And so it begins: the obligatory Rex Rammell-induced Idaho bashing from the media
Whoa, Nellie. Who saw it coming?
Perhaps the first (but sadly, unlikely the last) snarky little blog lumping Idahoans in the kooky camp with Rex "Obama tags" Rammell. (Hat tip: Thanh Tan, Idaho Public TV.)
Seattlepi.com blogger Scott Sunde had great fun regaling his readers and riling his commenters with the story of the "Obama tag" controversy — starting with Rammell's pandering appearance before a GOP gathering in Twin Falls.
Writes Sunde: The state's wolf hunt, for which wolf tags are required, came up. Along the way, a woman — you got to love Idaho — was inspired to shout "Obama tags."
Rammell took the bait. "Obama tags? We'd buy some of those," he said.
Actually, having spent 24 years here, I do love Idaho. Not sure I got to (to steal Sunde's syntax), but I do nonetheless. I'm pleased to see so many Idahoans, including most leading Republicans, renounce Rammell's rhetoric for the reckless garbage that it is.
After 24 years, I've also grown accustomed to the Idaho-bashing that follows these stories like ants follow picnics. One coping mechanism is to continue the source.
In his rush to get in his digs, Sunde refers to my paper as the Idaho Statement. I don't know. As in fashion statement, I suppose.

Truly amazing (expected?) was that he double-downed
on teh stoopid.
Glad to see the top R dogs are now condemning.
Batted Down
When Phil Batt says you're outta there, hang it up, Rex Rambo, you who say you don't apologize for anything you say..
Your joke is just a joke to the rational but then again you don't see the irrationals who gave us our glorious historical violence:
1865 Lincoln killed
1880 Garfield killed
1900 McKinley killed
1910 Teddy Roosevelt shot (saved by speech in his breast pocket)
1933 FDR Shot at in an assassination attempt. Mayor of Chicago was killed
1950 Truman Shot at in assassination attempt
1963 JFK killed
1975 Ford escapes two assassination attempts by pistol, one shot fired
1981 Reagan almost killed, three others wounded
And Others
Huey Long, ML King, Robert Kennedy, G.Wallace, Vernon Jordan
And Just Recently
Dr Tiller by a anti abortion gunner while greeting people at his church
The Holocaust Museum Guard gunned down by a deranged racist while opening the door for him
The gunman who attacked the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist church in Knoxville was, in fact, angry with the percieved “liberal” views of the people he gunned down. In a letter, one year later the killer wrote "The future looks bleak,” the ex-soldier lamented. “I’m absolutely fed up! So I thought I’d do something good for this country — kill Democrats ‘til ...
And then there is your further racist memento on a radio station today when you said 99% of your callers and emails had "called me everything but white."
The problem Rex Rambo is you appear to be one of the irrationals
The real problem is you are an agitator and irrational too.
Kindly quit rubbing salt in the wound.

Seattlepi.com is Hearst's failed newspaper remnant.
The Times must have a few more rational souls as the last time I viewed the P-I site it was a piece of junk awaiting a broom.

Idaho cannot hide anymore
The Internet makes damn near everything transparent, and Idaho has too much to hide. Sooner than later, our idiot state leaders will figure out the business exodus from Idaho has got everything to do with their crummy leadership. We'll only be left with the 'true believers' right from Eric Hoffer and the D&C manual.
But, on the lighter side...Mr. F/O will be happy.
Why would that be true, WB? Dozens in my family tree live here.

As I recall...
The Statesman gave us a preview of an upcoming editorial about BSU's courageous president, but the next morning that editorial had been removed and replaced with the Rammell rant. And now Kevin's soul is tortured over the "social media" having such a low opinion of Idaho. Maybe he should ponder the face of Idaho the Statesman chooses to present to the rest of the nation.
The Kustra and Rammell editorials
Both appeared in print and online Friday. The Kustra editorial was our lead editorial; Rammell was our shorter second editorial.
Kevin Richert
editorial page editor
Not quite satisfied with Kevin's reply
What you say is technically true, Kevin, but why is only the Rammell editorial featured on the Statesman's home page? At least on my computer screen the Rammell rant is the only thing that appears under the editorial heading, so I am assuming this is what other online readers are seeing also. Shouldn't your "lead editorial" have that prominent placement? How many online readers use the opinion/editorial links at the top of the page to see what else you may have opined about? A partial clue might lie in the number of comments each editorial generated (7 vs. 19) though it does not appear either editorial inspired a strong reader reaction.
You have elsewhere commented on the reaction to Rammell in the "social media," not an audience likely to be perusing the print edition of the Statesman where the two editorials appeared together. Therefore, I will stand by my earlier comment about the face of Idaho as presented by the Statesman.
Who the hell will actually read the PRINT VERSION?
Are you braindead? How do you suppose this website stays here?
At this point in time I'm unconvinced the two can fly alone.

Imagine: What if Rammell's gaff had targetted Bush or Cheney?
We cannot, must not tolerate these sorts of "jokes!" Sadly, they betray a diseased undercurrent in this state that must be cured. Thankfully, our Constitution's protection of free speech has permitted him to expose his own preposterous weaknesses. His regret is regrettably tepid. He should be shunned now and foreverafter.
Imagine if we did that to Senator Edward M. Kennedy in 1969.
Some of you are as bad as Glenn Beck's irrational sobbings.
I certainly hope he finds himself again.

Idaho deserves to bashed!
Idaho deserves to bashed! Idahoans must demand better from the people in our communities.
Obviously you have substituted arrogance for intelligence and stupidity for common sense.
What are you afraid of having a consensus or losing readers, maybe you just don't take it seriously enough as you always treat intolerance and rascism as some kind of, oh boys wil be boys, it's just bad humor, right, until some get's killed.
Look around Richert, Idaho is not different than deep south, you don't talk about but it here and it is ingrained in communities and passed down thru families and faith. Zeb Bell's daily hate radio from Eastern Idaho, check in with the social conservatives of Idaho who the hide there racism and intolerance in faith so they can justify it under god.
Idaho's has a long way to and deserves to bashed by our fellow Americans until we put a stop to it!
You first.

Do a poll
I wonder what the results of a poll such as this would be;
Does Rex Rammell's comment about "Obama Tags" make it;
A) More likely you would vote for him
B) Less likely you would vote for him
C) No different in your vote
Wasn't there a poll about the comment's impact yesterday?

In the poll box on IS.COM HOME PAGE...I know you post THERE?

duh me, Thanks FO
So, the 24% jumps to 33% on this poll.
Let me get this straight, 1/4 to 1/3 of the folks ( I know, I know ) think this was just a harmless joke. Well, yes, jokes can't do any real physical harm per se, we all know that, so I guess in that literal regard they are correct, but jokes set a tone, color an environment. There is far too much violent rhetoric being bantered about, and the Secret Service reports the amount of stated death threats to Obama is alarming (much greater than was noted during the latest Bush). Sooner or later someone is going to try to kill Obama and they may succeed, and the folks who joke about it, or say Obama wants to destroy America, or that he is a baby killer, or that he is like Hitler, or that he hates white people, will have blood on their hands, and will once again drag this country down to a level I have sadly seen before.

Sounds like the ravings of a partisan Republican or an echo of Al Hage(sp)
Registered Democrat since day one, vote as I please.
No, it's a spoof of a certain early classic sci-fi show.

the statesman
i really think the statesman had it wrong..the BSU president making a very impassioned remark about something other than BSU football was refreshing and heartfelt..good for him..but it was news for sure..and this mormon jerk from tetonia was not really news but more of the same..
Bob Kustras impassioned plea for help for uninsured
While Bob got it right, the powers that be in this State are unlikely to do anything about it, we voted for change last election, but failed locally with the continuation of the same old faces in the legsligature, and an emphisis on old, without a new thought.

indict Rammel
Instead of trying to run for Governor, a post which he is spectuarely unsuited, Rex should be looking at the world through bars.
Like the new format thanks,

The new system is much better than the old one.
But it still has problems, wound up with a double post without trying very hard
Replace or adjust your mouse speed in IE, your browser if other.
Your mouse is ultimately what controls your I/O quality and can actually cause SERVER ERRORS if it misfires.
I just put a good one on another computer here and this site goes very fast and works better with it.
In the My Computer > Windows Contol Panel find Mouse. There are three tabs allow you to:
* Swap the two main buttons for left and right handed use
* Adjust click speed
* Change pointer characteristics (to see it better with visual problems, etc...also changeable in IE for accessablility help)
* Find trouble with the hardware or driver(s) and correct it.
Cleaning/repairing/replacing your mouse frim time to time is always a good idea if you have similar problems.
Clearing your temporary files (cookies, "cache", temp files) is another one, as is having the size of your "page file" (virtual memory) set properly to keep your memory running more smoothly so as not to 'clog up' and make your computer run well.
If you aren't using an anti-virus program and spyware protection and using it PROPERLY, that's your fault, they can be had for FREE.
If you have an older Celeron with a tiny 128MB L2 cache in it, please find a real Pentium 4 that works on your board? Celerons had 1/2 the cache size on average at least at that time and my former AMD K6's (Socket 7) often had more...
