Check out Art Bike on First Thursday

Boise Bicycle Project, the nonprofit group that rehabs donated bikes for people in need in the community, including kids, refugees and homeless men and women, hosts a fundraiser for lovers of bikes and art.

Art Bike, held First Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Modern Hotel, will feature 20 bikes painted by local artists, up for auction.

Proceeds will go towards materials for the BBP’s new shop on Lusk Street in Boise. The auction art fest will have food, drinks, music, bike valet parking and more.

For more info, call organizer Sarah Lunstrum, events coordinator for the BBP, 440-8134. Also, volunteers are still needed to help out with the event.

And after Art Bike:

Volunteer opportunities still abound at BBP. Take a look...

Artists: BBP is looking for a few local artists to help paint and decorate the inside of our beautiful shop with some sweet bicycle art.

Volunteer Coordinators: BBP is looking for extra people to help manage volunteer and open shop times. This position will involve helping with registration, sign in and check out procedures, accepting donations, answering general questions about BBP, general clean up, and organization. It's really laid back, fun, and extremely helpful.

Volunteer Mechanics: BBP needs extra mechanics to assist others during volunteer and open shop times. Basic to Advanced bicycle maintenance experience is recommended for this volunteer position. And would involve answering a variety of bicycle repair questions, problem diagnosis, and assisting in bicycle repair. This is really a teaching and continuation of learning position. You would not be expected to have the answer to every question; "I don't know, lets look in the book" is more than acceptable.

Lady Mechanics: BBP is looking for more ladies who know their way around a tool kit for Lady's Wrench Night in August, and for all other nights for that matter.

Tour De Fat helpers: BBP is in search of people to help with registration and perform the duties of ride marshal. Registration is pretty simple, just get people to sign waivers. The other help we need is for ride marshals. Ride marshals get to ride the route (in their favorite costume) and the main thing is to just watch out for problems (people drinking, riding unsafely, etc.). Parade is from 10-11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22 at Ann Morrison Park.
