Walt Minnick: The Blue Dogs' poster child?
Could be.
A Wall Street Journal writer uses Idaho's 1st District congressman as an illustration for that which ails the conservative wing of the Democratic caucus.
"(Minnick is) a supercharged example of the mess (House Speaker Nancy) Pelosi has created for dozens of conservative and freshman Democrats with her liberal health-care legislation," writes Kimberley A. Strassel.
"Those members were sent home for the long recess, saddled with a bill their constituents oppose. Most can’t defend it and, if forced, will return to vote against — leading to more talk of Democratic division and partisan agendas. This in turn will only make their voters more wary of re-electing Democrats — even ones who show an independent spirit."
Good piece, and worth a read.
The takeaway question: Is Pelosi a millstone for Minnick?

Pelosi is a millstone for America, period.
Nothing more needs said.
Millstone, or MILESTONE?
The first only grinds you a lot.

If anything, the healthcare martini needs shaking AND stirring.

Outside of Marin County Ca. Pelosi is toxic.
As long as Minnick and the dogs, vote against her their good to go. They are all from conservative districts, if they go with the Speaker there toast. At least thats the word at Kelsey's on the east side of Edge City.
Speaking of Blue Dogs...
See what Red State Update thinks of Blue Dog Dems..http://www.redstateupdate.com/profiles/blogs/red-state-update-moderates
Hail the Conquering Heroes
Minnick and the rest of the blue dogs might as well join the republicans if all they intend to do is stymie the Obama change agenda. They may represent conservative districts, but the only reason these dems got in is because of the President's coat tails. If they think they were elected to advance the republican agenda of lower taxes for the wealthy and deregulation for business they are living in the 1980's. People are hurting and they are looking to the government for relief. Big deficits do matter, of course, but how can you save an economy without government intervention? As far as health care, polls have shown that the majority of the people want health care reform. If congress passes a watered down gimme for the insurance industry it will be as the "naked emporer"; perfectly visible for all to see. I don't think the democrats, independents, and republicans who are expecting change from these democratic blue dogs will be impressed. If the blue dogs expect to be re-elected by the conservative republican base they are as misguided as a certain secretary of defense who expected our troops in Iraq to be greeted with flowers and praise from those they conquered.
Tell me why these legislators are exempt
from the government insurance their trying to put us on? Is it because they are our ruling class? You give these congress men too much credit. They are not the creators of great ideas but merely slick salesman in $5000 dollar suits.
Congress is corrupt
They always remove themselves from the consequences of their acts. The chances of their suffering a reduction in their self serving perks and benefits is zero...they get 2-3 times better benefits than the private sector (http://www.ntu.org/main/page.php?PageID=20). They have health care that mere multi-millionaires envy and they are not going to stop any of that because the riff raff that elect them demand it.
Okay, kids, playtime is over. Go back to class, stop daydreaming

Stupid names mean nothing. Really. Just an excuse to lump all.
Nobody will tow your line for long before they start wondering why they are there. Without 535 individual minds you could just roll dice or throw darts. Why bother having a country.
Use this broken computer I got as an executive decision maker. You will lose anyhow.
Assign faces to problems and no more stupid names.

Richert, again carries the
Richert, again carries the water for GOP talking points, the Wall Street journal, a known conservative propaganda player uses its article to vilify the Speaker of the House to perpetuate conservative fear mongering and attempts to label Minnick as a centrist, what a joke. A western independent that bucks party stereotypes, that’s a pant load! LMFAO!!
Minnick has severely failed show himself philosophically in tune with voters at all! Minnick is so out of touch with Democrats & Progressives, it is critical for his political future that he spends his time pandering to rural Idaho conservatives, perpetuating their anti-government rhetoric and conservative fear mongering while avoiding the hard discussions of truth and facts to solve problems that would benefit all Idahoans and our State’s future.
Blue Dog districts across this great nation need Health Care rights more than most; check the facts they represent the majority of rural & poor districts in dire needs of this bill.
In Minnick’s own district 17% of the population is uninsured that’s over 138,000, Idahoans and Republican Simpson’s district has 18% of the population is uninsured thats126,000, Idahoans. How can Minnick’s justify outright opposition to Health care rights when those 138,000 Idahoans in his district are in desperate need? Health care providers in Minnick’s district provided $95 million worth of uncompensated care in 2008, to individuals unable to pay bills. New health care legislation would almost eliminate the costs of uncompensated care and everyone would pay there way.
Minnick’s, vote against health care rights, is voting against the interests of the people of the 1st district, he has chosen to preserve the corporate interests of healthcare & insurance companies over the needs of the people. Minnick has cashed in $132,664 from the Health Sector and Republican Simpson has deposited a nice sum of $383,829 in his accounts.
WSJ tries to link Idaho poor economy with the Speaker of House, Idiot. Please smart guy detail with facts, how the speaker of the House of Representatives continues to hurt the economy in Idaho?
With over 25 years of a republican controlled state government in Idaho, a conservative political ideology and agenda has wrecked havoc on Idaho’s economy. Idaho republicans are making the rules and controlling the money, not the federal government! What Idahoans do know is that conservatives are hypocrites and love to accept federal farm subsides to the tune of $1.9 billion, yet perpetuate anti-government rhetoric for political gain.
Good Luck Taters!
I've never known Richert to be a REPUBLICAN. His Biz, though.

Ah, one of those fellows
You know, the folk who define all truth and facts by where they find it and not by what is said...In logic the argument is called begging the question...ie; the report is untrue because the WSJ is owned by evil right wingers. It assumes a truth not proven, that the paper lies.It also fails on the false cause error...a false cause and effect. Conservatives own the WSJ so the this article must be a lie. Perhaps the biggest and most common error found in folk making such an argument is the genetic flaw...the article is wrong because it is n the WSJ.
So many errors so little time. Minnick's job in Idaho is not to be in tune with Idaho's small far left but in tune with the folk that elected him, mostly conservatives and independents. Those folk, in poll after poll, do not want this health care scheme. Idaho might have a poor economy at the moment but when the current downturn reverses, it will roar back. Pelosi's California will be broke regardless.
Oh, and there is no such a thing as a 'health care right'...find it in the Constitution. What we have is a health care expectation, created by pandering politicians and folk out for free goodies paid for by others.
WSJ Opinion Piece Misleads
The piece from the WSJ repeating Republican talking points -- punitive taxes, government run healthcare, steep cuts to Medicare -- is an opinion piece from a Conservative paper. About the only missing message from the RNC was the suicide counseling mandate.
There are three bills still in play with a range of funding, public options, co-ops, etc to all be decided this fall.
It is starting to look like Congress will deliver a bill which does not control health care costs but will at least increase coverage, ban "pre-existing conditions", and rescissions of current coverage for expensive procedures. Pre-existing conditions, rescissions of current policies, and raising premiums 20% over five years are ways insurance companies increase profits by cutting expenses. Once premiums are too high, more people drop insurance, allowing the companies to insure mostly healthy people.
It will be a better system for those who can afford to pay the inevetiable higher premiums at three times the rate of inflation so that our healthcare industry can provide excessive profits to hospitals, insurance and pharmaceutical companies, as well as some MDs, especially specialists.
Disease and suffering of the middle and lower classes as the basis for a vast economic benefit for a few is a national value? All of those industries are driven by Wall Street and their investors expectations for increased profits every quarter. Increase profits = higher costs to the public, either by increasing pricing, co-pays, deductibles or by reducing benefits.
Our suffering and disease builds vast economic empires based on immoral and unjustified profits -- Is this the American way?
It's Rupert Murdoch's paper but what happened to YOU?
Chilli, that sorta took a right turn at Fairview.

If the people are going to continue to let the two parties
through campaigh finance divide the people, we may as well change the Consititution & Declaration to state:
We the un-American corporations & agri corruption & divided state of America because the people only take responsibilty for all our mis-representatives failure by allowing this joke to continue by having We the People on the documents.
The American Dream: An American social ideal
Good job repbulicans, you made the point that Obama being a socialist is the man we've been waiting for to fullfill the American dream. Health care as Obama was all about must be what you all wanted, all you argue against if what you really want?
Come on back republcians, tell US what you really want. The American dream, socialism, or NOT. Can't have it both ways. If it's the American dream you want, you support socialism because that is the American social ideal the dream is based on as defined in the dictionary. Obama is your man so why are you calling him a socialist? It's confusing but if you look at the way government runs, has US trillions in debt, it makes sense.
I would think being trillions in debt due to our mis-representatives would suggest we have been social, handing out billions to the crooks who broke US seems social to me, they get billions after making trillions while most people screaming socialism are broke & paying for it all? Is it like a reverse morgage, reverse representation?
What socialism is? Does it have two separte meanings? Republican & then there's Webster's, just lie the math republicans use? WY2K doubled the national debt & republcians who voted for him & supported the mistake in Iraq blame it on clinton, the guy before who had a surplus, & the guy after, Obama, who has to bail US out due to WY2K doubling the naional debt?
We are all paying as individuals so the few, like otter, WY2K bush, & the rest of mis-representatives can make bank. It used to be called corporate welfare, I think we can bump it up a notch to corporate solcialism, I don't think welfare is a broad definition as socialism, & campaign finance has outgrown welfare, need nore $. If we never say or do anything I guess we'r telling them it's OK, we'll pay later. Freedom don't come cheap, gotta have a crooked as a dog's hind leg Poiltician on your team or you just ain't in the game. crooked politicians has to have campaign finance & lobbyists being retired poltiicans complete the circle, we've come full cirle America. Good job America, we're right back to where we were before the revolution.
Who the hell reads WSJ/You stick it to them, GG!
