The new dumb political quote of the week: 'Obama tags.' A Thursday roundup.
A Thursday reading roundup:
• Our Rocky Barker has an interesting saga about a group called Citizens for a Clean Idaho. Grass-roots group or a front organization? Read and decide. And, by the way, this story proves why every good reporter should spend some time on Twitter and Facebook.
• From Statesman outdoors reporter Roger Phillips: further evidence that it will be difficult for Idaho hunters to kill 220 wolves. As we suggested in Wednesday's editorial supporting the wolf hunt, the furor over Idaho's wolf hunting season doesn't square with the science.
• A good editorial from The Times-News in Twin Falls. Idaho Transportation Board member Gary Blick should address his purported sexist remarks about former Idaho Transportation Department director Pam Lowe. Blick, you'll recall, is the board member who reportedly said "no little girl" would be able to run the ITD.
Gee, suggesting a gubernatorial appointee should answer to the public — instead of expecting his wife to "protect" him from the media. Where does this editorial board get off?
• And one more good read from The Times-News. (What can I say? Not only am I a Times-New alum, but they've been on a roll.) Foot-in-mouth gubernatorial candidate Rex Rammell yuks it up at a GOP function about buying "Obama tags." Scroll to the bottom of Jared S. Hopkins' article and check it out.
Yeesh. This could be a long gubernatorial election. In my book of stupid political statements, Rammell has Gary Blick's reported remarks beat.

well...
Otter already bought his Rammell tag.
I'd find myself speechless but then I can't post my voice.

Rexless
So, it was only a joke.
Not only is it not funny, it only adds to the irresponsible threatening rhetoric I hear more and more each day. It encourages the lunatic fringe to act out on their paranoid thoughts. We do not solve our political differences with violence in this country. If we do, we are no better than the worst of nations.
Rex Rammell has revealed himself and it is not pretty.
Jared on a roll ...
Jared also had a big story today quoting GOP lawmakers saying that entire state agencies could get the ax in 2010.
But as another TN alum, I'm still scratching my head over how the editors there could think that Rammell's razzing Otter over not uying a wolf tag was bigger news than the "Obama tag" remark. I guess it's OK to bury the lead these days. Not when I was there.
I'm also at a loss to explain how this story hasn't gone national in the past few hours since Boise Weekly unearthed the buried lead. I guess it's just ho-hum these days to hear Republican candidates joke about hunting the President of the United States.
Finally, the big question is this: What did the decent mainstream Republicans (including several state legislators, I hear) in the room do when Rex said this? It's one thing for the tea party's poster child to make jokes and quite another for no one else in the room to express any sort of dismay or outrage or even mild disagreement. I'm not sure whether or not that was the case, but hopefully someone who was there can enlighten us.
Fanselow, Why is IDP so
Fanselow, Why is IDP so silent? Where is the outrage from Roark & Hansen and other Dems? Quiet as a church mouse does not cut it, if you want to grow and win!
Maybe they know how to remain quiet, UNLIKE ALL OF US.

IDP isn't silent at all
i83701, the ID Dems have sent out emails a Press release, Facebook updates, Tweets and done everything they can to say that Rammell is a jerk who uses dangerous language. Other Dems have posted his phone number ( 208-716-2053 ) and encouraged everyone to call him
Just because you cant hear them doesnot mean there not trying. Media have to pick itup for u to hear and that is controlled only byThe Media.
Your space bar needs you. You miss it badly.

Huffington Post is running it now.
Obama Talk
P. Obama said the MA police office acted stupidly.
ALL politiicians say things they should not.
Who cares!? if it makes the national news?
On second thought is should NOT make the national news cause Rammell is L A M E and it's not national news worthy. It just discredits Huffington Post.
Rammell's website down
Rammell's website just got taken offline -- not sure whether intentionally or not.
That sort of "joke"....I hope for his sake his home address isn't online or in the phone book anywhere.
RAMMELs RANT
I thought the high ground was on our side after listening to Democratic leaders and represenatives insulting the opposition and the voters and this jerk proves both sides of the political spectrum are overloaded with little people trying to hold big jobs. If he cant resist the temptation to hold his comments in check now he would surely be a disaster in office. Are these people the best we can do to run the country. We are in deep DooDoo
