Another Oregon Ducks player has fired a shot at Boise State — this time in Sports Illustrated, according to reports in the Oregon media.
Oregon tailback LeGarrette Blount watched video of last year’s Boise State-Oregon game with a Sports Illustrated reporter. When he saw the late hits the Broncos took on quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and tight end Ed Dickson, Blount said: “We owe that team a (butt)-whuppin’.”
Blount didn’t dispute the quote.
“It was just kind of heat of the moment,” Blount told The Register-Guard of Eugene. “That’s what I said. I didn’t mean it to come out like that, but those emotions come out when you see that stuff.”
Oregon coach Chip Kelly — who already has had Masoli say the Ducks will “take it to them” and Dickson say Boise State “doesn’t rub right with me” — downplayed the remarks.
“Someone asked them a question, ‘What do you think about Boise?’ ” Kelly told The Register-Guard. “Instead of saying, ‘I don’t think about it,’ they answered the question. The perception is, they’re all fired up about it. But as a staff and as players, we haven’t had a conversation about Boise State once.”
Register-Guard columnist George Schroeder did a nice job today of putting the Broncos' hits in perspective. Here's his column.
