Sun Valley's gondola construction

It looks like construction is going strong on what is being billed as North America's largest gondola project on Bald Mountain at Sun Valley Resort.

I've ridden the gondola at Silver Mountain at Kellogg and it's one cool way of getting to the top of the mountain. Even if you're not a skier or boarder, a gondola lets you see the mountain surroundings in enclosed comfort.

The Roundhouse Gondola at Sun Valley is planned to be ready for the resort's 74th ski season (2009-2010), and will run from River Run Plaza to the Roundhouse Restaurant. I imagine a lot of non-skiers will probably just ride the gondola up to the restaurant for the food. It's one of my favorite places to stop for lunch.

The Doppelmayr CTEC Detachable-Grip Gondola will carry 1,800 passengers per hour, traveling 2,000 vertical feet in eight minutes.

Fifty-six, eight-passenger cabins will service skiers, snowboarders and foot passengers.

It's really being built. To keep an eye on construction progress link to Sun Valley’s mountain cam page:

www.sunvalley.com/SunValley/info/mtn.cams.aspx and look at the River Run Lodge camera.

By the way, I still wish we could have a gondola from Boise to Bogus.

That's really cool but I'll never get there anyway.

Bogus Gondola

I completely agree. It would need to go along with an expansion of ski area and a significant expansion of summer services to be viable. I think it would be great to be able to get a season pass to the gondola and be able to ride it up in the summer to go hiking and mountain biking up there out of the heat. Of course it would be pretty convenient in the winter also, and a lot safer than that road....

Truth is hard to come by

Maybe they should get a REAL gondola.
