried when telling Blount of his punishment and that Blount cried as well.
Athletic director Mike Bellotti, who was the team's football coach until March, said he supported Kelly's decision.
"We don't believe he deserves to represent the university on the field anymore," Bellotti said.
12:42 p.m. -- Boise State had another huge victory overshadowed Thursday night, continuing a trend for the Broncos.
— The 2007 Fiesta Bowl victory against Oklahoma was (somewhat) overshadowed by Ian Johnson’s postgame wedding proposal.
— The 2008 regular-season win at Oregon, Boise State’s first road win against a BCS-conference team, was overshadowed by two late hits.
— Thursday night’s dominant victory against Oregon has now been overshadowed by the actions of Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount.
The new press box at Bronco Stadium was filled to capacity for the game and had Blount not gone postal — and you can certainly criticize Bronco defensive end Byron Hout for instigating things — then most of that media would have been writing about how Boise State cemented its status as a BCS contender.
Instead, most of the commentary is about Blount.
Kelly’s future
Also lost in the uproar over Blount’s actions was the actions of Oregon AD Mike Bellotti, the former football coach who resigned in March to take the AD job.
Bellotti went down to the field in the second quarter to talk to first-year coach Chip Kelly and then conducted an interview with ESPN in which he was second-guessing the playcalling.
Kelly’s team looked completely overwhelmed and there was dissention on the sideline as well. Bellotti’s actions certainly don’t help Kelly to establish any sort of authority over this squad.
Imagine having your boss come to your first big meeting with your employees and basically tell you that you're conducting the meeting all wrong.
Chris Petersen realizes how good he has it. You would never see Gene Bleymaier undermining Petersen like that on national television.

Try to focus on this negative nancy (murph)
Props to BSU players for not doing what other teams would have done or should have done when a fellow team mate takes one to the chin. Most teams would have B-lined to Blount and sent a message of don’t mess with us. Both sides recognized the stupidity of both players and didn’t mix it up. I agree that Hout should get at least 1 game suspension for making contact with his hand on the shoulder pads and Blount should be gone for the season.
Would you like to wear a dress to the next game Murph. From words of former coach Hawk, "It's division 1 FOOTBALL"
By the way; thank you Duck fans who traveled to Boise. You traveled strong and we met a lot of nice Oregon ducks. We also found out who our Idaho ducks are now too. Classy group of fans, let’s not give this end of game incident a black eye between the rest of the Broncos and the Ducks. Good luck with rest of your season, please win the rest of your games for us.
BSU FOOTBALL ROCKS!!
what can i say, i am a HUGE FAN OF BSU FOOTBALL. i live in maryland and have been out to boise the past couple of years to catch a home game. nothing like it. the atmosphere, the people, and the city are awesome!!!! you guys have a great thing going out there and i evny you!! :)
but to the whole punch thing....that is what happns when you put a THUG in a football uniform. and if you dont believe me look at that fool "shucking and jiving" after he hit the BSU PLAYER. im sorry there is no place in college althletics for CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR. lets face it he ASSAULTED THE BSU player then later had to be restrained by a BOISE POLICEMAN. there again, another criminal charge of disorderly conduct. and for what? but that is what you get and if the ncaa doesnt send a message to that idiot then you can expect more situations like this to occur. lets face it if we hit someone we face the possibilty of getting charged crimnally, going to trial, possibly found guilty and possibly going to jail. this is no different i dont care if it is a football game or not. it is still SPORTS!! this isnt the UFC.
but on a happier note, what a win, the defense looked awesome, the offense once it gets the kinks worked out will be unstoppable and hopefully brotzman will get his leg taken care of. i cant wait to get up there again, like i said, enjoy what you guys have there. it is an awesome place and dont take if for granted.
WHAT?!?!
Last night game did NOT "cement BSU's status as a BCS contender." Holy crap Murph did you not watch the game? It looked like two dogs trying to mate with a door knob. That was NOT BCS football. To everyone watching, it cemented BSU and Oregon critict's opinion that NEITHER are BCS contenders. 3 fumbles, 2 missed field goals, fumbled snaps. I hope BSU is playing this well when Idaho plays them....
agreed
All last nights game showed me is that Oregon sucks!! They looked horrible and should not even be in the top 50. BSU on the other hand really did not look much better. BSU had great succes controlling the clock and if my defense would have been on the field for 3/4 of the game I would have scored at least 70 points. Scoring a mere 19 points against that defense is hardly worthy of a BCS bid. Game one down Nevada,USU still await I watched my UTES last ight and I must admit I like what I saw in USU. BSU come on patsy of the WAC they might run the table.I think they loose 2 games. But when your strength of schedule is rated 116 out of 125 its pretty easy to think your good?
Hey Utah79
Boise State 36
Utah 3
In SLC. Nuff said.
HEY LOOSER
That was a long time ago get over it you BSU idiots can only live in the past just like your win over Oklahoma. Talk to me when your pasty schedule changes and you play a really good team. Talk to me when you loose in anther bowl game. Your overated. Talk to me when you get rid of that disgusting field...lmao
I can't wait till you azz holes loose a game!!
You Just Might Be....
....waiting a long time for that! :-)
Seriously, tho....your words are obviously spoken out of jealousy and fear. BSU is a great team...no denying it.
The world keeps demanding we prove ourselves....again and again and again. And we do. :-)
Vandals v. Broncos
The Broncos walked off the field and 12 plays later the Vandals scored.
Vandull fan
Doesn't matter, BSU's cheerleaders could beat the Idaho football team! That won't even be a game to watch! Besides, that Oregon running back dummy would fit right in with the Vandul program! Even ESPN said the Vanduls were one of three teams in the WAC dragging the conference down!
Not Fair
Vandal administration can beat the poor chearleaders (remember the NEW UNIFORMS)?

Enjoy the win already
Seriously….stop pouting already. BSU got the win. Can’t you just be happy? Maybe the punch overshadowed the game because the game was boring, and no, I am not just saying that because I am a UO fan – The Ducks stunk it up last night, all the credit to BSU. But honestly watching two teams dance around the middle of the field, no matter how many yards one gets, is pretty boring if no one scores. It’s time for BSU fans to grow up with the program and lose the rather large chip that they have on their shoulder that causes them to find the bad even in victory.
No Excuses
As a Duck fan, I would first like to congratulate the Boise State team on a very good win. None of us expected the complete domination of our offense that you accomplished last night. It is not easy to stop the Oregon offense, yet your coaching staff and players executed to perfection. Truly a great win for your program and my hope is that you win out and reach a BCS game.
As far as Blount, all of us Ducks are truly embarassed by his actions and it was completely out of line. We will not live this one down any time soon. I believe that Blount should be immediatley and indefinitely suspended from the team. If he ever plays for Oregon again, he must have an extremely difficult path to earn his way back on to the team. These are college kids and we should not be about destroying a young life. I would look for ways for him to accept responsibility for his actions and to create a way for him to turn his life around. That being said, he cannot play for the University of Oregon under these circumstances and the first step is accepting the punishment that is about to be handed out.
Blount
I'm no Duck fan, and I've heard that there were problems with Blount in the preseason, but a season suspension (like he just got) seems excessive. It shouldn't have happened, but Hout was probably out of line too. Sad and ugly.
Thanks DD
Very gracious post.
Blount ok
I don't think that Blount should have gotten such a severe penalty.. Everyone get's emotional from time to time, and it was not during any football plays. I'm a BSU fan and I say he should be suspended a few games but not the entire season. For that matter GO DUCKS!! We want you to win the rest of your games..
This person needs therapy. He is borderline for hospitalization.
Even with Oregon's fairly restrictive guidelines.
It would only take ONE properly made complaint here and he would be extradited to Ada County. Hout's MOTHER could do it.
If Blount weren't attending Oregon, would he be modeling lead jewelry? WHY is he so strangely angry? Is he mentally ill or on drugs? Steroids?
It wouldn't do any good for him to box--remember Mike Tyson?

Thursdays game
First, as a Bronco faithful, let me say that 99.9% of the Oregon fans that I saw were top notch, class acts! There is always one rotten apple, but here's to hoping Oregon and Boise can continue this game as a tradition! Thanks to all Oregon fans! Please feel welcome to land on our blue field anytime!
I Agree on the Blount Comments
stating he should not be suspended for the whole season. I hope they can work something out where LaGarrette can take his punishment, make his restitution and win the fans back.
I am a Bronco fan, and I endorse this statement. :-)
Problem with this is that he's a SENIOR and there's no time now.

Bleymaier
And of course Bleymaier would never go down on the field with Petersen. Is Bleymaier a former Pac-10 head coach? Did Bleymaier used to coach the team he is now the AD of? No. Bleymaier is a baker. He bakes cupcakes by the dozen.
LOL!
You are criticizing Bleymaier with a goof like Rob Spear at the helm in MosCow? You crack me up!! Has Rob ever played anything past Optimist? You Vandals are funny.
And Spear isn't down there
And Spear isn't down there telling what calls to have Akey make. Lets try to stay on target and read the whole string of posts. Scroll up.....a little more....a little more....there. Murphy said "you'd NEVER see Bley go down on the field and tell Petersen what to do" like he was all high and mighty because Oregons AD did. The AD happened to be the coach in the last game that Oregon played before barfing on themselves last night.
Take Offense
As a postal worker I take offense at the use of the term, "gone postal". Comparing Blount to a postal worker is not right. Any postal worker would have gotten positive yards in that game.
SI! And the truck would be stylin', lights flashing and all ;-)
My carrier is hotter than yours!

Again....
Murphy doing all he can to dis-credit BSU. It's like Murphy has taken a pay cut or something and he feels he has to take it out on someone.
Blount and the entire UO team, coaches and AD started most of this last year, then carried into this year by mouthing off to the media. Hout should have stayed queit and walked off the field but he IS a young CFB player who was excited. He SPOKE....Blount HIt, kicked, cried, whined and pitched a FIT.
But, like Murohy and the UO players/Staff and some fans are saying...this is ALL BSU's fault again. Not UO!
Thanks for being the local media guy Murphy (NOT)
Blounts cheap shot!!
From a prior comment: "Oregon has to play schools far tougher after this game. This is bsu's entire season. Just like last year - bsu beat Oregon yes they did, good job, and they still finished lower than Oregon in the rankings with one loss and Oregon had 3".
This is obvious from anyone that knows anything about college football the thing that I laugh about is that Oregon can't handle getting beat by a smaller school from a smaller conference. I say put up or shut up Duck fans!! I actually was a Duck fan that would root for them sometimes but after seeing what took place with them last night I say they're sore losers and a bunch of cry babies that can't deal with a loss from a smaller school. I mean Blount cheap shots the BSU guy and then he almost gets into it with some fans as well.
Despite his action being
Despite his action being totally uncalled for, stop letting one players actions reflect on the entire team and its fans......that is a tad extreme. I hardly think that moron from BSU that got in Blount's face to begin with reflects all of BSU and its fans....or am I wrong?

You are not wrong. When BSU
You are not wrong. When BSU beats good teams, they are as shocked to win as the good team is to lose. They react like that.
You are
a blatant liar. The only time the BSU team or its fans are shocked are on those rare occasions when the team loses. It's far better than being a Vandull and being as shocked to beat a horrible team as the horrible team is to lose to Idaho.
haha you talk like BSU has
haha you talk like BSU has been winning since the first football was formed out of pigskin. You donkeys have such a short memory. Considering most of you didn't know we had a "university" downtown until they started winning...i'm not surprised.
True
That would be like Oregon fans judging an entire team and its fans for one late hit by Ellis Powers and one personal foul by Jeron Johnson, wouldn't it? And we all know that would never happen.
Reminisce much? That was two
Reminisce much? That was two
Reminisce much? That was two games ago now. Get over two cheap shots by BSU. BSU fans have the biggest Napoleon complex. Have pride that is fine, but get rid of the chip on your shoulder it is really annoying and only makes non-fans hate the program more. I actually was kind of becoming a fan when I moved to Boise in 06, but following the FB, the unrelenting coverage all year long and the cries of disrespect after every victory blah blah blah. It gets so old.
Two games?
What kind of fuzzy math are you using? I think Boise has had more than 2 games since they played Oregon in Eugene. But, I think you missed the point of the previous post. It was dripping with sarcasm, but you seem to have missed it.
Murphy...
I can't believe Murphy is paid for what he writes...go figure Prater is his boss.
Well worth it
Well worth it. Thanks Blount from vandal fans across the country. Boise State has needed a b**ch slap for years. Sorry it ended your season.
sleeping on a cot vandelle
stay classy!
How sad for you
I really don't care about your little rivalries, but you just outed yourself as not being able to do as a team what 1 thug tried to do. Blount is too stupid to be in college. Do the math: Go towards the crowd and start crap...20,000 to 1. Too stupid to see it's a bad idea.
Murphy
If you think hes bad watch Lou on ESPN all he can do is downplay BSUs wins. He wasn't as bad last night but last years game that was all he talked about how BSU shouldn't be beating U of O. He obviously doesn't think about it in terms of ranking but I wish he'd shut his mouth.
It's a shame there was a winner
I'm a PAC-10 fan from way back and was rooting for Oregon for that reason alone. But, it gave me great pleasure to see the Ducks lose, and especially to see the Oregon fans pouting and in total dispair. If you have ever been to Autzen Stadium, then you have seen the worst of the worst, especially the student section. Then, the Blount debacle is a total embarrasment for the entire State of Oregon who supports the University. As far as BSU goes, you can look forward to a cupcake schedule now with the likes of New Mexico State, Utah State, ad naseum. Oregon meanwhile plays Perduenext week, a Big 10 school and Cal in the next few weeks. I hope BSU enjoys the victory...they should have won by two or three more touchdowns, say 38-8...congratulations. I also hope BSU gets tripped up in one of the next games because their schedule doesn't warrant a BCS bowl game, period. Finally, I hope BSU gets in a decent conference because until they do, this debate will never end.
Decent Conference
BSU: Hello, Pac 10, we'd like to join your conference. Oh, you're full. Ok.
BSU: Hello, Mountain West, we'd like to join your conference. Oh, you're full. Ok.
BSU: Hello, Big 10, we'd like to join your conference. Oh, you're full. Ok.
BSU: Hello, Big 12, we'd like to join your conference. Oh, you're full. Ok.
BSU: Hello, SEC, we'd like to join your conference. Oh, we have to move to the Southeast.
Now, Mr. HighNote, how do you go about getting into a 'decent' conference? Please tell us and we'll move in a heart beat. Maybe the Pac 10 will make room for BSU by dropping Oregon, Arizona or Washington State. Anyone else?
I don't get it. He is a senior, he is suspended for the year.
But he can "remain with the program" What does that mean?
Don't Know the Facts
But basically you have so many years of eligibility, as long as you are enrolled. So you'll get guys who in a masters program but are playing because they still have eligibility.
Scholarship
My understanding is that it also means he gets to keep his scholarship.
COTvandal
You are on a bad path. Your lifeless vandals have not won anything in your lifetime. Give it a rest. Buy some Bronco gear and cheer for the Broncos. There is still time for you to turn things around.
So i can hop on the
So i can hop on the bandwagon to nowhere? No thanks.
So Can Idaho Stop Sucking
So that the WAC's standing as a conference will improve?
Idaho
I think they're working on it...haven't you seen the Akey's Army commercials? Hilarity. Although there was one on ESPN last night for BSU that was unbelieably hilarious. Showed some pics of the tech school itself with a really nice ballad in the background. "Thaaat's where you'll fiiiinnnnd meeee. At Boise State Universityyyy". Dude, fire your marketing department....
What does that mean?
It means he can keep his scholarship and name on the roster for future resume purposes.
