Virginia Tech-Boise State reports all over the map
No one has been able to confirm with on-the-record sources that Boise State and Virginia Tech will play in 2010 at FedEx Field in Washington, D.C.
The Washington Post took a shot getting all the details today and ended up with off-the-record quotes from a Washington Redskins official. The Post’s verdict: “Virginia Tech and Boise State are in talks to play at FedEx Field in 2010 but the arrangement has not been finalized.”
Officials at Boise State and Virginia Tech simply aren’t talking — to the Idaho Statesman or anyone else. ESPN, for example, has not been able to confirm the game.
Another ESPN blogger said the game is likely to be on Oct. 2.
WTVR (CBS 6) in Richmond first reported the game, citing unnamed sources.
My take: This game may very likely be played, but I think it is far from a done deal. If it were, officials at both schools would be returning phone calls and announcing the game, date and payout.
It is possible that the teams are looking for a television contract or that Virginia Tech needs to alter its schedule to accommodate Boise State. In other words, there are lots of details still to be worked out — and it could be a while before the game is official.
