Fawn is a surprise

Mule deer momWe were biking down the Greenbelt early Saturday morning when we spotted a spotted fawn just outside the fence of the MK Nature Center. What a pleasant surprise.

The fawn was alert and didn't stick around a second when it saw us. It disappeared into the brush at the Nature Center.

It was really cool to see a fawn but it proves that it doesn't take much land to provide a sanctuary in the middle of the city for wildlife. The natural vegetation at the center, which is located between Municipal Park and the Boise River behind the Idaho Department of Fish and Game headquarters, hides a lot of wildlife.

We walked through the Nature Center on another day and saw the fawn's mom browsing along the pond. The fawn was hidden somewhere. Here's a photo of the mom.

Anyway, if you haven't walked through the Nature Center in a while, check it out. There always seems to be a new critter popping up somewhere.
