Doggiepawmoosa and you

Doggiepawmoosa! More love for those dogs and cats

Proceeds from this friends-of-the-four-legged fest, 5-10 p.m., Saturday, July 18 at The Blue Moose Café, 79 E. Aigens Rd., in Eagle, will benefit a great group — SNIP, or Spay and Neuter Idaho Pets, Inc.

First, I’ll tell you about the cause. Seven months ago, the nonprofit group started raising money to create a high-volume, low-cost spay and neuter clinic and education center, with the end goal of ending the need for euthanasia of healthy, but unwanted animals.

SNIP has been working with other local rescue groups to raise $120,000 for a building where the clinic, and educational workshops will be housed.

SNIP has raised nearly half the money, but has lots of work to do.

Now, I’ll tell you about the party: you will enjoy entrees served in china dog bowls, along with fresh baked breads and desserts. A professional auctioneer and live band on the roof will liven things up, and all members of your family, along with your pets, will find games and contests to keep them busy all evening.

Need more info, or want to get involved with a good cause? Call Diane Ayres at 336-8709, email snipit@snipidaho.org or visit SNIP’s website.

Save the bus!

CCOA, the Canyon County organization that helps seniors, disabled and financially needy folks, is throwing a fundraiser to keep its senior bus running. It all happens 6-9 p.m., Saturday, July 18 at the Caldwell Senior Center.

Elvie Thomas's band is on for entertainment, chili is on the menu. The cost is $5 for the cause, with an additional charge for food. Help a good cause. For more information or ways to help, call Tosha at CCOA: 459-0063.

The Bus must not bust/SNIP must make a larger cut...

Spaying and neutering do a lot but people have to be made aware that a pet should be like a marriage should also be, a lifetime commitment. Some food banks have experimented with offering pet food to help financially embattled pet owners, with mixed results...

The reasons you get a pet are indeed based on an emotional need. You still have to realize that you are adding the financial responsibilities of at least 1/4 the costs of raising a child. Some breeds and mixes have genetic predispositions to specific types of disease as a result of breeding. I have a friend who has seen this several times (he has no trouble paying to care for his animals) wherein his Doberman developed severe arthritis and had to be put down, his Rhodesian Ridgeback had a nervous disorder (I took care of them to some degree as I have for several people over the years) yet he knew all the aspects of caring for all of them.

Parents get a pet for their children and say it will teach them to be responsible and yet if they cannot afford to feed and treat the pets' medical needs NOT related to reproduction and then have to abandon them in worse times...

People tend to pay even less mind to the choice of a pet than the choice of a car. Pets often live longer than many vehicles and are a lot more alive than a Chevrolet. So you render an animal sterile.

What else have you solved? THINK.
