Kibble call: New food drives for local pets

Help for the four-legged: Idaho Humane Society, Simply Cats need your donations

The Idaho Humane Society’s Pet Food Pantry program needs (sealed bags) of dry and canned food for dogs and cats. The pantry program provides pet food for families and individuals in need of assistance during trying economic times, and for over 200 companion animals of seniors who receive Meals on Wheels.
Donations also supply food for the Society’s foster animal program, and for other local animal welfare organizations.

You can help by donating food at the Idaho Humane Society, 4775 Dorman St, or at one of 57 pet food collection sites around the valley. Check the website for the complete list of collection sites.

If you’d rather make a cash donation online, you can do that, too.

Here’s a little background: The Humane Society created the Pet Food Pantry when it became apparent that an increasing number Treasure Valley residents were giving up their pets because they could not afford to feed them due to loss of employment or housing.

Other pet owners were going without food themselves, in order to feed their animals. Need more info? Contact Christine Wiersema, Development Director at the Idaho Humane Society, 331-8556.
